Book Synopsis Changing Health Care Systems and Rheumatic Disease by : Institute of Medicine
Download or read book Changing Health Care Systems and Rheumatic Disease written by Institute of Medicine and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 1997-02-09 with total page 253 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Market forces are driving a radical restructuring of health care delivery in the United States. At the same time, more and more people are living comparatively long lives with a variety of severe chronic health conditions. Many such people are concerned about the trend toward the creation of managed care systems because their need for frequent, often complex, medical services conflicts with managed care's desires to contain costs. The fear is that people with serious chronic disorders will be excluded from or underserved by the integrated health care delivery networks now emerging. Responding to a request from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases, this book reflects the results of a workshop that focused on the following questions: Does the model of managed care or an integrated delivery system influence the types of interventions provided to patients with chronic conditions and the clinical and health status outcomes resulting from those interventions? If so, are these effects quantitatively and clinically significant, as compared to the effects that other variables (e.g., income, education, ethnicity) have on patient outcomes? If the type of health care delivery system appears to be related to patient care and outcomes, can specific organizational, financial, or other variables be identified that account for the relationships? If not, what type of research should be pursued to provide the information needed about the relationship between types of health care systems and the processes and outcomes of care provided to people with serious chronic conditions?
Book Synopsis The Oxford Handbook of Clinical Psychology by : David H. Barlow
Download or read book The Oxford Handbook of Clinical Psychology written by David H. Barlow and published by Oxford Library of Psychology. This book was released on 2014 with total page 977 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The exponential growth of clinical psychology since the late 1960s can be measured in part by the extensive literature on the subject. The field has come to be defined as much by its many topics as its many voices. The Oxford Handbook of Clinical Psychology synthesizes these decades of literature in one volume. In addition to core sections on topics such as training, assessment, diagnosis, and intervention, the handbook includes chapters devoted to emerging issues in the clinical field, including heath care reforms, cultural factors, and technological innovations and challenges. Each chapter offers a review of the most pertinent literature, outlining issues and identifying possibilities for future research.
Book Synopsis EU Health Law & Policy by : Anniek de Ruijter
Download or read book EU Health Law & Policy written by Anniek de Ruijter and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2019-01-24 with total page 248 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whether there is a public health need for the containment and response to swine flu, or an individual need to access health care across the border for a hip operation to alleviate pain, the EU has an increasingly powerful role in the field of human health. Health law and policy is deeply tied into fundamental rights, bioethics and values, with important implications for individuals. However, it is also an expansive area of economic regulation, of social and state arrangements. The growing role of the EU in human health law and policy is contested, particularly as it has implications for the fundamental rights and values that are enshrined in national health law and policy. This book outlines, through case studies, how the expansion of EU power is taking place through law and policy, in both public health and health care. How is law and policy in the field of human health adopted, who are the institutional actors involved, and what is the impact of these developments for fundamental rights?

Book Synopsis The political economy of health care (Second Edition) by : Tudor Hart, Julian
Download or read book The political economy of health care (Second Edition) written by Tudor Hart, Julian and published by Policy Press. This book was released on 2010-09-01 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With a foreword by Tony Benn. Drawing on clinical experience dating from the birth of the NHS in 1948, Julian Tudor Hart, a politically active GP in a Welsh coal mining community, charts the progress of the NHS from its 19th century origins in workers' mutual aid societies, to its current forced return to the market. His starting point is a detailed analysis of how clinical decisions are made. He explores the changing social relationships in the NHS as a gift economy, how these may be affected by reducing care to commodity status, and the new directions they might take if the NHS resumed progress independently from the market. This edition of this bestselling book has been entirely rewritten with two new chapters, and includes new material on resistance to that world-wide process. The essential principle in the book is that patients need to develop as active citizens and co-producers of health gain in a humanising society and the author's aim is to promote it wherever people recognise that pursuit of profit may be a brake on rational progress.
