Robert Beckett presents the case for fanning the flames. Step by step, he discusses what’s needed for the revitalization of the small church. Fanning the Revitalization Flame follows the journey of a small, suburban church that had long past lived its glory days. Beckett points out the challenges and rewards of being obedient to God regardless of the consequence and shows the benefit of following God in each small step. Each chapter demonstrates a proven path of success that God honors for revitalization. The church leader will learn that prayer, vision, mission, and implementation are the ingredients for a successful revitalization effort. It’s God’s desire to see every church succeed and to prosper for his kingdom. Everyone will benefit from the truths shared in this resource that will help bring health and confidence. When the flame of revitalization is fanned and burning hot in a congregation, God will receive the glory and will transform lives both inside and outside the church.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most common question that most pastors and church leaders ask themselves is "Where do I start in revitalizing my church?" Revitalizing a church can seem like a daunting task, but there are some key steps that pastors and church leaders can take to begin the process of transforming their church into an active and vibrant center of the Christian community. The first step that pastors should take is to prayerfully assess the current state of the church. This will involve reflecting on the church's current successes and challenges to better understand where changes need to be made. That understanding can come only from God himself. God has provided us with an example of how revitalization and revival can take place in a church. This book will enlighten and inform on the way that God intends for his church to be vibrant and alive again in the community of believers and surrounding neighbors. Using Scripture as the pattern and guide, readers will gain confidence and courage to move their church forward in revitalization.

Book excerpt: Heart-fire is the invigorating feeling that ignites inside you when you encounter the reality—the reality of the living God, and the reality of who you are meant to be. But fire is more than a feeling—much more! When the fire inside God touches something inside you, the effect is spontaneous combustion. God actually made your heart to be a flame-holder of his presence. The flow of fire into your heart is just as important as the flow of blood into your heart. You can’t live without blood, and in reality, you can’t live without fire—not really live! Here’s the good news—it is not your job to set your heart on fire. Fire is what God does, not what you do. Hearts on Fire is altering the course of history. God wants to set your heart on fire and to make you a history-shaper. No one else can take your place. You have a unique mission to fulfill. May God spark revival fire in your heart today. Hearts on Fire is not a book about revival, it’s a book of revival.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revival is about the Reviver. Nothing More and Nothing Less The evidence of revival in Africa through IRIS Global is clear to see: tens of thousands of churches have been planted and hundreds of thousands of lives have been surrendered to Christ. But what have been the keys to seeing such a revival sustained over so many years? Rather than offering a transferable model - because everyone's context is different - Rolland Baker shares the five core principles that have become the bedrock of IRIS Global's ministry. They reveal how revival can be sustained by supernatural love. These five principles fuel a cooperation with the Holy Spirit that leads to a Kingdom outpouring. Rolland writes, "We don't impose these values on our ministry - the Spirit of God has imposed them on us. We simply recognize and adopt them." Readers will grasp both a deep longing for authentic relationship with the Lord and see how His love and power might be released in their own lives and ministry. "The core values for Iris ministries are not just ideals and theories. They are the way of life for Rolland, Heidi and their staff. The stories that Rolland shares are very real--sacrificial, miraculous, hard, hopeful, and joyous. I don't know any two people who have faced more devastating, and even life threatening circumstances than these two. Neither do I know any who have experienced more unexplainable miracles. I've watched as time and time again, in impossible situations, they have abandoned themselves in full surrender to Love, held out empty hands, and God has showed up in power to fill them to overflowing. Rolland beautifully highlights that the key to sustained revival is a revived heart and that only happens in a love relationship with Jesus. That is the key to the life they live. Do you want revival? Love Jesus with all your heart. Do you want to see your family, your church, your city transformed. Love Jesus with all your heart. Do you want to experience more of the supernatural? Love Jesus with all your heart. Take the time to prayerfully read this book, and then watch your heart burn with a greater love for Jesus." -Bill Johnson, Bethel Church, Redding About the author Rolland Baker is a third generation missionary who has devoted his life to serving the poor and proclaiming the name of Jesus for over thirty years. Rolland and Heidi Baker lead Iris Global, a missions organization that exists to participate in bringing the Kingdom of God to earth in all its aspects, but most especially through their calling to serve the very poor in Mozambique. Rolland's passion is to share a message of love and childlike faith.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Some of the most astounding revivals came through Charles Finney. It is wisdom to learn about revival from a person who had great success in conducting revivals. And history shows that Charles Finney definitely had great and long lasting success in carrying out revivals. If you want to have great revivals, it would be wise to diligently study Finney in this regard. The Christian Preservation Society summarizes this amazing work of God as follows: --- Finney Biography Excerpt by Christian Preservation Society --- "Christian people, are you figuring round and round to get a little property, yet neglecting souls? Beware lest you ruin souls that can never live again!" The greatest outpouring of Charles's life came in Rochester, New York, starting in September 1830. Lyman Beecher, one of Finney's harshest critics in his early years, would eventually call the revival in Rochester "the greatest work of God, and the greatest revival of religion, that the world has ever seen, in so short a time. One hundred thousand ... were reported as having connected themselves with churches." [Charles Finney, Memoirs of Charles Finney, New York: A. S. Barnes and Company, 1876]. It was recorded that as many as eighty-five percent of those converted remained Christians years later. It was a revival that touched all social classes - from civic and business leaders to schoolteachers, physicians, shopkeepers, farmers, and migrant workers. Bars closed for lack of patrons. Crime rates dropped dramatically and stayed low for years, even as the population grew. At one point, the teenagers in the local high school were so distraught about the condition of their souls that they paid no attention to their lessons, so the director invited Finney to come and speak. Nearly the entire student body was saved, including the director, who had originally thought it was a ploy by the students to get out of their work. Forty of the students went on to become ministers. One of these later wrote: The whole community was stirred. Religion was the topic of conversation, in the house, in the shop, in the office and on the street. The only theater in the city was converted into a livery stable; the only circus into a soap and candle factory. Grog shops were closed; the Sabbath was honored; the sanctuaries were thronged with happy worshippers; a new impulse was given to every philanthropic enterprise; the fountains of benevolence where opened, and men lived to good. [V. Raymond Edman, Finney Lives On, Minneapolis, MN: Bethany House Publishers, 1971] The Rochester revival would prove to be the height of the Second Great Awakening and a spark to light the fuse of a national revival that ran like wildfire throughout the United States in 1831. A host of evangelists, including Beecher himself, took up the torch from Rochester, and the rolls of membership swelled in churches everywhere - Presbyterian, Methodist, Baptist, Episcopalian, Congregational, and others alike. --- End Of Finney Biography Excerpt ---

Ross sets modern questions about ordained ministry in the Church within a much wider context, encouraging us to reflect anew on the relationship between administrative power and spiritual authority within the Church, and to redefine the priesthood. She minces no words in her critique of the contemporary Church, and goes on to propose changes so sweeping and fundamental that we sense what a truly Christian Church would be.
