This book was released on 2015-05-20 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In her dissertation, Laura Göttmann deals with the concept of pattern as it is used in the Pattern Grammar. Patterns are derived from frequency-based corpus analysis and represent a way of interpreting the English language within the framework of COBUILD research. The study critically assesses the concept of pattern and of pattern flow within the framework of the Pattern Grammar. It focusses on the question of which level of linguistic description (abstraction) best represents typical recurring linear structures in language. Laura Göttmann also provides an alternative way of describing regular patterning which is based on an overview of well-known linguistic concepts in abstract language description from early Structuralism to today and of corpus linguistic developments. The study may be considered a contribution to a theoretical framework based on abstractions and instantiations in language description evolving from corpus linguistic language analysis.

Book excerpt: The director's authorial role in filmmaking--the extent to which a film reflects his or her individual style and creative vision--has been much debated among film critics and scholars for decades. Drawing on generations of criticism, this study describes how the designation "auteur" has gone from stylistic criterion to product label--in what has always been an essentially collaborative industry. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book maps changing patterns of drinking. Emphasis is laid on the connected histories of different regions and populations across the globe regarding consumption patterns, government policies, economics and representations of alcohol and drinking. Its transnational perspective facilitates an understanding of the local and global factors that have had a bearing on alcohol consumption and legislation, especially on the emergence of particular styles of ‘drinking cultures’. The comparative approach helps to identify similarities, differences and crossovers between particular regions and pinpoint the parameters that shape alcohol consumption, policies, legal and illegal production, and popular perceptions. With a wide geographic range, the book explores plural drinking cultures within any one region, their association with specific social groups, and their continuities and changes in the wake of wider global, colonial and postcolonial economic, political and social constraints and exchanges.
