The first chapter offers an introduction to various AI techniques and sheet metal forming, while subsequent chapters describe traditional procedures/methods used in various sheet metal forming processes, and focus on the automation of those processes by means of AI techniques, such as KBS, ANN, GA, CBR, etc. Feature recognition and the manufacturability assessment of sheet metal parts, process planning, strip-layout design, selecting the type and size of die components, die modeling, and predicting die life are some of the most important aspects of sheet metal work. Traditionally, these activities are highly experience-based, tedious and time consuming. In response, researchers in several countries have applied various AI techniques to automate these activities, which are covered in this book. This book will be useful for engineers working in sheet metal industries, and will serve to provide future direction to young researchers and students working in the area.

Download or read book Expert Systems written by Petrică Vizureanu and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2010-01-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expert systems represent a branch of artificial intelligence aiming to take the experience of human specialists and transfer it to a computer system. The knowledge is stored in the computer, which by an execution system (inference engine) is reasoning and derives specific conclusions for the problem. The purpose of expert systems is to help and support user’s reasoning but not by replacing human judgement. In fact, expert systems offer to the inexperienced user a solution when human experts are not available. This book has 18 chapters and explains that the expert systems are products of artificial intelligence, branch of computer science that seeks to develop intelligent programs. What is remarkable for expert systems is the applicability area and solving of different issues in many fields of architecture, archeology, commerce, trade, education, medicine to engineering systems, production of goods and control/diagnosis problems in many industrial branches.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Having edited "Journal of Materials Processing Technology" (previously entitled "Journal of Mechanical Working Technology") for close on 25 years, I have seen the many dramatic changes that have occurred in the materials processing field. Long gone are the days when the only "materials processing" carried out was virtually the forming of conventional metals and alloys, and when the development of a new product or process in a great number of cases called for several months of repetitive trial-and-error,' with many (mostly intuition- or experience-based) expensive and time-consuming modifications being made to the dies, until success was achieved. Even when a 'successful' product was formed, its mechanical properties, in terms of springback and dimensional accuracy, thickness variations, residual stresses, surface finish, etc. , remained to be determined. Bulk-forming operations usually required expensive machining to be carried out on the product to impart the required dimensional accuracy and surface fmish. Over the years, the experience-based craft of metal forming has given way to the science of materials processing. With the use of the computer, forming operations can be simulated with accuracy, to determine the best forming route and the associated forming loads and die stresses, and to predict the mechanical properties of the formed product, even down to its surface texture.

This book was released on 2011-10-10 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ability to create intelligent machines has intrigued humans since ancient times, and today with the advent of the computer and 50 years of research into AI programming techniques, the dream of smart machines is becoming a reality. The concept of human-computer interfaces has been undergoing changes over the years. In carrying out the most important tasks is the lack of formalized application methods, mathematical models and advanced computer support. The evolution of biological systems to adapt to their environment has fascinated and challenged scientists to increase their level of understanding of the functional characteristics of such systems. This book has 19 chapters and explain that the expert systems are products of the artificial intelligence, branch of computer science that seeks to develop intelligent programs for human, materials and automation.
Book Synopsis Transdisciplinary Engineering for Complex Socio-technical Systems – Real-life Applications by : J. Pokojski
Download or read book Transdisciplinary Engineering for Complex Socio-technical Systems – Real-life Applications written by J. Pokojski and published by IOS Press. This book was released on 2020-10-20 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Transdisciplinary engineering transcends other inter- and multi-disciplinary ways of working, such as Concurrent Engineering (CE). In particular, transdisciplinary processes are aimed at solving complex, ill-defined problems, or problems for which the solution is not immediately obvious. No one discipline or single person can provide sufficient knowledge to solve such problems, so collaboration is essential. This book presents the proceedings of the 27th ISTE International Conference on Transdisciplinary Engineering, organized by Warsaw University of Technology, Poland, from 1-10 July 2020. ISTE2020 was the first of this conference series to be held virtually, due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Entitled Transdisciplinary Engineering for Complex Socio-technical Systems - Real-life Applications, the book includes 71 peer-reviewed papers presented at the conference by authors from 17 countries. These range from theoretical and conceptual to strongly pragmatic and addressing industrial best practice and, together with invited talks, they have been collated into 9 sections: Transdisciplinary Engineering (7 papers); Transdisciplinary Engineering Education (4 papers); Industry 4.0, Methods and Tools (7 papers); Human-centered Design (8 papers); Methods and Tools for Design and Production (14 papers); Product and Process Development (9 papers); Knowledge and Data Modeling (13 papers); Business Process and Supply Chain Management (7 papers); and Sustainability (2 papers). Book Synopsis Numerical Modelling of Material Deformation Processes by : Peter Hartley
Download or read book Numerical Modelling of Material Deformation Processes written by Peter Hartley and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal aim of this text is to encourage the development and application of numerical modelling techniques as an aid to achieving greater efficiency and optimization of metal-forming processes. The contents of this book have therefore been carefully planned to provide both an introduction to the fundamental theory of material deformation simulation, and also a comprehensive survey of the "state-of-the-art" of deformation modelling techniques and their application to specific and industrially relevant processes. To this end, leading international figures in the field of material deformation research have been invited to contribute chapters on subjects on which they are acknowledged experts. The information in this book has been arranged in four parts: Part I deals with plasticity theory, Part II with various numerical modelling techniques, Part III with specific process applications and material phenomena and Part IV with integrated computer systems. The objective of Part I is to establish the underlying theory of material deformation on which the following chapters can build. It begins with a chapter which reviews the basic theories of classical plasticity and describes their analytical representations. The second chapter moves on to look at the theory of deforming materials and shows how these expressions may be used in numerical techniques. The last two chapters of Part I provide a review of isotropic plasticity and anisotropic plasticity.
