Download or read book Environmental Education and Advocacy written by Edward A. Johnson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-03-03 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Environmental education has often blurred the distinction between ecological science and environmental advocacy. Growing public awareness of environmental problems and desire for action may be contributing to this blurring. There is a need to clarify the distinction between the role of ecological science and the role of social and political values for the environment within environmental education. This book addresses this need by examining the changing perspectives of ecology in education and the changing perspectives of education in environmental education. Guidelines are provided for assessing the science and education perspectives within environmental education, along with suggested frameworks for development of programs and resources that integrate current science, education and action. This book will be of interest to environmental educators, ecologists interested in environmental education, and curriculum and resource developers.

Book Synopsis Environmental Education Materials by : Deborah Simmons
Download or read book Environmental Education Materials written by Deborah Simmons and published by North Amer Assn for Environmental. This book was released on 1996 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These guidelines are a set of recommendations for developing and selecting environmental education materials with the aim of helping developers of activity guides, lesson plans, and other instructional materials produce high quality products and providing educators with a tool to evaluate the wide array of available education materials. They offer a way to judge the relative merit of different materials, a standard to aim for in developing new materials, and a set of ideas about what a well-rounded environmental education curriculum might be like. The guidelines point out six key characteristics of high quality environmental education materials, including fairness and accuracy, depth, emphasis on skill building, action orientation, instructional soundness, and usability. For each of these characteristics there are listed some guidelines for environmental education materials to follow. Each guideline is accompanied by several indicators listed under the heading "What to Look For". These indicators suggest ways of gauging whether the materials being evaluated or developed follow the guidelines. (JRH)
