Sensible as I was, and am, of my inadequacy to the task, I will yet confess to you that the suggestion touched a responsive chord in my bosom. I had long felt, that the estimable character Of doctor-baldwin - no less than his laudable exertions as a Naturalist - gave him strong claims to the affection ate remembrance Of every kindred spirit; while his rare industry and sagacity entitled him to take rank with the most deserving Of our Pioneers in the field of American Botany.
