Book Synopsis Sulfidic Sediments and Sedimentary Rocks by : David Rickard
Download or read book Sulfidic Sediments and Sedimentary Rocks written by David Rickard and published by Newnes. This book was released on 2012-12-31 with total page 813 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with sedimentary sulfides which are the most abundant authigenic minerals in sediments. Special emphasis is given to the biogeochemistry that plays such a central role in the formation of sedimentary sulfides. It will be of interest to scientists in a number of disciplines, including geology, microbiology, chemistry and environmental science. The sulfur system is important to environmental scientists considering the present and future effects of pollution and anoxia. The development of the sulfur system – particularly the characteristics of ocean anoxia over the last 200 Ma – is useful in predicting the future fate of the Earth surface system as well as in understanding the past. The biochemistry and microbiology of the sulfur system are key to understanding microbial ecology and the evolution of life. First monograph on sedimentary sulfides, covering the ancient and modern sedimentary sulfide systems Comprehensive, integrating chemistry, microbiology, geology and environmental science All key references are included and discussed
Book Synopsis Environmental Issues of Deep-Sea Mining by : Rahul Sharma
Download or read book Environmental Issues of Deep-Sea Mining written by Rahul Sharma and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-05-07 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume discusses environmental issues associated with deep-sea mining, with an emphasis on potential impacts, their consequences and the policy perspectives. The book describes the methods and technologies to assess, monitor and mitigate mining impacts on marine environments, and also suggests various approaches for environmental management when conducting deep-sea mining. The volume brings together information and data for researchers, contractors, mining companies, regulators, and NGOs working in the field of deep-sea mining. Section 1 highlights the various environmental issues and discusses methods and approaches that can help in developing environmentally sustainable deep-sea mining. Section 2 details the results and outcomes of studies related to impact assessment of deep-sea mining, and proposes methods for monitoring. Section 3 discusses the need and means for developing data standards and their application to deep-sea mining. Section 4 discusses the policies, approaches, and practices related to deep-sea mining, suggests formats for developing environmental impact statements (EIS) and environmental management plans (EMP), and describes national and international regulations for environmental management. Section 5 concludes the text by putting deep-sea economic activities into an environmental context and conducting techno-economic analyses of deep-sea mining and processing.
Book Synopsis Regolith Exploration Geochemistry in Tropical and Subtropical Terrains by : C. R. M. Butt
Download or read book Regolith Exploration Geochemistry in Tropical and Subtropical Terrains written by C. R. M. Butt and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1992 with total page 654 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hardbound. The use of exploration geochemistry has increased enormously in the last decade. The present volume specifically addresses those geochemical exploration practices appropriate for tropical, sub-tropical and adjacent areas - in environments ranging from rainforest to desert. Practical recommendations are made for the optimization of sampling, and analytical and interpretational procedures for exploration according to the particular nature of tropically weathered terrains. The underlying theme is the recognition that regions between 35N and 35S in particular have a common history of deep chemical weathering and lateritization during the late Mesozoic and early Tertiary. This has had a profound and lasting effect, so that the surface geochemical expressions of mineralization throughout these regions have many similar features, with local modification due to more recent weathering under changed climates. The volume discusses the da

Book Synopsis Miscellaneous Publication by : Helmut Kohnke
Download or read book Miscellaneous Publication written by Helmut Kohnke and published by . This book was released on 1940 with total page 72 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the great impetus that soil conservation and flood-control work have given to the study of the relations of water to soil, lysimeters have received wider attention during the past decade than at any previous time. They have been used for at least two and a half centuries in studies of the percolation of water through the soil. The purpose of such studies may be strictly hydrological, attention being given only to the rate and amount of the percolate. In most of the more recent investigations the chemical composition of the percolate is analyzed, generally as a part of the study of the fertility balance of the soil, but, in some cases in connection with studies of the genesis and development of soils.
