Book Synopsis High-Power Laser Radiation in Atmospheric Aerosols by : V.E. Zuev
Download or read book High-Power Laser Radiation in Atmospheric Aerosols written by V.E. Zuev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 303 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Unique properties of laser radiation including its monochromatic properties, polarization, high spectral intensity, coherence, narrow beam divergence, the possibility of controlling the pulse duration and radiation spectrum and, finally, the fact that extremely high power and energy create very favorable conditions for the extensive application of lasers to communi cation systems, systems for the lidar sensing and ultra-high-precision ranging, navigation, remote monitoring of the environment, and many other systems operating in the atmosphere. The operative efficiency of the above systems depends significantly on the state of the atmosphere and the corresponding behavior of laser radia tion propagating through it. This circumstance has stimulated the studies of the above regularities during the passt 10-15 years. For the investiga tions to be carried out the scientists were forced to develop new theories and methods for studying the problem experimentally. Moreover, during such investigations some previously unknown phenomena were observed, among them the nonlinear effects accompanying high-power laser radiation propagating through the atmosphere are of paramount importance. Among the nonlinear effects caused by high-power laser radiation inter action with the atmosphere, the effects accompanying the propagation of high-power radiation through the atmospheric aerosols are of particular interest. Aerosols always occur in the atmosphere. It should be noted that the microphysical and optical characteristics of atmospheric aerosols vary widely, this fact causes a great variety in the features of their inter action with radiation.

Book Synopsis Droplets and Sprays by : Sergei Sazhin
Download or read book Droplets and Sprays written by Sergei Sazhin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-19 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Providing a clear and systematic description of droplets and spray dynamic models, this book maximises reader insight into the underlying physics of the processes involved, outlines the development of new physical and mathematical models and broadens understanding of interactions between the complex physical processes which take place in sprays. Complementing approaches based on the direct application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), Droplets and Sprays treats both theoretical and practical aspects of internal combustion engine process such as the direct injection of liquid fuel, subcritical heating and evaporation. Including case studies that illustrate the approaches relevance to automotive applications, it is also anticipated that the described models can find use in other areas such as in medicine and environmental science.

Electromagnetic Wave Propagation Panel. Specialists' Meeting and published by . This book was released on 1988 with total page 568 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The topic of scattering and propagation in random media is one that has implications for the design, development and operation of most military systems that radiate energy as a means of accomplishing their funtion. Primary emphasis is on scattering and transmission in the atmosphere; however, other related random medium effects are not excluded. Modern methods of characterizing random media, mathematical methods and their applicability, effects on electromagnetic waves and the interpretation of these effects to specific system applications are described. The region of the spectrum considered is essentially unlimited and ranges from very long waves to optics. The performance of existing surveillance communication and navigation systems as well as the design of future systems is influenced by the propagation of energy via random media. An understanding of the nature of the medium and its impact on system design and performance is essential to the NATO community.

Book Synopsis Droplets and Sprays: Simple Models of Complex Processes by : Sergei S. Sazhin
Download or read book Droplets and Sprays: Simple Models of Complex Processes written by Sergei S. Sazhin and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-28 with total page 603 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book acts as a guide to simple models that describe some of the complex fluid dynamics, heat/mass transfer and combustion processes in droplets and sprays. Attention is focused mainly on the use of classical hydrodynamics, and a combination of kinetic and hydrodynamic models, to analyse the heating and evaporation of mono- and multi-component droplets. The models were developed for cases when small and large numbers of components are present in droplets. Some of these models are used for the prediction of time to puffing/micro-explosion of composite water/fuel droplets — processes that are widely used in combustion devices to stimulate disintegration of relatively large droplets into smaller ones. The predictions of numerical codes based on these models are validated against experimental results where possible. In most of the models, droplets are assumed to be spherical; some preliminary results of the generalisation of these models to the case of non-spherical droplets, approximating them as spheroids, are presented.
