Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People often ask if there is "proof" for astrology. Astrologers are not so much worried about proving astrology, as they are in using it to reveal nuance and detail. In 1929, after writing four previous books, Charles Carter (1887-1968) set his sights on discovering the astrological reasons why accidents happen, and which people are most prone to them. In part he wanted to test if astrological fundamentals were true or not. Carter knew that astrology works, but does it work the way it has long claimed, or, if it does not, can the real rules be discovered by analysis? This book is divided into two broad sections. In the first, Carter compiles raw sign and house placements of Sun, Moon and planets, along with the angular separation of pairs of planets, to determine which planets, in which signs, in which houses, and which specific angles, produce the most accidents overall. The results are surprising. In the second section, Carter analyzes specific accidents for common traits. Sixteen different classes of accidents are analyzed, among them drowning, gunshots, burns, falls, and railway accidents. While the number of individual cases were limited, Carter was able to determine critical degree areas. New in this edition, a list of local influences derived from Carter's work, and a useful index. This book was first published in 1932.

This book was released on 2015-04-29 with total page 457 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First ever edition of the Latin translation of Ptolemy’s masterwork This is the first edition ever of Moerbeke’s Latin translation of Ptolemy’s celebrated astrological handbook, known under the title Tetrabiblos or Quadripartitum (opus). Ptolemy’s treatise (composed after 141 AD) offers a systematic overview of astrological science and had, together with hisAlmagest, an enormous influence up until the 17th century. In the Latin Middle Ages the work was mostly known through translations from the Arabic. William of Moerbeke’s translation was made directly from the Greek and it is a major scholarly achievement manifesting not only Moerbeke’s genius as a translator, but also as a scientist. The edition is accompanied by extensive Greek-Latin indices, which give evidence of Moerbeke’s astonishing enrichment of the Latin vocabulary, which he needed both to translate the technical scientific vocabulary and to cope with the many new terms Ptolemy created. The introduction examines Moerbeke’s translation method and situates the Latin translation within the tradition of the Greek text. This edition makes possible a better assessment of the great medieval translator and also contributes to a better understanding of the Greek text of Ptolemy’s masterwork.

Book excerpt: Scores of talented and dedicated people serve the forensic science community, performing vitally important work. However, they are often constrained by lack of adequate resources, sound policies, and national support. It is clear that change and advancements, both systematic and scientific, are needed in a number of forensic science disciplines to ensure the reliability of work, establish enforceable standards, and promote best practices with consistent application. Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States: A Path Forward provides a detailed plan for addressing these needs and suggests the creation of a new government entity, the National Institute of Forensic Science, to establish and enforce standards within the forensic science community. The benefits of improving and regulating the forensic science disciplines are clear: assisting law enforcement officials, enhancing homeland security, and reducing the risk of wrongful conviction and exoneration. Strengthening Forensic Science in the United States gives a full account of what is needed to advance the forensic science disciplines, including upgrading of systems and organizational structures, better training, widespread adoption of uniform and enforceable best practices, and mandatory certification and accreditation programs. While this book provides an essential call-to-action for congress and policy makers, it also serves as a vital tool for law enforcement agencies, criminal prosecutors and attorneys, and forensic science educators.

Book excerpt: Medical astrology is a specialized branch of Vedic astrology. It is an extraordinary predictive and counseling tool. A horoscope indicates good, bad or indifferent traits and physical, emotional or spiritual characteristics of the native as per the Karmic flow. A chart is only the representation of one’s Karmic implications in one’s life through planetary influences. The medical astrology helps in understanding well in advance where the human chain is the weakest in the physical body and why. An astute astrologer will be able to diagnose disease and the diseased body part merely by analysis of the horoscope. He should be able to tell the susceptibility or the resistance which a native has for a particular disease. He may be able to tell the period of onset/ recovery from the disease and can also suggest the remedial measures to reduce its severity without any side effect. Once this is known, it will be easier for medicos to quickly arrive at the cause and place of diseased body part and the treatment to which the patient will respond. The diseases are generally indicated by the malefic influences of planets. Houses, signs and Nakshtras wherein the planets are placed indicate tendencies, susceptibility, resistance and potential of various ailments in the body. When these potential will manifest depends upon the dasha periods and transit of planets. The numbers of diseases which a native may have to encounter are numerous. However this book touches upon 112 diseases with the help of 102 illustrative charts. The last (16th) chapter of this book is devoted to common astrological remedies with a new Karmic and practical point of view to propitiate evil planets causing ailments.

Book excerpt: This volume, a directory of astrological correspondences, is the result of a research project that drew together the thoughts of many others into a reference book, assuming the role of a dictionary to astrologers, but vastly more complete. It is the only place where all sign, planetary and house rulerships have been brought together and put in a good workable order. It is organized in such a way that one can use the book for quick and easy reference, and it eliminates the need to search through various other volumes. In four parts: an alphabetical listing, a listing by planets, a listing by signs, a listing by houses. Plus an Appendix with special listings: principal bones of the body, principal veins of the body, chart of an organization, flavors and handwriting forms. Enthusiastically endorsed and used by professionals and students alike, no reference library is complete without this best-selling volume.
