Book Synopsis Introduction to Reactive Gas Dynamics by : Raymond Brun
Download or read book Introduction to Reactive Gas Dynamics written by Raymond Brun and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2009-02-26 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In high energy gas flows, at high velocities and high temperatures, physical and chemical processes such as molecular vibrational excitation, dissociation, ionisation or various reactions take place and deeply influence the structure of the flows. The characteristic times of these processes have the same order of magnitude as aerodynamic characteristic times, so that these reactive media are generally in thermodynamic and chemical non-equilibrium. This book presents a general introductory study of these media. In the first part their fundamental statistical aspects are described, starting from their discrete structure and taking into account the interactions between elementary particles: transport phenomena, relaxation and kinetics as well as their coupling are analysed and illustrated by many examples. The second part deals with the macroscopic re-entry bodies. Finally, the experimental aspects of these flows, their simulations in shock tubes and shock tunnels are described, as well as their application, particularly in the aerospatial domain. This book is intended for students that have acquired a basic knowledge in thermodynamics, statistical physics and fluid mechanics. It will also be of interest to engineers in research and industry, in particular in the aerospace industry, and more generally to all researchers trying to simulate and calculate complex reactive flows.

Book Synopsis Shock Waves in Condensed Matter - 1983 by : J.R. Asay
Download or read book Shock Waves in Condensed Matter - 1983 written by J.R. Asay and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 673 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Shock Waves in Condensed Matter – 1983 covers the proceedings of the American Physical Society Topical Conference, held in Santa Fe, New Mexico on July 18-21, 1983. The book focuses on the response of matter to dynamic high pressure and temperature. The selection first elaborates on the review of theoretical calculations of phase transitions and comparisons with experimental results; theoretical and experimental studies of shock-compressed benzene and polybutene; and theory of the iron equation of state and melting curve to very high pressures. The text then ponders on nonhydrostatic effects in stress-wave induced phase transformation of calcite; Bauschinger effect model suitable for use in large computer codes; and strain rate sensitivity prediction for porous bed compaction. The manuscript takes a look at flaw nucleation and energetics of dynamic fragmentation, shock loading behavior of fused quartz, and aluminum damage simulation in high-velocity impact. Shock wave diagnostics by time-resolved infrared radiometry and non-linear Raman spectroscopy; Raman scattering temperature measurement behind a shock wave; and experiments and simulation on laser-driven shock wave evolution in aluminum targets are also discussed. The selection is a dependable reference for scientists and readers interested in the response of matter when exposed to dynamic high pressure and temperature.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A series of experiments have been carried out to study shock-initiated combustion in a converging lens geometry. For heavy gas bubbles, the acoustic impedance mismatch results in a focusing of the transmitted shock wave known as the shock focusing phenomenon. The increase in temperature and pressure that result from this phenomenon are used to ignite a combustible gas mixture near the downstream pole of the bubble. The characteristics of the ignition and propagation of the reaction front are studied experimentally in conjunction with the hydrodynamic bubble morphology. The experiments cover a range of incident shock wave Mach numbers (1.35

Book Synopsis Nonstationary Flows and Shock Waves by : Irvine I. Glass
Download or read book Nonstationary Flows and Shock Waves written by Irvine I. Glass and published by . This book was released on 1994-09-22 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An understanding of nonstationary gas flows (and liquids under high pressure) is of critical importance to engineers studying phenomena such as shock waves arising from an explosion of energy in a limited space, the behavior of media through which the shock propagate, and the nonstationary motion of a mixture of gases in energy-producing devices and engines. In this authoritative and well-written book, the reader will find comprehensive treatments of all important aspects of shock-tube and shock-wave research in pure and dusty gases, as well as of dissociated and ionized boundary layers, spherical and cylindrical explosion and implosion phenomena, hypervelocity launchers, and shock-wave reflections, diffractions, and refractions. Unique in its deft combination of analytical, numerical, and experimental work, the book expertly covers 40 years of continuous research in the area. It will be sought after by mechanical engineering students and researchers interested in explosion and blast wave phenomena.
Book Synopsis Shock Wave Structure in a Fully Ionized Gas Based on Multi-component Fluid Theory by : Huon Li
Download or read book Shock Wave Structure in a Fully Ionized Gas Based on Multi-component Fluid Theory written by Huon Li and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The multi-component continuous approach for the investigation of the gasdynamics of a plasma is presented. More information about the flow properties of a plasma can be obtained than from the classical magnetohydrodynamic approach. Also, the resulting equations appear to be more easily solved than the Blotzmann equation of classical kinetic theory. The basic macroscopic conservation equations for a non-reacting multi-component plasma are presented. The fluid properties of each component are referred to the mean velocity of that component. Therefore, no limitations are placed on the magnitude of the diffusion velocities. The effects of electric and magnetic fields are included. The equations for a two-component mixture are used to study the structure of a shock wave in a fully-ionized hydrogen gas. It is assumed that the momentum exchange and energy exchange between the ions and electrons are important because of the strong Coulomb forces present. (Author).
