Book Synopsis Extension Problems and Stable Ranks by : Raymond Mortini
Download or read book Extension Problems and Stable Ranks written by Raymond Mortini and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-08-02 with total page 2197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This self-contained encyclopedic monograph gives a detailed introduction to Bézout equations and stable ranks, encompassing and explaining needed topological, analytical, and algebraic tools and methods. Some of the highlights included are Carleson's corona theorem and the Bass, topological, and matricial stable ranks. The first volume focusses on topological structures, Banach algebras, and advanced function theory, thus preparing the stage for the algebraic structures in the second volume towards examining stable ranks with analytic methods. The main emphasis is laid on algebras of holomorphic functions. Often a new approach is presented or at least a different angle of sight, which makes the book attractive both for researchers and students interested in these active fields of research.

Download or read book Rigidity in Higher Rank Abelian Group Actions: Volume 1, Introduction and Cocycle Problem written by Anatole Katok and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-06-16 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This self-contained monograph presents rigidity theory for a large class of dynamical systems, differentiable higher rank hyperbolic and partially hyperbolic actions. This first volume describes the subject in detail and develops the principal methods presently used in various aspects of the rigidity theory. Part I serves as an exposition and preparation, including a large collection of examples that are difficult to find in the existing literature. Part II focuses on cocycle rigidity, which serves as a model for rigidity phenomena as well as a useful tool for studying them. The book is an ideal reference for applied mathematicians and scientists working in dynamical systems and a useful introduction for graduate students interested in entering the field. Its wealth of examples also makes it excellent supplementary reading for any introductory course in dynamical systems.

Book Synopsis Perspectives on Noncommutative Geometry by : Masoud Khalkhali
Download or read book Perspectives on Noncommutative Geometry written by Masoud Khalkhali and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2011 with total page 176 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume represents the proceedings of the Noncommutative Geometry Workshop that was held as part of the thematic program on operator algebras at the Fields Institute in May 2008. Pioneered by Alain Connes starting in the late 1970s, noncommutative geometry was originally inspired by global analysis, topology, operator algebras, and quantum physics. Its main applications were to settle some long-standing conjectures, such as the Novikov conjecture and the Baum-Connes conjecture. Next came the impact of spectral geometry and the way the spectrum of a geometric operator, like the Laplacian, holds information about the geometry and topology of a manifold, as in the celebrated Weyl law. This has now been vastly generalized through Connes' notion of spectral triples. Finally, recent years have witnessed the impact of number theory, algebraic geometry and the theory of motives, and quantum field theory on noncommutative geometry. Almost all of these aspects are touched upon with new results in the papers of this volume. This book is intended for graduate students and researchers in both mathematics and theoretical physics who are interested in noncommutative geometry and its applications.
Book Synopsis The Corona Problem by : Ronald G. Douglas
Download or read book The Corona Problem written by Ronald G. Douglas and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-05 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the corona workshop was to consider the corona problem in both one and several complex variables, both in the context of function theory and harmonic analysis as well as the context of operator theory and functional analysis. It was held in June 2012 at the Fields Institute in Toronto, and attended by about fifty mathematicians. This volume validates and commemorates the workshop, and records some of the ideas that were developed within. The corona problem dates back to 1941. It has exerted a powerful influence over mathematical analysis for nearly 75 years. There is material to help bring people up to speed in the latest ideas of the subject, as well as historical material to provide background. Particularly noteworthy is a history of the corona problem, authored by the five organizers, that provides a unique glimpse at how the problem and its many different solutions have developed. There has never been a meeting of this kind, and there has never been a volume of this kind. Mathematicians—both veterans and newcomers—will benefit from reading this book. This volume makes a unique contribution to the analysis literature and will be a valuable part of the canon for many years to come.

Book Synopsis Algorithmics of Matching Under Preferences by : David F Manlove
Download or read book Algorithmics of Matching Under Preferences written by David F Manlove and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2013-03-20 with total page 524 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Matching problems with preferences are all around us: they arise when agents seek to be allocated to one another on the basis of ranked preferences over potential outcomes. Efficient algorithms are needed for producing matchings that optimise the satisfaction of the agents according to their preference lists. In recent years there has been a sharp increase in the study of algorithmic aspects of matching problems with preferences, partly reflecting the growing number of applications of these problems worldwide. The importance of the research area was recognised in 2012 through the award of the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences to Alvin Roth and Lloyd Shapley. This book describes the most important results in this area, providing a timely update to The Stable Marriage Problem: Structure and Algorithms (D Gusfield and R W Irving, MIT Press, 1989) in connection with stable matching problems, whilst also broadening the scope to include matching problems with preferences under a range of alternative optimality criteria. Contents:Preliminary Definitions, Results and MotivationStable Matching Problems:The Stable Marriage Problem: An UpdateSM and HR with IndifferenceThe Stable Roommates ProblemFurther Stable Matching ProblemsOther Optimal Matching Problems:Pareto Optimal MatchingsPopular MatchingsProfile-Based Optimal Matchings Readership: Students and Professionals interested in algorithms, especially in the study of algorithmic aspects of matching problems with preferences. Keywords:Matching Problems;Preferences;Algorithms;Stable Marriage Problem;Hospitals / Residents Problem;House Allocation Problem;Stable Roomates ProblemKey Features:Provides a much-needed “sequel” to Gusfield and Irving, given that so many papers on matching problems with preferences have been published since 1989Collects together a survey of the main results from these publications in a single volumeContains unique single survey on efficient algorithms for constructing optimal matchings where the optimality criterion does not involve stabilityReviews: “Besides being extremely useful to those who are interested in design and analysis techniques related to algorithms and complexity issues related to the matching of agents to one another when preferences are involved, involved readers can also benefit from the easy way it presents various ideas and approaches to problem solutions. It is written in a highly scientific language and it is extraordinarily beneficial reading for post-docs and researchers in mathematics and in game theory that focus on algorithms for solving matching problems and also study applications involving such problems.” Zentralblatt MATH
