Book Synopsis Fair Isle Knitting and Design by : Nicki Merrall
Download or read book Fair Isle Knitting and Design written by Nicki Merrall and published by The Crowood Press. This book was released on 2020-04-03 with total page 456 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional Fair Isle knitting and design skills were originally handed down from one Shetland generation to the next, with each new generation of knitters experimenting, adapting and extending the repertoire of patterns to develop the Fair Isle knitting we see today. Fair Isle knitting is fascinating - only two colours are used in any single row - yet the patterns and colours chosen combine to create something that is more than the sum of its parts. The distinctive combination of colours and patterns, ranging from the simple to the highly intricate, continues to inspire knitters worldwide. This beautifully illustrated book includes the development of Fair Isle knitting; a collection of Fair Isle patterns and motifs; exercises to develop a sense of colour and apply colour theory to Fair Isle knitting and a detailed step-by-step guide for the techniques used in Fair Isle knitting. Five original designs, with further ideas for their modification and development are included too as well as guidance on adapting and designing Fair Isle projects of your own.

Book Synopsis Designing Fair Curves and Surfaces by : Nickolas S. Sapidis
Download or read book Designing Fair Curves and Surfaces written by Nickolas S. Sapidis and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1994-01-01 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This state-of-the-art study of the techniques used for designing curves and surfaces for computer-aided design applications focuses on the principle that fair shapes are always free of unessential features and are simple in design. The authors define fairness mathematically, demonstrate how newly developed curve and surface schemes guarantee fairness, and assist the user in identifying and removing shape aberrations in a surface model without destroying the principal shape characteristics of the model. Aesthetic aspects of geometric modeling are of vital importance in industrial design and modeling, particularly in the automobile and aerospace industries. Any engineer working in computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing, or computer-aided engineering will want to add this volume to his or her library. Researchers who have a familiarity with basic techniques in computer-aided graphic design and some knowledge of differential geometry will find this book a helpful reference. It is essential reading for statisticians working on approximation or smoothing of data with mathematical curves or surfaces.

Book Synopsis Transport Justice by : Karel Martens
Download or read book Transport Justice written by Karel Martens and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-07-01 with total page 240 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transport Justice develops a new paradigm for transportation planning based on principles of justice. Author Karel Martens starts from the observation that for the last fifty years the focus of transportation planning and policy has been on the performance of the transport system and ways to improve it, without much attention being paid to the persons actually using – or failing to use – that transport system. There are far-reaching consequences of this approach, with some enjoying the fruits of the improvements in the transport system, while others have experienced a substantial deterioration in their situation. The growing body of academic evidence on the resulting disparities in mobility and accessibility, have been paralleled by increasingly vocal calls for policy changes to address the inequities that have developed over time. Drawing on philosophies of social justice, Transport Justice argues that governments have the fundamental duty of providing virtually every person with adequate transportation and thus of mitigating the social disparities that have been created over the past decades. Critical reading for transport planners and students of transportation planning, this book develops a new approach to transportation planning that takes people as its starting point, and justice as its end.
Book Synopsis Fair Housing Act Design Manual by : U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
Download or read book Fair Housing Act Design Manual written by U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development and published by . This book was released on 2005 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Fair Housing Act Design Manual: A Manual to Assist Designers and Builders in Meeting the Accessibility Requirements of The Fair Housing Act provides clear and helpful guidance about ways to design and construct housing which complies with the Fair Housing Act. The manual provides direct information about the accessibility requirements of the Act, which must be incorporated into the design, and construction of multifamily housing covered by the Act. It carries out two statutory responsibilities: (1) to provide clear statement of HUD's interpretation of the accessibility requirements of the Act so that readers may know what actions on their part will provide them with a "safe harbor"; and (2) to provide guidance in the form of recommendations which, although not binding meet the Department's obligation to provide technical assistance on alternative accessibility approaches which will comply with the Act, but may exceed its minimal requirements. The latter information allows housing providers to choose among alternative and also provides persons with disabilities with information on accessible design approaches. The Manual clarifies what are requirements under the Act and what are HUD's technical assistance recommendations. The portions describing the requirements are clearly differentiated from the technical assistance recommendations.
