Students with different learning performances were given instruction in different levels of multimedia enrichment, including: audio visual, audio aided, printed multicolour and printed plain instructional materials. Multiple choices and matching item questions were used to assess their performance in pre and post treatment situations. The results were compared with student’s academic performance in national examination. Correlation analysis was used to assess the strength and direction of the linear relationship between performance in different multimedia enrichment levels and student’s potentials. It was revealed that there was a strong and positive correlation between performance in audio visual and audio aided and student’s academic potentials but there was no significant correlation between performance in both printed modes and academic performances. Also, boys scored higher than girls in three instructional modes namely: audio aided printed multicolour, and printed plain, while girls scored higher only in the audio visual mode. The study recommends that instructional materials should be prepared in multimedia mode so as to benefit both normal and disabled students. The Ministry of Education and Vocational Training should amend school curriculum so as to accommodate multimedia technology as well as training of teachers on multimedia technology.

Limited knowledge and research exists concerning the relationship between synchronous online learning and its influence on student learning styles. the research questions guiding this study were (a) How are students' learning styles affected by synchronous online learning environments? (b) What are the learning style preferences before the online class? (c) What are their learning styles after the online classes? (d) Do adults change their learning styles when confronted with online synchronous learning? the research questions were answered using the Soloman-Felder learning style assessment. Data were collected from 20 respondents, all graduate students in a synchronous online course of study. A preexisting online learning style questionnaire was used to test and measure the participants' learning styles. There were several significant findings in the study. First, the research showed that levels of education, gender, or ethnicity did not influence adults' preferred learning style. Second, students with prior online learning experience appeared to prefer intuitive styles as opposed to sensing styles. Third, the data from this study showed that 90% (n = 18) of the research participants did in fact alter their learning styles during the duration of the course, but by the end of the course these students had reverted back to their original learning style. Future research should look at the impact of technology on adult learners and their commitment and motivation to learning. Additionally, future research should explore whether preferred learning style has any relationship to adults' success in learning.

This was one conclusion from an exploratory study which examined participants' reports of their use of expert, formal authority, personal model, facilitator , and delegator teaching styles; their students' use of competitive, collaborative, avoidant, participant, dependent , and independent student learning styles; and, the strategies they use to connect teaching styles and student learning styles in their online courses. This study used Grasha's (1996) Integrated Model of Teaching and Learning Styles as the conceptual framework, and employed a mixed-methods research design. Primary, quantitative data were gathered from a Web-based survey completed by 113 instructors who taught fully online courses at 41 community colleges in nine U.S. states. Supporting, qualitative data were collected from individual telephone interviews with 12 survey respondents who volunteered for this phase of the study. A number of studies have used Grasha's model to examine teacher-student interactions in face-to-face college classrooms, but very few have employed it in studies of online college courses, especially at the community college level. This study's four conclusions were: (1) There is a discernable difference between community college online instructors' reports that students should think and work independently, and their reports of using a blend of teaching styles that maintain student dependence on the instructor; (2) Faculty are reinterpreting the traditional strategies of lectures, discussions, and student participation for the online environment, instead of seeking alternative instructional strategies; (3) Community college online instructors place more emphasis on their teaching methods and techniques, than on their students' learning styles and strategies; and, (4) The Integrated Model of Teaching and Learning Styles, while suitable for this exploratory study, did not sufficiently address both how teaching styles and student learning styles are used in an online environment. Recommendations included developing a new instrument designed to study teaching styles and student learning styles in online courses, and creating a comprehensive, professional development curriculum for community college online faculty that emphasizes research-based models and assessment tools related to teaching and learning styles in the online classroom.

The present study contributes to research dedicated to explaining or predicting phenomena related to distance education, and has four objectives: (1) to identify specific social and technological factors affecting online students' behavior of using technology, (2) to conceptualize a theoretical model to better represent the relationships among the salient factors, (3) to examine how the elements in the theoretical model influence students' learning perceptions and satisfaction in the distance education program, and (4) to compare the proposed model with prior work to model and explain online behavior and satisfaction. For the purpose of advancing understanding of the roles of social and technological factors in a distance learning environment, this study proposed a unified theoretical model based upon four attitude-behavior models, the Theory of Reasoned Action (TRA), the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB), and the decomposed TPB. By reviewing and identifying salient factors in each model, this study attempts to construct a measurable Unified Model of Technology Appropriation (UMTA) integrating the identified factors so as to best overcome the limitations of each model. The study investigated a distance education program providing both a physical and virtual place to support enrolled students in a Midwest state university to learn knowledge and skills by doing. Instructional materials and supports were delivered through a network-based learning system as well as other communication tools. Data collection included self-report questionnaires and computer-recorded system usage data. Among the statistically significant paths found in UMTA, subjective norm (instructor/mentor/peer influence) had the strongest relationship to students' technology appropriation behavior, while perceived behavioral control (self-efficacy and technology/resource facilitating conditions) had the strongest impact on students' satisfaction. These findings have important implications for system designers, online educators, and distance education program managers. In order to reduce students' frustration, not only online instructors but also program managers need to provide and assure the availability of external supports including mentoring and technical supports. System designers, on the other hand, have to enhance the system's ease of use through good design and by providing clear instructions. Results of the present study should help to better manage online courses by focusing attention on social influences and control factors in a distance education program.

