Book excerpt: In an age where history is a global battleground and fake news proliferates, culture wars are being waged across India over its future – majoritarian or inclusive, neoliberal or socialist, religious or secular? Fake Gods and False History takes us to the BDD Chawls, a central Mumbai neighbourhood of tenement blocks (chawls) on the brink of a controversial redevelopment. It reveals how contested narratives of Indian history play out in the daily life of this divided neighbourhood and how the legacies of certain godlike but very human historical figures, such as Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar and Chhatrapati Shivaji, are invoked by different communities. Jonathan Galton draws on research conducted among the formerly untouchable Dalit Buddhist community, who are staunchly opposed to the redevelopment plans and deeply critical of the religious nationalism they perceive in their Hindu neighbours. We also meet young male migrants living in village-linked dormitory rooms called Gramastha Mandals, trapped in a liminal space between urban and rural. Throughout the book, which is woven through with candid reflections on methodology and research ethics, readers are challenged into drawing connections with their own experiences of history impinging on their lives. A story that might initially seem parochial will thus resonate with a diverse global audience.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This incredible exploration of the murky world of pseudo-history reveals the mix of proven facts, informed speculation, and pure fiction behind lost continents, ancient super-civilizations, and conspiratorial cover-ups—as well as the revisionist historical foundations of religions such as the Nation of Islam and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Drawing on the best scholarship available, Ronald H. Fritze shows that in spite of strong, mainstream historical evidence to the contrary, many of these ideas have proved durable and gained widespread acceptance. As the examples in Invented Knowledge reveal, pseudo-historians capitalize on and exploit anomalies in evidence to support their claims, rather than examining the preponderance of research as a whole.

Book excerpt: Questions about the reliability of the New Testament are commonly raised today both by biblical scholars and popular media. Drawing on decades of research, Craig Blomberg addresses all of the major objections to the historicity of the New Testament in one comprehensive volume. Topics addressed include the formation of the Gospels, the transmission of the text, the formation of the canon, alleged contradictions, the relationship between Jesus and Paul, supposed Pauline forgeries, other gospels, miracles, and many more. Historical corroborations of details from all parts of the New Testament are also presented throughout. The Historical Reliability of the New Testament marshals the latest scholarship in responding to New Testament objections, while remaining accessible to non-specialists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a false propaganda under the guise of being authentic, to mislead and spread misinformation to the church. Evil spirits such as Kundalini, Yoga, and occult mysticism are dangerous spirits invading the church. These practices offer experiences that are contrary to the Scriptures. This reference guide book will help to expose and teach the truth according to God's Word. God's people are being destroyed for the lack of knowledge. Unfortunately, there are many professing Christians today that rely on their own "feelings" as to whether something is of God. Experience should never validate truth, and to judge something on how it "feels" or "looks" rather than testing it against God's Word and sound doctrine is a road that will lead to ruin. Just because it feels "good," does not mean it is. There are "doorways" that must be closed to protect us from demonic oppression, depression and even sometimes leading to possession. In Exodus 20:23 (NJKV), God says, "You must not live according to the customs of the nations I am going to drive out before you. Because they did all these things, I abhorred them." Yasmeen Suri was born in India believing in the new age gods of her culture and converted to Christianity years later. She is a licensed ordained minister and speaks and sings professionally across the world. Yasmeen regularly appears on the 700 Club, TBN, TCT, National and International radio, churches and conventions sharing the dangers of "spiritual deception." She regularly sings the U.S. "National Anthem" and "God Bless America" for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Military, FBI, the United States Presidential Campaign, Politicians, Major Sports Teams and Dignitaries from around the world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For 50 years, researchers at UCL’s Thomas Coram Research Unit have been undertaking ground-breaking policy-relevant social research. Their main focus has been social issues affecting children, young people and families, and the services provided for them. Social Research for our Times brings together different generations of researchers from the Unit to share some of the most important results of their studies. Two sections focus on the main findings and conclusions from research into children and children services, and on family life, minoritised groups and gender. A third is then devoted to the innovative methods that have been developed and used to undertake research in these complex areas. Running through the book is a key strategic question: what should be the relationship between research and policy? Or put another way, what does ‘policy relevant research’ mean? This perennial question has gained new importance in the post-Covid, post-Brexit world that we have entered, making this text a timely intervention for sharing decades of experience. Taking a unique opportunity to reflect on research context as well as research findings, this book will be of interest to researchers, teachers, students and those involved in policy making both in and beyond dedicated research units, and can be read as a whole or sampled for individual standalone chapters.

Book excerpt: When Jesus Christ founded the New Testament Church, He said the gates of hell would not prevail against it. He prophesied of seven successive eras it would undergo before His Second Coming, and even foretold the predominant character of each. History shows that God's true Church—though it has gone largely unnoticed—has survived through the 20 centuries since that time, fulfilling Christ's prophecies in specific detail. Now, on the cusp of Christ's return, this dramatic and miraculous story can be fully told!
