Here he takes a fresh look at the people who have added to the wider culture, reputation and traditions on and off the park which have strengthened Celtic's position as a much valued institution. Purden talks to a selection of supporters, ex-players, managers and public figures, while travelling to a number of historical locations. While visiting the club's ancestral home in Ireland he discusses Celtic in the context of faith, politics and identity. The author channels the voices of secret millionaires, Irish troubadours, Scottish politicians and the club's most popular icons who take you on a Celtic odyssey in a continuing story that underlines why this team from Glasgow's East End personify a way of life that represents unwavering hope and positive life-affirming values around the world.

Book excerpt: Neuropsychologist Offers Hope to Those Struggling with Depression As a board-certified neuropsychologist, Dr. Michelle Bengtson sees the devastation of depression. Early on, she practiced the most effective treatments and prescribed them for her clients. But when she experienced depression herself, she found that the treatments she had recommended were lacking. Her experience showed her the missing component in treating depression. In Hope Prevails, Dr. Bengtson writes with deep compassion, blending her training and faith, to offer readers a hope grounded in God's love and grace. She helps readers understand what depression is, how it affects them spiritually, and what, by God's grace, it cannot do. The result is an approach that offers the hope of release, not just the management of symptoms. For those who struggle with depression and those who want to help them, Hope Prevails offers hope for the future.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In classroom and scholarly study, the Gospels, Acts, and the Pauline letters receive far more attention than does the so-called “end” of the New Testament: Hebrews; James; 1 and 2 Peter; 1, 2, and 3 John; Jude; and Revelation. Faithful to the End: An Introduction to Hebrews Through Revelation offers a careful study of these latter biblical letters, closely examining each one's authorship and origin, destination and audience, purpose, and major themes. Appropriate as a reference work or textbook in college and seminary classrooms, this volume uniquely combines head knowledge with a challenge to the heart, for it is purposefully titled after each book’s recurring theme of persevering in the faith. Coauthor Terry L. Wilder writes, “Our hope is that God might use this text to help readers not only learn about these New Testament books, but also to appropriate the message contained in each. May we be faithful to the end!”

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Anyone watching can see in these latter days that our world is in turmoil. People are restless, uneasy, and not sure about the future, with the failure and unresolve of many of her leaders who are not able, because of political pressure and lack of fortitude, to stand and deliberate as their position of responsibility requires with our social unrest, broken homes, infidelity in relationships, and disrespect among family, community, business, and governmental relationships. The devil himself is doubling his forces, doing all he can to steal, kill, and destroy everything that resembles the right, the righteous, the honest, and the prudent. We can see his influence in the hatred and cruelty of terrorism and the inhumane treatment by certain sects or groups, even religious ones, upon thousands and even millions of innocent people who just want to live peaceably, having their family members maimed, tortured, and even killed, seemingly just for sport. We see armies of religious factions that are recruiting and growing enormously with the express goal to annihilate and eradicate anyone or group that doesnt agree with their particular worship or lifestyle. Add this to the extreme climate changes, tsunamis, storms, earthquakes, global warming, etc., and we can see that our lives and our future are more than uncertain. The Bible asks the question in James 4:1: Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? The answer to this dilemma lies within the truth of God. Jesus stated in John 8:32: You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. Herein is the reason for this book. Wherever you find yourself in these last days, please know it is virtually impossible to know the truth and not be free.
