Download or read book Paul and Mark written by Oda Wischmeyer and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-08-20 with total page 655 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hypothesis that the Gospel of Mark was heavily influenced by Pauline theology and/or epistles was widespread in the nineteenth century, but fell out of favour for much of the twentieth century. In the last twenty years or so, however, this view has begun to attract renewed support, especially in English language scholarship. This major and important collection of essays by an international team of scholars seeks to move the discussion forward in a number of significant ways – tracing the history of the hypothesis from the nineteenth century to the modern day, searching for historical connections between these two early Christians, analysing and comparing the theology and christology of the Pauline epistles and the Gospel of Mark, and assessing their reception in later Christian texts. This major volume will be welcomed by those who are interested in the possible influence of the apostle to the Gentiles on the earliest Gospel.
Book Synopsis Euthalian Traditions by : Vemund Blomkvist
Download or read book Euthalian Traditions written by Vemund Blomkvist and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-10-30 with total page 404 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The ‛Euthalian apparatus’ is a corpus of auxiliary texts that summarize Acts and the New Testament Letters. The material is found in a great number of Greek biblical manuscripts. Some sources identify the author as ‛Euthalius, bishop of Sulci’, but almost nothing is known about this figure. Vemund Blomkvist’s study is based on the idea that the biblical text and the apparatus form a ‛system’, and that this system may be studied as a unity. The commentary shows that the different genres of the apparatus offer quite different paraphrases of the apostolic writings: The argumenta present a radicalized interpretation of Paul’s theology, while the chapter titles seem to be closer to the biblical text. Together with Prof. David Hellholm, Blomkvist has published a study on the meta-terminology of the apparatus (‛Paraenesis as an ancient genre-designation’, 2002), also included in the present volume.

Book Synopsis Hannah Arendt and Leo Strauss by : Peter Graf Kielmansegg
Download or read book Hannah Arendt and Leo Strauss written by Peter Graf Kielmansegg and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1997-06-13 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume on Hannah Arendt's and Leo Strauss' impact on American political science after 1933 contains essays presented at an international conference held at the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1991. The book explores the influence that Arendt's and Strauss' experiences of inter-war Germany had on their perception of democracy and their judgment of American liberal democracy. Although they represented different political attitudes, both thinkers interpreted the modern American political system as a response to totalitarianism. The contributors analyse how their émigré experience both influenced their American work and also had an impact on the formation of the discipline of political science in postwar Germany. Arendt's and Strauss' experiences thus aptly illustrate the transfer and transformation of political ideas in the World War II era.

Book Synopsis Brus, Muehl, Nitsch, Schwarzkogler by : Malcolm Green

Fined, gaoled, forced into exile, they were ignored by the art establishment of the day only to now be hailed as one of Europe's most outstanding contributions to post-war art. This anthology of their writings and documentation, brought together with the collaboration of the artists, Brus, Nitsch and Muehl, illustrates their intentions for the first time and shows how they established and explored a new territory for art.
