Download or read book Collective Oscillations in a Plasma written by A. I. Akhiezer and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-07-26 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Series of Monographs in Natural Philosophy: Collective Oscillations in a Plasma, Volume 7 presents specific topics within the general field of radio waves propagation. This book contains five chapters that address the theory of linear oscillations in a plasma, the spectra of the eigen oscillations, and the mechanism of high-frequency heating. The opening chapters deal with the self-consistent fields; development of initial perturbation; dispersion permittivity tensor of a plasma in a magnetic field; effect of thermal motion of particles on low-frequency resonances; excitation of oscillations by modulated azimuthal currents; and cyclotron damping of low-frequency oscillations. The next chapters describe the nature of beam instability, the fluctuations in a free equilibrium plasma, and the current causing scattered waves. A study of the probability of scattering is presented. The concluding chapters are devoted to the scattering of electromagnetic waves in a plasma-beam system and the coefficient of reflection determination. The book can provide useful information to scientists, physicists, students, and researchers.

Book excerpt: The Collected Works of Irving Langmuir, Volume 5: Plasma and Oscillations is an 11-chapter text covers the extensive research study of Langmuir in the field of gas discharges. This book specifically tackles oscillations in ionized gases. The opening chapters describe the plasma-boundary phenomena and the use of a probe to separate the primary electron beam from the scattered electrons. The succeeding chapters deal with the collisions between electrons and gas molecules, oscillations in ionized gases, and the interaction of electron and positive ion space charges in cathode sheaths. These topics are followed by discussions on the general theory of the plasma of an arc and the properties of metastable atoms and electrons produced by resonance radiation in neon. The concluding chapter provides experimental evidence that the secondary electrons originate from bombardment by metastable atoms. This book is of value to physical chemists and physical chemistry researchers.

Book Synopsis On the Detection of Ion Oscillations in a Mercury Discharge by : Burton D. Fried
Download or read book On the Detection of Ion Oscillations in a Mercury Discharge written by Burton D. Fried and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The possibility of using a low pressure mercury discharge to detect ion plasma oscillations was examined. It was found that 1) collisions will not interfere with the phenomenon; 2) the current which maintains the discharge will cause the waves to grow (through the two-stream instability) in a time comparable with or less than the oscillation period. Aside from complications caused by the fact that the maximum growth occurs at rather short wavelengths, detection of these waves appears quite feasible. (Author).
Book Synopsis Excitation of Plasmons and Interband Transitions by Electrons by : Heinz Raether
Download or read book Excitation of Plasmons and Interband Transitions by Electrons written by Heinz Raether and published by Springer. This book was released on 2006-04-11 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This book treats the physics of Electron Loss Spectroscopy (ELS) with electrons of different energies. Its emphasis is on the collective excitations or plasmons in the bulk as well as on the surface, including interaction with the interband transitions. A discussion of the experimental and theoretical aspects helps to define the current state of the art. In addition to the general physics, data on the plasmons (energy, halfwidth, dispersion) obtained by different methods of observation (transmission and reflection with fast and slow electrons) have been collected as completely as possible. Mr. R. Manzke was helpful in gathering these figures. Related topics such as coupling of plasmons with light, Cerenkov radiation and waveguides, plasmons in electron gases of one and two dimensions together with some applications (microanalysis) are briefly described to round off the representation and to demonstrate the usefulness of the plasmon concept."--Preface
Book Synopsis Methods in Nonlinear Plasma Theory by : Ronald Davidson
Download or read book Methods in Nonlinear Plasma Theory written by Ronald Davidson and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods in Nonlinear Plasma Theory is from lectures given in graduate classes in both University of Maryland and University of California at Berkeley. To be able to understand fully the contents in this book, the reader is assumed to be a graduate student with background of classical physics and linear plasma waves and instabilities. This text is divided into two major parts. Part I deals with the coherent nonlinear phenomena, while Part II discusses the turbulent nonlinear phenomena. Six chapters comprise Part I, where basic equations and methods are described and discussed. Some of these methods are Vlasov-Maxwell equations and Korteweg-de Vries equation. Part II meanwhile has eight chapters that discuss frameworks and theories for weak plasma turbulence. Specifically, the weak turbulence theory is presented as it is applied to electromagnetic wave-particle interactions, nonlinear wave-wave interactions, and nonlinear wave-particle interactions. This book is a useful reference for students and researchers in the study of classical physics and plasma theory.

Book Synopsis INTRODUCTION TO UNMAGNETIZED PLASMAS by : CHANCHAL UBEROI
Download or read book INTRODUCTION TO UNMAGNETIZED PLASMAS written by CHANCHAL UBEROI and published by PHI Learning Pvt. Ltd.. This book was released on 1997-01-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This compact and well-organized text provides an introduction to plasma physics and shows the interaction of plasmas without any external magnetic fields. It deals with the concepts, processes, and characteristic features associated with plasmas. The interaction of magnetic fields on plasma is purposely excluded in this introductory text to help students grasp the basics first, which makes the understanding of the effects of the magnetic fields easier in the subsequent courses. The book begins with a review of the concepts of kinetic theory of gases, collision phenomena in ionized gases and motion of charged particles. It goes on to give a discussion on the characteristic properties of plasmas and conditions to be satisfied for an ionized gas to show plasma behaviour. In addition, the text covers such topics as transport processes, plasma oscillations, and plasma as a dielectric medium, as a charged fluid, and as a many-body system. Finally, it provides a systematic analysis of important instabilities for an unmagnetized plasma, as well as a discussion on the radiation processes. The organization is systematic and the style lucid, with more physical insight and only relevant mathematics. The text is well illustrated, and the References and Bibliography at the end of the book should stimulate those students who have a desire to study the subject deeper. It is a one-semester text and is designed for the undergraduate, postgraduate and research students of science and engineering who wish to choose plasma physics, astrophysics or space physics as their special areas of study.

Download or read book Cyclotron Waves in Plasma written by D. G. Lominadze and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 219 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cyclotron Waves in Plasma is a four-chapter text that covers the basic physical concepts of the theory of cyclotron waves and cyclotron instabilities, brought about by the existence of steady or alternating plasma currents flowing perpendicular to the magnetic field. This book considers first a wide range of questions associated with the linear theory of cyclotron oscillations in equilibrium plasmas and in electron plasmas in metals and semiconductors. The next chapter deals with the parametric excitation of electron cyclotron oscillations in plasma in an alternating electric field. A chapter focuses on plasma turbulence, which results from the development of cyclotron instabilities. The last chapter discusses pertinent experimental data concerning cyclotron waves in plasma. The book is intended for specialists in plasma physics and a number of related fields, including the physics of the ionosphere, solar wind and, metals, as well as for students and teachers who are specializing in these subjects.
