Book Synopsis Pressure-distribution Measurements on the Rotating Blades of a Single-stage Axial-flow Compressor by : Jack F. Runckel
Download or read book Pressure-distribution Measurements on the Rotating Blades of a Single-stage Axial-flow Compressor written by Jack F. Runckel and published by . This book was released on 1947 with total page 550 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A preliminary investigation has been made of the pressure distribution about the mean-radius section of the rotating blades of a single-stage axial-flow compressor at a blade Mach number of 0.35. A 24-cell pressure-transfer device used in obtaining the pressure data is described and the accuracy of these data is established by several independent methods.

Book Synopsis Velocity Distribution on Wing Sections of Arbitrary Shape in Compressible Potential Flow by : Lipman Bers
Download or read book Velocity Distribution on Wing Sections of Arbitrary Shape in Compressible Potential Flow written by Lipman Bers and published by . This book was released on 1946 with total page 630 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a first step toward the computation of the velocity distribution along a wing profile of arbitrary shape in a compressible fluid, the circulation-free flow around a symmetrical profile is treated under the assumption of the simplified density-speed relation due to Tchaplygin, Karman, and Tsien. The velocity distribution problem is reduced to a nonlinear integral equation which is solved by a fairly rapidly convergent iteration method. Numerical examples are given.

Book Synopsis Fairing Compositions for Aircraft Surfaces by : Philip S. Turner
Download or read book Fairing Compositions for Aircraft Surfaces written by Philip S. Turner and published by . This book was released on 1944 with total page 738 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fairing compositions are applied to aircraft surfaces, welds and junctions of metal plates, and rivet depressions to improve aerodynamic efficiency of the airplane at high speeds. A critical problem involved in their use is the maintenance of satisfactory adhesion to the metal under the extremes of temperature, weathering, and vibration encountered in service. This report describes tests which were developed to evaluate fairing compositions and presents the results of measurements with experimental mixtures of various plastics, fillers, and solvents. Important factors in obtaining satisfactory performance are low moisture absorption, a softening temperature no higher than the temperature of application, and a coefficient of thermal expansion at low temperatures equal to that of the metal.

Book Synopsis Bearing Strengths of Some Wrought-aluminum Alloys by : R. L. Moore
Download or read book Bearing Strengths of Some Wrought-aluminum Alloys written by R. L. Moore and published by . This book was released on 1943 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although a number of investigations of the bearing strength of aluminum alloys have been made, the problem remains one of considerable interest to the aircraft industry. For this reason it has seemed advisable to make additional tests of the commonly used aircraft alloys in an effort to establish a better basis for the selection of allowable bearing values. Current design practice does not recognize the effect of edge distance upon bearing strengths, and for this reason edge distance upon bearing strengths, and for this reason edge distance was one of the principal variables considered in this investigation. The increasing emphasis being placed upon permanent set limitations makes it essential that more information on bearing yield phenomena be obtained.
