Download or read book Mercy and Justice written by and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2020-06-15 with total page 205 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The term mercy is currently omnipresent in Catholic debates. It dominates at events such as the recent Family Synods and the Jubilee Years. At the same time, it poses a significant problem for cases dealing with sexual abuse. Mercy calls to consider an individual's needs and this conflicts with justice necessitating equal treatment for everyone. Mercy applies to the fallible individual deserving of punishment, but who is saved by grace. This is most apparent in the Sacrament of Penance and other forms of penitence, forgiveness, and reconciliation where mercy both transcends and undermines justice. This problem, widely ignored in church teaching, is addressed by Dirk Ansorge, James Dallen, Judith Hahn, Atria A. Larson, Sandra Lassak, Michael A. Nobel, Rosel Oehmen-Vieregge, Heike Springhart, and Gunda Werner.

Book excerpt: “All of us are called to keep striving towards something greater than ourselves and our families, and every family must feel this constant impulse. Let us make this journey as families, let us keep walking together.” Pope Francis, Amoris Laetitia In his groundbreaking work on modern family life, Amoris Laetitia: On Love in the Family, Pope Francis continues to guide and lead the Church, calling us to be a sign of mercy and encouragement for families of all shapes and sizes. The Our Sunday Visitor edition includes exclusive reflection and discussion questions, to help Catholics grow in our understanding of this call, and act upon it. On Love in the Family guides us through: Scripture – what we can learn from Biblical families and relationships with God and each other Reality – the experiences and challenges we face in today’s world Tradition – essential aspects of Church teaching on marriage and families Love – what it means for all our relationships Ministry – Pope Francis offers pastoral perspectives for helping build strong families Spirituality – the expression of the Gospel message in our relationships

Download or read book Patrology written by Otto Bardenhewer and published by . This book was released on 1908 with total page 720 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Otto Bardenhewer's Patrology is certainly not the most recent work in the field. But sound judgment is never obsolete - Bardenhewer's concise, pellucid analysis of the church fathers is still valuable today, over a century after it was published. For generations, his work has been treasured by experts and novices alike for its penetrating insight and easy accessibility. Many fathers are given fuller treatment here than in any modern handbook. And today, every work cited in Bardenhewer's copious bibliographies has entered the public domain - what a boon to researchers of the information age!
Book Synopsis Religious Education in Thirteenth-Century England by : Andrew Reeves
Download or read book Religious Education in Thirteenth-Century England written by Andrew Reeves and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2015-06-02 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Religious Education in Thirteenth-Century England, Andrew Reeves examines how laypeople in a largely illiterate and oral culture learned the basic doctrines of the Christian religion. Although lay religious life is often assumed to have been a tissue of ignorance and superstition, this study shows basic religious training to have been broadly available to laity and clergy alike. Reeves examines the nature, availability and circulation of sermon manuscripts as well as guidebooks to Christian teachings written for both clergy and literate laypeople. He shows that under the direction of a vigorous and reforming episcopate and aided by the preaching of the friars, clergy had a readily available toolkit to instruct their lay flocks.
