Download or read book "Se mi salvo la vita è un caso" written by Federico Adamoli and published by Federico Adamoli. This book was released on 2014-01-01 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Download or read book Un giro di Jack written by Rita Murgia and published by AmicoLibro. This book was released on 2021-03-26 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Calvino's Combinational Creativity by : Elizabeth Scheiber
Download or read book Calvino's Combinational Creativity written by Elizabeth Scheiber and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-02-08 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Calvino’s Combinational Creativity examines the various ways combinatory processes influence the work of the Italian author Italo Calvino. Comprising chapters by six literary scholars, the volume asserts that the Ligurian writer’s creativity often stems from his contemplation of literature even as it investigates the intersection of his work with poets, writers, and literary movements. Each chapter explores a different aspect of Calvino’s creativity. Natalie Berkman examines Calvino as a reader of Ariosto and provides an analysis of mathematical combinations inspired by Vladmir Propp in Il castello dei destini incrociati. Discussing the poetic and scientific influence of the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar on Calvino, Sara Ceroni then presents Palomar as a modernist work of epiphanies. This is followed by two chapters investigating different influences on Cosmicomics: Elio Baldi demonstrates how Calvino’s collection of stories appropriates various conventions of the science fiction genre, while Elizabeth Scheiber provides a close reading of two tales to show how Calvino uses science as a metaphor to comment on the poetics of Italian authors Gadda, D’Annunzio, Ungaretti, and Montale. Cecilia Benaglia then proposes Calvino as a reader of Gadda, who served not only as an aesthetic influence, but also as an epistemological one. Finally, juxtaposing Calvino with his contemporary, Umberto Eco, Sebastiano Bazzichetto examines the two authors’ use of figures of speech as ways of constructing labyrinths. Calvino’s Combinational Creativity takes Calvino studies in new directions as it rethinks how the author’s work can be classified, and delves into the sources of his inspiration.
Book Synopsis imagining the unimaginable by : Ladina Bezzola Lambert
Download or read book imagining the unimaginable written by Ladina Bezzola Lambert and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2021-09-20 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How is it possible to imagine what is unknown and therefore unimaginable? How can the unimaginable be represented? On what materials do such representations rely? These questions lie at the heart of this book. Copernican theory redefined the role and importance of the imagination even as it implied the moment of its crisis. Based on this claim, Ladina Bezzola Lambert analyzes seventeenth-century astronomical texts – particularly descriptions of the moon and treatises written in support of the theory of the plurality of worlds – to show how early modern astronomers questioned the role of the imagination as a tool to visualize the unknown, but also how, pressed by the need to support their theories with convincing descriptions of other potential worlds, they sought to overcome the limitations of the imagination with a sophisticated rhetoric and techniques more commonly associated with poetic writing. The limitations of the imagination are at once a problem that all of the texts discussed struggle with and their recurrent theme. In the first and last chapter, the focus shifts to a more explicitly literary context: Ariosto’s Orlando furioso and the work of Italo Calvino. The change of focus from science to literature and from the narratives of the past to contemporary ones serves to emphasize that the issues relating to the imagination, its limitations and creative means, are basically the same both in science and literature and that they are still relevant today.
