Book excerpt: This Thesis presents measurements of the decays B- → ?0c$ar{Λ}$-c, $ar{B0}$ → ?+c$ar{Λ}$-c, B- → ?+c$ar{Λ}$-cK-, and $ar{B0}$ → ?+c$ar{Λ}$-c-K0s based on 228 million (4S) → B$ar{B}$ decays collected with the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. The branching fraction of B- → ?+c$ar{Λ}$-cK- is measured to be (1.22 ± 0.16 ± 0.14 ± 0.63) x 10-3, and the branching fraction of B0→?+c$ar{Λ}$c-$ar{K0}$ is (0.40 ± 0.33 ± 0.05 ± 0.21) x 10-3. The product B(B- → ?0c$ar{Λ}$-c) x B( ?0c→ ?-?+) is measured to be (2.04± 0.59 ± 0.26 ± 0.53) x 10-5, and B($ar{B0}$→ ?+c$ar{Λ}$-c) x B (?+c → ?-?+?+) is (1.50 ± 1.07 ± 0.19 ± 0.39) x 10-5, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and the uncertainty from the branching fraction B(?+c → p+ K-?+), respectively.

Book excerpt: Using data collected in the region of the?(4S) resonance with the CLEO-II detector, they report on the first observation of exclusive decays of the B meson to final states with a charmed baryon. They have measured the branching fractions?(B− →?{sub c}{bar p}?−) = (0.62{sub -0.20}{sup +0.23} ± 0.11 ± 0.10) x 10−3 and?({bar B}° →?{sub c}+{bar p}?+?−) = (1.33{sub -0.42}{sup +0.46} ± 0.31 ± 0.21) x 10−3. In addition, they report upper limits for final states of the form {bar B} →?{sub c}+{bar p}(n?) and?{sub c}+{bar p}(n?)?° where (n?) denotes up to four charged pions.

Download or read book Theory Meets Experiment - Proceedings Of The Johns Hopkins Workshop On Current Problems In Particle Theory 18 written by Roberto Casalbuoni and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1995-06-29 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The workshop collected together theoreticians and experimentalists for a discussion about the most recent experiments and their impact on theoretical ideas. The discussion included the new data from LEP and SLD, the evidence for the top quark from Tevatron, the structure function measurements from HERA, and the searches for dark matter. Also, new projects for physics with large neutrino detectors and CP violation at e+e- factories were presented, and a survey of high energy astroparticle physics was included. Particular attention was paid to the interplay between microscopical and cosmological scales.
Download or read book B Decays written by Sheldon Stone and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994 with total page 676 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This 2nd edition is an extensive update of "B Decays?. The revisions are necessary because of the extensive amount of new data and new theoretical ideas. This book reviews what is known about b-quark decays and also looks at what can be learned in the future. The importance of this research area is increasing, as evidenced by the approval of the luminosity upgrade for CESR and the asymmetric B factories at SLAC and KEK, and the possibility of experiments at hadron colliders. The key experimental observations made thus far, measurement of the lifetimes of the different B species, B0-B0 mixing, the discovery of ?Penguin? mediated decays, and the extraction of the CKM matrix elements Vub and Vcb from semileptonic decays, as well as more mundane results, are described in great detail by the experimentalists who have been closely involved with making the measurements. Theoretical progress in understanding b-quark decays using HQET and lattice gauge techniques are described by theorists who have developed and used these techniques.Synthesizing the experimental and theoretical information, several articles discuss the implications for the ?Standard Model? and how further tests can be done using measurements of CP violation in the B system.

Book Synopsis Evidence for B Semileptonic Decays Into the Lambda_c Charm Baryon by :
Download or read book Evidence for B Semileptonic Decays Into the Lambda_c Charm Baryon written by and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We present the first evidence for B semileptonic decays into the charmed baryon [Lambda]{sub c} based on 420 fb−1 of data collected at the [Upsilon](4S) resonance with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II ee− storage rings. Events are tagged by fully reconstructing one of the B mesons in a hadronic decay mode. We measure the relative branching fraction [Beta]({bar B} 2![Lambda]{sub c}+ Xl−{bar {nu}}{sub {ell}})/[Beta]({bar B} 2![Lambda]{sub c}+/{bar {Lambda}}{sub c}−X) = (3.2 ± 0.9{sub stat.} ± 0.9{sub syst.})%. The significance of the signal including the systematic uncertainty is 4.9 standard deviations.

Book Synopsis Future Perspectives In High Energy Physics - Proceedings Of The 1990 Icfa Seminars by : N E Tyurin
Download or read book Future Perspectives In High Energy Physics - Proceedings Of The 1990 Icfa Seminars written by N E Tyurin and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1991-08-12 with total page 452 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is devoted to the quickly developing area of high intensity particle beam physics. Beam emittance growth, halo formation and chaotic particle motion are the main areas of research in the new intense particle accelerators. Knowledge of those phenomena is crucial for the design of particle accelerators with space-charge dominated beams. This important book provides a new, self-consistent description of high brightness particle beams with essentially nonlinear space-charge forces. The emphasis is on the proper matching of the beam with focusing and accelerating structures to suppress beam emittance growth and halo formation. The book will be useful for researchers and engineers dealing with space-charge dominated beams and for graduate and undergraduate students who are starting to work in this field.
Book Synopsis Heavy Flavours and High-Energy Collisions in the 1–100 TeV Range by : A. Ali

This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 626 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The present volume is based on the proceedings of the 6th and 7th INFN ELOISATRON project workshops, held at the Centro di Cultura Scientifica "Et tore Majorana" CCSEM, Erice-Trapani, Sicily, Italy, in the period June 10-27, 1988. The topics of the two workshops were, respectively: - Heavy Flavours: Status and Perspectives, and - Novel Features of High Energy Collisions in 1-100 TeV Region. They were attended by sixty-three physicists. The two workshops were followed by a meeting of the INFN ELOISATRON working group, also held at the CCSEM in the period October 7-15, 1988 in which twenty-five physicists participated. Since there was quite a bit of overlap among speakers, participants and the topics covered at the three meetings, we have decided to issue ajoint proceeding, with the first part entitled: Heavy Flavour Physics, and the second: High Energy Physics with 1-100 Te V Proton Beams. Some of the reports included in this volume have been contributed by the INFN ELOISATRON working group members. The first. part of these proceedings deals mostly with the presentation and inter pretation of results in t.he so-called fiavour physics sector. New results, which have become available in the last three years from experiments involving kaons, charmed and beauty hadrons, and searches for the still missing top quark at the present and fothcoming colliders are topics of major interest. here. The contributions in this part are organized in three categories: Experimental Results, Theoretical Interpretation, and Future Directions.
