Die im ersten Teil dieses Bandes versammelten Beiträge untersuchen Kontinuitäten und Brüche der frühneuzeitlichen europäischen Expansion, indem sie deren mittelalterlichen Voraussetzungen herausstellen und diese mit dem zeitgenössischen chinesischen, russischen und maghrebinisch-muslimischen Verständnis von Expansion vergleichen.
