In the world of hypnosis, we know that parts work has been a central strategy or a central theme in most of our work.Hypnotists, NLP practitioners, counselors, and psychotherapists each do parts work in their own way. My observation is that they do it in three different ways and that the different ways rarely cross over. They don't necessarily recognize when each other is using parts work. The NLP practitioner looks at the others and says, "What kind of parts work is that? That is not what parts work is." Let me assure you that there are many sections to parts work. In this book, I will address all the different sections. I will share specific strategies for parts work, ego state theory, and internal family systems (IFS). I have a counseling, Ericksonian, and indirect hypnosis background. If you have a counseling or psychotherapy background, you will recognize the idea of parts work, ego state theory, and IFS as being a component of some of the work you have already done. You will be able to increase your skills, so when you have a client in your office, you can use the concepts from this book to directly impact them. The best part, though, is that you are going to personally benefit from the material in this book. I want you to learn and understand the ideas of parts therapy and know the techniques. I also want you to practice this in self-hypnosis or in your quiet time. I want you to apply the techniques that I will be sharing with you to your own life first. This means that you can work honestly with your clients and passionately share with them. That is a great position to be in when working with clients.
