Book Synopsis Child Psychology and Pedagogy by : Maurice Merleau-Ponty
Download or read book Child Psychology and Pedagogy written by Maurice Merleau-Ponty and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 2010-06-30 with total page 529 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Maurice Merleau-Ponty is one of the few major phenomenologists to engage extensively with empirical research in the sciences, and the only one to examine child psychology with rigor and in such depth. His writings have recently become increasingly influential, as the findings of psychology and cognitive science inform and are informed by phenomenological inquiry. Merleau-Ponty’s Sorbonne lectures of 1949 to 1952 are a broad investigation into child psychology, psychoanalysis, pedagogy, phenomenology, sociology, and anthropology. They argue that the subject of child psychology is critical for any philosophical attempt to understand individual and intersubjective existence. Talia Welsh’s new translation provides Merleau-Ponty’s complete lectures on the seminal engagement of phenomenology and psychology.

Book Synopsis Experimental Pedagogy and the Psychology of the Child by : Ed; Claparède
Download or read book Experimental Pedagogy and the Psychology of the Child written by Ed; Claparède and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2015-06-26 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Experimental Pedagogy and the Psychology of the Child This new edition differs from preceding editions by many alterations: the Historical Sketch is included for the first time, Chapters II., III., and V. have been completed and more or less remodelled; on the other hand, the chapter on Mental Development has been but little changed. The volume as a whole has been increased by nearly 200 pages, and the authors quoted now number 630 as against 250. In some of the reviews of this work, regret has been expressed that it did not contain more practical advice for the pedagogue. But my aim in writing the book was not to compile a manual of pedagogy; I simply wished to introduce the educator to psychological science, and particularly to the psychology of the child. The first steps taken in learning a new science are always tiresome and difficult: time is lost in finding one's bearings, in understanding what exactly is the aim of the science, in discovering the problems which it tries to solve; therefore a guide is often very valuable. To be such a guide is the function of this book, at least a guide to the study of those problems which are here treated. Book Synopsis Transforming the Workforce for Children Birth Through Age 8 by : National Research Council
Download or read book Transforming the Workforce for Children Birth Through Age 8 written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2015-07-23 with total page 587 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Children are already learning at birth, and they develop and learn at a rapid pace in their early years. This provides a critical foundation for lifelong progress, and the adults who provide for the care and the education of young children bear a great responsibility for their health, development, and learning. Despite the fact that they share the same objective - to nurture young children and secure their future success - the various practitioners who contribute to the care and the education of children from birth through age 8 are not acknowledged as a workforce unified by the common knowledge and competencies needed to do their jobs well. Transforming the Workforce for Children Birth Through Age 8 explores the science of child development, particularly looking at implications for the professionals who work with children. This report examines the current capacities and practices of the workforce, the settings in which they work, the policies and infrastructure that set qualifications and provide professional learning, and the government agencies and other funders who support and oversee these systems. This book then makes recommendations to improve the quality of professional practice and the practice environment for care and education professionals. These detailed recommendations create a blueprint for action that builds on a unifying foundation of child development and early learning, shared knowledge and competencies for care and education professionals, and principles for effective professional learning. Young children thrive and learn best when they have secure, positive relationships with adults who are knowledgeable about how to support their development and learning and are responsive to their individual progress. Transforming the Workforce for Children Birth Through Age 8 offers guidance on system changes to improve the quality of professional practice, specific actions to improve professional learning systems and workforce development, and research to continue to build the knowledge base in ways that will directly advance and inform future actions. The recommendations of this book provide an opportunity to improve the quality of the care and the education that children receive, and ultimately improve outcomes for children.

Book Synopsis Experimental Design in Psychology by : M. Kimberly MacLin
Download or read book Experimental Design in Psychology written by M. Kimberly MacLin and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-12-22 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This text is about doing science and the active process of reading, learning, thinking, generating ideas, designing experiments, and the logistics surrounding each step of the research process. In easy-to-read, conversational language, Kim MacLin teaches students experimental design principles and techniques using a tutorial approach in which students read, critique, and analyze over 75 actual experiments from every major area of psychology. She provides them with real-world information about how science in psychology is conducted and how they can participate. Recognizing that students come to an experimental design course with their own interests and perspectives, MacLin covers many subdisciplines of psychology throughout the text, including IO psychology, child psychology, social psychology, behavioral psychology, cognitive psychology, clinical psychology, health psychology, educational/school psychology, legal psychology, and personality psychology, among others. Part I of the text is content oriented and provides an overview of the principles of experimental design. Part II contains annotated research articles for students to read and analyze. New sections on how to critically evaluate media reports of scientific findings (in other words, how to identify ‘fake news’), authorship guidelines and decisions, survey research methods and AI tools have been included. Further, expanded information on the Open Science movement, and on ethics in research, and methods to achieve clarity and precision in thinking and writing are included. This edition is up to date with the latest APA Publication Manual (7th edition) and includes an overview of the bias-free language guidelines, the use of singular "they," and an ethical compliance checklist.. This text is essential reading for students and researchers interested in and studying experimental design in psychology.
Book Synopsis The Montessori Method - Scientific Pedagogy as Applied to Child Education by : Maria Montessori
Download or read book The Montessori Method - Scientific Pedagogy as Applied to Child Education written by Maria Montessori and published by anboco. This book was released on 2016-08-18 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the period that has elapsed between the publication of the Italian and American editions, I have had, with my pupils, the opportunity to simplify and render more exact certain practical details of the method, and to gather additional observations concerning discipline. The results attest the vitality of the method and the necessity for an [Pg viii]extended scientific collaboration in the near future, and are embodied in two new chapters written for the American edition. I know that my method has been widely spoken of in America, thanks to Mr. S. S. McClure, who has presented it through the pages of his well-known magazine. Indeed, many Americans have already come to Rome for the purpose of observing personally the practical application of the method in my little schools. If, encouraged by this movement, I may express a hope for the future, it is that my work in Rome shall become the centre of an efficient and helpful collaboration. To the Harvard professors who have made my work known in America and to McClure's Magazine, a mere acknowledgment of what I owe them is a barren response; but it is my hope that the method itself, in its effect upon the children of America, may prove an adequate expression of my gratitude. Maria Montessori.