Book Synopsis Ennio Flaiano and His Italy by : Marisa S. Trubiano
Download or read book Ennio Flaiano and His Italy written by Marisa S. Trubiano and published by Fairleigh Dickinson Univ Press. This book was released on 2010 with total page 227 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disenthralling Ourselves portrays contemporary Israel in a process of transition. Jewish-Israeli and Palestinian-Israeli communities share a nation-state divided by the separate truths of its conflicting fundamental narratives. This book considers ways of converting those separate and antagonistic narratives from fuel for conflict to seeds of change. Its purpose is to undo the convenient coherence of collective memory and master narratives through fostering a capacious moral imagination able to apprehend diverse, even contentious, stories and truths. Contemporary Israel functions as a case study in an in-depth and interdisciplinary exploration of conflict resolution, viewing Jewish-Israeli and Palestinian-Israeli docpostwar Italian and European cinema it is much less known--especially outside of Italy--that such success has much to do with the writings of his fifteen-year collaborator and scriptwriter, Ennio Flaiano (1910-72), journalist, novelist, dramatist, and theater and film critic. This book identifies the ways in which Flaiano's distinctive travel diary--satirically registering the transformative journey from provincial Italian to global citizen--captured and shaped the changing tastes of an entire generation of Italians on the film set, in the newspaper office, and on the street. The book highlights Flaiano's uneven yet steadily developing anticolonialist stance, his emerging postmodern autobiography, and his interrogation of notions of regional, national and cultural superiority. Marisa S. Trubiano is Assistant Professor of Italian at Montclair State University.

Livingstone and published by Peeters Publishers. This book was released on 1989 with total page 428 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Papers presented at the Tenth International Conference on Patristic Studies held in Oxford 1987 (see also Studia Patristica 20, 21, 22 and 23). The successive sets of Studia Patristica contain papers delivered at the International Conferences on Patristic Studies, which meet for a week once every four years in Oxford; they are held under the aegis of the Theology Faculty of the University. Members of these conferences come from all over the world and most offer papers. These range over the whole field, both East and West, from the second century to a section on the Nachleben of the Fathers. The majority are short papers dealing with some small and manageable point; they raise and sometimes resolve questions about the authenticity of documents, dates of events, and such like, and some unveil new texts. The smaller number of longer papers put such matters into context and indicate wider trends. The whole reflects the state of Patristic scholarship and demonstrates the vigour and popularity of the subject.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea of dedicating a Festschrift to honor Professor Frédéric Manns on the happy occasion of his 70th birthday came to mind in the autumn of 2011 and work on this project had been continuing ever since. Felicitously achieving this goal, the Faculty of Biblical Sciences and Archaeology (Studium Biblicum Franciscanum) and the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land present this volume to Father Manns with gratitude for his profound scholarship and a lifetime service in the Holy Land. Perusing through Father Manns’ writings, it is easy to see a prominent and distinctive place devoted to the Gospel of John. It seemed therefore suitable to focus on this subject in the Festschrift honoring him: the title, Rediscovering John, relates to Manns’ significant contribution towards the better understanding of the Fourth Gospel. The volume comprises 21 studies authored by renowned scholars from various parts of the world, from different institutions and denominations. While the first half of the studies examines general issues (history of interpretation, textual transmission, intertextuality, theological themes, archaeology), the second half treats literary, narrative and exegetical approaches to particular texts of the Fourth Gospel. We augur that this rich collection will help to stimulate further discussion and reflection on the Gospel of John, as well as constitute an incentive to an already distinguished scholar to continue writing challenging and thought-provoking essays and books. Book Synopsis Tracing the Path of Tolerance by : Paolo Scotton
Download or read book Tracing the Path of Tolerance written by Paolo Scotton and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2016-12-14 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the globalized, postmodern world, the production of encounters and crashes between dissimilar cultures, ways of life, and systems of values has drastically increased in number. More and more frequently, they originate harsh conflicts, exhibiting the existence of alternative and apparently incompatible ways of living and thinking – culturally, religiously, economically and politically speaking. In this context, words as tolerance and intolerance have been put at the heart of the political debate. However, what is the real meaning of these political concepts? Why did they originate and how did the developed over time? Do they still represent a valid resource for comprehending our current societies and dealing with them? Through the different voices of several scholars in the humanities, this book traces the history of tolerance since the wars of religion to the contemporary age, combining the historical reconstruction with a theoretical and critical analysis of the idea and practice of tolerance in different epochs and places. The obstacle course depicted here reveals the constitutive fragility of this concept that, however, cannot be totally dismissed from our political vocabulary.
