Snow covering and the presence or absence of excess moisture in the soil were found to be fully as important in winterkilling as minimum temperatures; differences in tillage and in the previous treatment of the land had profound effects, and finally the greatest possible d'iversity was found in the endurance Shown by strains of seed from different parts of the world.
