Download or read book Twenty-Third Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2002-01-01 with total page 1024 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Vive la Revolution!" was the theme of the Twenty-Third Symposium on Naval Hydrodynamics held in Val de Reuil, France, from September 17-22, 2000 as more than 140 experts in ship design, construction, and operation came together to exchange naval research developments. The forum encouraged both formal and informal discussion of presented papers, and the occasion provides an opportunity for direct communication between international peers. This book includes sixty-three papers presented at the symposium which was organized jointly by the Office of Naval Research, the National Research Council (Naval Studies Board), and the Bassin d'Essais des Carènes. This book includes the ten topical areas discussed at the symposium: wave-induced motions and loads, hydrodynamics in ship design, propulsor hydrodynamics and hydroacoustics, CFD validation, viscous ship hydrodynamics, cavitation and bubbly flow, wave hydrodynamics, wake dynamics, shallow water hydrodynamics, and fluid dynamics in the naval context.

This book was released on 2009-09-29 with total page 588 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Volume is the Proceedings of the IUTAM Symposium on Unsteady Separated Flows and Their Control held in Corfu, Greece, 18–22 June 2007. This was the second IUTAM Symposium on this subject, following the symposium in Toulouse, in April 2002. The Symposium consisted of single plenary sessions with invited lectures, - lected oral presentations, discussions on special topics and posters. The complete set of papers was provided to all participants at the meeting. The thematic sessions of this Symposium are presented in the following: Experimental techniques for the unsteady ow separation Theoretical aspects and analytical approaches of ow separation Instability and transition Compressibility effects related to unsteady separation Statistical and hybrid turbulence modelling for unsteady separated ows Direct and Large-Eddy Simulation of unsteady separated ows Theoretical/industrial aspects of unsteady separated ow control This IUTAM Symposium concerned an important domain of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics nowadays. It focused on the problem of ow separation and of its control. It achieved a uni ed approach regrouping the knowledge provided from theoretical, experimental, numerical simulation and modelling aspects for unsteady separated ows (incompressible and compressible regimes) and included ef cient control devices to achieve attenuation or suppression of separation. The subject - eas covered important themes in the domain of fundamental research as well as in the domain of applications.
Book Synopsis Shock Wave-Boundary-Layer Interactions by : Holger Babinsky
Download or read book Shock Wave-Boundary-Layer Interactions written by Holger Babinsky and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2011-09-12 with total page 481 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock wave-boundary-layer interaction (SBLI) is a fundamental phenomenon in gas dynamics that is observed in many practical situations, ranging from transonic aircraft wings to hypersonic vehicles and engines. SBLIs have the potential to pose serious problems in a flowfield; hence they often prove to be a critical - or even design limiting - issue for many aerospace applications. This is the first book devoted solely to a comprehensive, state-of-the-art explanation of this phenomenon. It includes a description of the basic fluid mechanics of SBLIs plus contributions from leading international experts who share their insight into their physics and the impact they have in practical flow situations. This book is for practitioners and graduate students in aerodynamics who wish to familiarize themselves with all aspects of SBLI flows. It is a valuable resource for specialists because it compiles experimental, computational and theoretical knowledge in one place.

This book was released on 2013-03-08 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dynamical systems theory and flow control are two research areas of great current interest. These and other special situations are among the topics covered in this volume. Each article emphasizes the use of experiments to achieve better physical understanding of a particular class of flow problems. The topics covered were chosen because of their importance to the field, recent appeal, and potential for future development. The articles are comprehensive and coverage is pedagogical with a bias towards recent developments.
Book Synopsis Experimental Study of the Effect of Streamwise Vortices on Unsteady Turbulent Boundary-layer Separation by : W. W. Humphreys
Download or read book Experimental Study of the Effect of Streamwise Vortices on Unsteady Turbulent Boundary-layer Separation written by W. W. Humphreys and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This experiment studied the effect of streamwise vortices on unsteady turbulent boundary-layer separation. The objectives were to document the flow field, to characterize the time response of the boundary layer, and to understand the actual mechanisms by which the streamwise vortices modify boundary-layer behavior. A new configuration for non-obtrusive three-component Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) determined the phase averaged velocity and Reynolds stress components, in an unsteady water tunnel, at a momentum thickness Reynolds number of 1840. The streamwise vortices were created by three pairs of half-delta wing vortex generators, while the boundary-layer separation was controlled through impulsively initiated opposite-wall suction, which created a strong adverse pressure gradient. The time response of the freestream velocity demonstrates that convection is the primary mechanism by which vortex generators modify the response of the boundary layer. There is an initial fast response throughout the boundary layer which is unaffected by the presence of vortex generators, followed by a slow or convective response, the magnitude of which is substantially modified by the presence of the vortex generators. Book Synopsis Theoretical and Experimental Aerodynamics by : Mrinal Kaushik
Download or read book Theoretical and Experimental Aerodynamics written by Mrinal Kaushik and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-15 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended as a text for undergraduate and graduate courses in aerodynamics, typically offered to students of aerospace and mechanical engineering programs. It covers all aspects of aerodynamics. The book begins with a description of the standard atmosphere and basic concepts, then moves on to cover the equations and mathematical models used to describe and characterize flow fields, as well as their thermodynamic aspects and applications. Specific emphasis is placed on the relation between concepts and their use in aircraft design. Additional topics of interest to the reader are presented in the Appendix, which draws on the teachings provided in the text. The book is written in an easy to understand manner, with pedagogical aids such as chapter overviews, summaries, and descriptive and objective questions to help students evaluate their progress. Atmospheric and gas tables are provided to facilitate problem solving. Lastly, a detailed bibliography is included at the end of each chapter to provide students with further resources. The book can also be used as a text for professional development courses in aerodynamics.
