Book excerpt: Captain Richard (Robert) Bell, Sr. and Lady Mary Margaret (Sarah) Chester of England and Virginia and North Carolina, Volume 2 of 2, includes Sources, Index, and Relations, 2021 Edition. This book provides a lineage of Richard (Robert?) Bell (b. 1587, England) and his wife, Mary Margaret (Sarah?) Chester, (b. 1590, England) down through history to more modern-day descendants who were born as recently as the 1900s and living predominately in Isle of Wight, James City, Princess Anne, Surry Counties, Virginia; Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Durham, Edgecombe, Guilford, Johnson, Lee, Orange, Pamlico, Pitt, Wake Counties, North Carolina; Mobile County, Alabama; Kent County, Rhode Island; Todd County, Kentucky; District of Columbia; Baltimore, Maryland; and Dallas County, Texas. If you are a serious or hobby genealogist, and researching this surname's lineage, this book could provide you some lineage data and vital statistics information you have been seeking to link your family. Use the information in this book to research and find the primary documents that showcase your ancestor's place in history. Included in this lineage's volume two is an index of names and resources citations for primary, secondary, or tertiary sources for confirmation of research data. Many of the citations are from county books, personal family stories, family bibles, birth and death certificates, US census data, and then comparatively researched against federal, state, or local certifications, as well as online via FindAGrave, Ancestry, and BillionGraves - to name a few. YOU WILL WANT TO BUY MORE THAN ONE COPY OF THIS BOOK! Why? You will want one copy to create a scrapbook collection of your personal copies of primary ancestry data (birth and death certificates, copies of marriage registries, photos) in a three-ring binder or scrapbook. Adding more documentation for an ancestor and building a picture of your family makes your research more impactful. You will want a second copy as a 'write in the margins' reference tool you take on your research journeys to libraries, book archives, book stores, and collections (e.g., history museums). One seldom is able to carry a computer or have fingertip databases available in these research trips, so using the book to compare notes can help you when you return home to record your findings. You will want multiple copies to gift to your family members. ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Dawn D. Boyer, Ph.D.'s journey into the practice of genealogy studies started in her teens when she sat at her paternal grandfather's knee to learn about family members and ancestors as part of a school project. She researched genealogy data for over four decades and compiled family histories and lineages for more than 300 unique surnames in her database. The result of the author's years of research was a database with over 18,540 reference citations for >213,300 names, including her and her husband's family history, her previous employer's lineage, many families from the Monroe County, TN, Dauphin County, PA, and Carteret County, NC geographic area, as well as a robust lineage of Sir John Rolfe, Pocahontas, and their son, Thomas Rolfe with >9,000 documented descendants in the author's database. Book excerpt: "1Richard and Sarah (Darby) Henley (ca.1604-1658) settled in York County, Virginia, where they lived and reared their family. At Richard's death (1600-1658), he left his farm to his son, 2Richard Henry Henley (1625-1696) who sold the farm soon after his father's death and moved his family to Calvert County, Maryland. 3Darby Henley Sr. (1650-1726), son of 2Richard Henry Henley and Ann Elliott was known to be a barrister. 3Darby was married to Mrs. Anne (Armstrong) Evans (1669-1726), they resided on what is now known as Broomes Island in St. Leonard Creek Hundred, Christ Church Parish, Maryland. They reared their six children there. 4Ann (1697-1747), 5Darby Jr. (1701-1789), Edmond (1703-1823), Priscilla (1703-), John (1706-1770) and Mary (1711-1831). The son 5Darby Henley, Jr. inherited the family home with 30 acres of land, it is most likely his widowed mother lived with him. He first married Mary Thatcher (1705-1727) and they had three children: 6James Dunbar (1725-1816); his twin sister Anne (1725-ca.1800), and Mary (1727-ca.1800). After Mary's death, 5Darby Jr. was married to Mary M. Elliot (1715-1741), and they had five children together: 10Darby III (1733-1821), 42Edmond (1734-1793), 43Elizabeth (1737-1808), 44John (1739-1802) and 269William (1741-1802). The youngest son, 269William Henley, was the senior ancestor who wanted to bring his family to Alabama, where fertile land was available, but he died in North Carolina in March 1802. Three of his sons 11Darby Henley IV, William and Edmond Henley moved to Alabama and settled near Sparta, Alabama. 11Darby and William later moved back to North Carolina and Tennessee. Edmond moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama where he remained until his death in February 1833. 16Hezekiah Henley and 17Jeremiah Monroe Henley Sr. sons of 10Darby Henley III moved to Pearl River, Hancock County, Mississippi and reared their family there. 17Jeremiah Monroe Henley Sr. is the founding father of Henleyfield, Pearl River County (formerly Hancock County), Mississippi. A large segment of the Henley Family resides in and around Pearl River County, Mississippi. 44John Edmond Henley (1739-1802) son of 5Darby Henley, Jr. and Mary M. Elliot married Margaret "Mary" Chamberlain (1744-1785) and they had nine children together: John (1762-1824), Elijah (1762-1819), Edmond (1770-1833), 57William (1772-1832), Phillip (1773-1829), 60James (1775-1854), 61Darby (1777-1849), 68Micajah (1782-1858) and 266Sukey (1785-1855). Margaret or Mary as she was known died in Hillsborough, North Carolina in 1785. After her death John and dependent children moved to Washington, Wilkes County, Georgia. While in Washington, Georgia John married Catherine (last name unknown) and they had one child: Abner. 68Micajah Henley (1782-1858) married Elizabeth W Lee (1804-1855) on February 29, 1820, in Lincoln County, Georgia. They had eleven children together: Margaret (1824-), John (1825-), Susan (1827-1839), 69James C. They had two children: 70Anna (1852-1910) and 77William James "Jim" (1862-1945). 77"Jim" Henley first married Elizabeth Bryant Sheffield (1865-1911) and they had eleven children. The Family Lineage of John Bell, Sr. from England to Carteret County, NC provides a lineage of John Bell, who was born about 1635 in England, down through history to more modern-day descendants who were born as recently as the 2000's and living predominately in the Carteret County, NC area. This book provides over ten (10) generations of direct descendants and their spouses. If you are a serious or hobby genealogist, and researching the Bell lineage, this book could provide you some lineage data and vital statistics information you have been seeking to link your family or surname to this line of Bells. Included in this lineage's fourth volume are source notes from which the data was collected and an index of names. The family lineage published here are compilations of years of transcriptions from multiple resources, personal family interviews, ancestor's compilations, county history books, online and Internet genealogy groups, and other library database or book resources. The author spent over 20 years compiling the information in this publication for this specific family surname, as well as hundreds of other surnames that interlinked and intertwined to the author's own family and ancestry surnames. Do enjoy the fruits of the research to expand the reader's knowledge of this family surname. As noted on the copyright page, any errors may result from human transcription mistakes, original data having errors or omissions, or even some 'software burps' or data entry errors (e.g., a husband may have been entered as a spouse twice, thus shows up as a duplicate). The author suggests that genealogy researchers take the information in this book and use it 'with a grain of salt' baseline to further research on their own to confirm all the data in this publication against their own. Written by prominent archaeologists with research experience in their respective topic areas, the chapters consider important issues of Virginia history and consider how the discipline of historic archaeology has addressed them and needs to address them . Changes in research strategy over time are discussed , and recommendations are made concerning the need to recognize the diverse and often differing roles and impacts that characterized the different regions of Virginia over the course of its historic past. Significant issues in Virginia history needing greater study are identified.
