Book Synopsis Exergy and Its Application by : Muhammad Aziz
Download or read book Exergy and Its Application written by Muhammad Aziz and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-12-04 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exergy has been defined as the maximum work that is useful, extracted from any process toward its equilibrium. Hence, it has a very strong connection with the second law of thermodynamics. In energy harvesting and management systems, the concept of exergy is very important because it represents the efficiency of the system. Exergy can be used as a tool to measure resource efficiency, as well as whole system sustainability. In addition, it can also be used to analyze and clarify the performance of each process; hence, methods of improvement can be determined. This book is the result of a very careful selection of chapters and contributors in the related field. The book is divided into three main sections according to the approaches and purpose of each proposed chapter. The first section is an introduction to the book. The second section, "Advanced energy conversions", describes several advanced technologies that are considered to have great potential in energy conversion and harvesting, and comprises three chapters focusing on photovoltaic/thermal systems with nanofluid, power-to-gas energy storage systems coupled with a combined cycle employing chemical looping combustion technology, and electromagnetic-based power generation. The third section focuses on the idea of "innovative energy management systems" toward high-quality energy systems. In this section, two different chapters describe the introduction of electric vehicles for demand-side energy management and the utilization of supercapacitors for very responsive energy storage in low-power modules. It is expected that this book will provide and enrich the state of the art in advanced energy systems, including energy conversion and management. All the chapters cover a broad range of disciplines, which are correlated in terms of the efforts toward efficient energy systems. In addition, the correlation between energy and exergy, and their understanding, are believed to be very important to improve energy efficiency and guarantee better energy quality.

Book Synopsis Synergy Development in Renewables Assisted Multi-carrier Systems by : Majid Amidpour
Download or read book Synergy Development in Renewables Assisted Multi-carrier Systems written by Majid Amidpour and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-01-15 with total page 514 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the different aspects of energy in human life especially expressing the advanced technologies in renewable energy resources. Due to the environmental pollution caused by fossil fuels and the non-permanent nature of these resources, the move towards the use of renewable energy has accelerated. In recent years, many attempts have been made to improve energy systems' performance by using multi-generation units, and these set-ups have been analyzed from the perspective of energy, exergy, economics, and environmental indicators. The book's primary goal is the effort to introduce new methods for assessing and upgrading the synergy. Therefore it examines sustainable practices such as water-energy-food nexus in poly-generation units, novel desalination systems, and smart greenhouses. One of the significant issues in these energy systems is the storage methods; for instance, carbon capture to reduce environmental pollution and the hydrogen store for the utilization in supplementary fuel. Also, robust optimization, uncertainty and risk-aware probabilistic analysis, energy management, and power supply of sensitive places such as oil rig platforms by renewables are examined.

Book Synopsis Exergetic Recovery Factors of Energy Resources by : Ali Akbar Eftekhari
Download or read book Exergetic Recovery Factors of Energy Resources written by Ali Akbar Eftekhari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-15 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Using classic thermodynamic principles as the point of departure, this book supplies the tools required to assess the technical viability of energy conversion processes. A new concept, viz. the exergetic (useful energy) recovery factor is introduced that measures net fraction of the extracted useful energy with respect to the initial exergy of the energy resource. With respect to conventional measures, the exergetic recovery factor can be negative, which indicates that more input exergy is required than extracted. A detailed description of the method will be given by applying it both to fossil fuel based energy resources and renewable energy resources. In addition a simplified procedure is given that gives the non-specialist reader the opportunity to judge both conventional and non-conventional energy resources. The case studies discussed comprise the conventional use of fossil fuel (oil gas and coal) the non-conventional use of fossil fuels (shale gas, underground coal gasification) and non-fossil fuel energy resources like geothermal, solar and wind. The book is an ideal guide for those engaged in the transition from fossil-based fuels to renewable and sustainable energy sources and who want to introduce technically viable new energy extraction technologies, which have a reduced carbon footprint.
