Book excerpt: Methuselah, the recording angel of history, is correcting the mistakes in Exodus that the dyslexic and nearsighted scribe who copied the Bible first made. For instance, Moses’s mother takes an entire month to make the basket for the baby since Macy’s has not yet come into existence. The infant’s sister, Miriam, places the basket in the bulrushes of Nile to save the Hebrew baby from being killed. Pharaoh’s daughter, who has severe psoriasis, rescues the infant and raises him in the palace. When Moses is ten, he is taught how to box. At the age of sixteen, he learns how to drive a chariot. That gives him the inspiration to initiate chariot races when he’s seventeen—long before the Roman ones as depicted in Ben-Hur. Moses is placed in an anger management class that he hates. He becomes an unquestionably great leader but never fully controls his temper for the rest of his eventful life.

They develop the entrepreneurial idea to be partners in the creation of the largest mystery bookstore in the world. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gain a thorough understanding of the competing views on the historicity, chronology, and theological implications of the exodus. The biblical account of the Israelite exodus from Egypt is one of the most enduring narratives ever told and is a foundational event for several world religions. It resonates across cultures with its timeless themes of redemption and deliverance. It is also the only explanation the Bible gives for Israel's origin. Despite its unique legacy, many scholars regard the exodus as fictitious or a cultural memory that may not be a historical event. Even among those who believe the exodus happened, there is no consensus regarding its date. Five Views on the Exodus brings together experts in the fields of biblical studies, Egyptology, and archaeology to discuss and debate the most vexing questions about the exodus. Each offers their own view and constructive responses to other leading views: Early Date: The Exodus Took Place in the Fifteenth Century BC (Scott Stripling) Late Date: A Historical Exodus in the Thirteenth Century BC (James K. Hoffmeier) A Hyksos Levite Led Exodus in the Time of Ramesses II (Peter Feinman) Alternative Late Date: The Exodus Took Place in the Twelfth Century BC (Gary A. Rendsburg) The Exodus as Cultural Memory: A Transformation of Historical Events (Ronald Hendel) The Counterpoints series presents a comparison and critique of scholarly views on topics important to Christians that are both fair-minded and respectful of the biblical text. Each volume is a one-stop reference that allows readers to evaluate the different positions on a specific issue and form their own, educated opinion.

Book excerpt: Biography I wrote the fictional book of Methuselah with the purpose of showing why man brought the judgment of the flood upon himself. I decided to write this story after 30 years of thinking about Methuselah. When I first started to piece together what Methuselah saw, who influenced him and who he influenced I became in awe of his life. Nine out of ten names in the book of Methuselah are taken from three different books, the Bible, the Book of Jubilees and the Book of Enoch. I believe that the evil conditions found before the flood that brought the judgment of God upon the earth is manifesting itself in the world in which we live today. Judgment is coming, but God is longsuffering and has given us a way to escape the wrath to come just as he did before the great flood. Endorsements This is an amazing alternative to Harry Potter. Tom M. What an exciting movie this would make. Brad W. This is true history with added imagination. Aaron P. For anyone who believes in creation this is a must read. John T. Book Summary Find yourself seeing the world before the flood through the eyes of the oldest man that ever lived. Experience all of the patriarchs and their time slot in history. Watch how the world slips into the condition we find ourselves today. As it was in the day of Noah.

The author fictionalized the stories that her mother told her about her family’s life. The Kamensky family flees the destruction and wreckage they suffered in Kovno, Lithuania, to emigrate to the United States. Each child in the family grows up in the New World following different paths. History is incorporated in the story of their lives. Moishe changes his name to Morris and goes on to become a millionaire. He marries Annette, the last child of sixteen siblings, who has been raised by wealthy adoptive parents who rescued her from poverty. Morris loses his fortune in the Great Depression. His life comes to an end quite unexpectedly in a tragic way. Ida changes her name to Ada and remains an ‘old maid’ until Ben comes along. She gives birth to Reva and lives until the age of 104.

Book excerpt: This is the second volume in a new series, the Historical Commentary on the Old Testament, which devotes explicit attention to the history of interpretation of biblical tradition in all its stages, both within and without the Hebrew canon. As the term "Old Testament" indicates, the commentary stands in the Christian exegetical tradition. The team of contributors comprises scholars from all over the world and from any different churches and denominations. for Old Testament scholars, but also for ministers and other interested parties. The treatment of every pericope is preceded by a new translation and a section called "Essentials and Perspectives" in which the author summarizes the results of the exegesis in non-technical language. The primacy here is assigned to the final stage of the text. The summary should incite the user to consult the main body of the exegesis which is headed "Scholarly Exposition". scholarship

Goldstein and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2017-10-23 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The eighteen studies in this volume in honor of Moshe Bernstein on the occasion of his 70th birthday mostly engage with Jewish scriptural interpretation, the principal theme of Bernstein’s own research career as expressed in his collected essays, Reading and Re-Reading Scripture at Qumran (Brill, 2013). The essays develop a variety of aspects of scriptural interpretation. Although many of them are chiefly concerned with the Dead Sea Scrolls, the significant contribution of the volume as a whole is the way that even those studies are associated with others that consider the broader context of Jewish scriptural interpretation in late antiquity. As a result, a wider frame of reference for scriptural interpretation impinges upon how scripture was read and re-read in the scrolls from Qumran.

It may be subjected to two types of historical inquiry, the one focusing on Israel's national history, the other on the history of her traditions. The work concentrates on the second type of inquiry. In a comprehensive literary analysis, the narrative in the book of Exodus is compared not only with its parallels throughout the Bible, but also with the later, post-Biblical accounts found in the Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha and in the Hellenistic and Midrashic literatures.