Specifically students were given an online survey asking students to identify their learning styles, how they learn, their satisfaction level, and perception of success in online learning. Relationships were explored between students identifying their learning styles and their knowledge of how they learn and satisfaction and success in online learning. The research focused on a group of online learners from a north Texas high school. In addition to the online survey, participants completed the Kolb Learning Style Inventory (LSI) to identify their learning styles. Results from the online survey and LSI were combined with data obtained from the cooperating school district for analysis. Satisfaction was measured based on student responses to survey questions, and success was measured using semester grades. This study added to the body of knowledge related to K-12 online learning and students abilities to identify and understand learning styles. It showed that students of all learning styles can be successful in online learning. The majority of students were both successful and satisfied making it difficult to generalize the finding to a larger population. There was not a correlation between the ability to identify learning styles and success or a correlation between correctly identifying learning styles and satisfaction in online learning with this population. In addition to adding to the body of knowledge, this study raised new questions for further study related to K-12 online learning. Generalizations can be made, but further studies with larger more heterogeneous populations are needed to validate these findings.

As universities and students are increasingly drawn to the convenience of online education, researchers continue to find ways to improve eLearning environments. Despite these efforts, students often struggle to succeed in online classes, and attrition rates for eLearning courses range 10% to 20% higher than traditional courses. While researchers have investigated issues of attrition in online classes as well as student identity and academic social support, little research has examined how non-academic social support might promote student identities and enhance student success. Embracing a communicative perspective to social support, I developed a model to measure perceived levels of non-academic social support among students enrolled in online courses. Using an online survey of 267 online students, I gathered data on eight types of non-academic social support, perceived levels of student identity, and measures of academic success. Academic success was measured on scales of self-reported student GPA and expected academic performance. After conducting statistical analysis of the correlation between various variables comprising non-academic social support, measures of student identity, and indicators of student success, I found no statistically significant correlation between non-academic social support and student identity as well as no statistically significant correlation between non-academic social support and self-reported student GPA. However, statistically significant correlations were discovered between measures of non-academic social support and expected academic performance. While these findings suggest non-academic social support is not associated with student identity, the findings do indicate non-academic social support can promote students' perceived success in eLearning courses. Book excerpt: In order to explain and determine the attitudes and factors affecting perceptions of students to adopt and use Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) as a tool in complementing and supplementing face-to-face learning, this research combined two theoretical models: Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), one of the more popular acceptance models, and Learning Style Inventory (LSI). The Technology Acceptance Model is one of the models used to study the problem of low adoption or underutilization of technology while learning styles model adopted in order to determines the preferred learning styles for the users of VLE. This study investigates students at Tripoli University, the main University in Libya to understand their perceptions of using VLE with respect to their learning styles. The study used a quantitative descriptive research design method by using a survey as the primary means of data collection. Empirical data were collected from different departments and schools (n=302) to examine the impact of specialisation construct. The study proposed a conceptual model which includes external variables derived from previous research, the core TAM model combined with learning style as an independent variable in order to determine the impact of learning styles on the perception of students towards VLE use. A combination of t tests, ANOVAs, chi-squares, and Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficients was used to analyse the data by using two techniques: single and multiple regressions. Findings from the quantitative data revealed that, regardless of gender or learning styles impacts, the participants have a strong positive behavioural intention to use VLE tools in their existing learning environment. The results of this study implied that gender and learning styles did not play a significant role in determining perceptions and usage of VLE. However, the other defined independent variables had significant effects on the model and contributed to the explanation of the model except for example, job relevance, complexity factors. The interesting result found in this study was the fact that the specialisation constructs shows that there is a different level of VLE use depending on the student's specialisation, namely that natural and formal science students showed the most interest in using the new technology. Another interesting outcome found that students' perceived ease of use demonstrated a more consistent influence compared to usefulness in determining the usage of VLE. This finding is new and is inconsistent with most previous research. Although, the results show that there is no significant impact of learning styles on the research model, the results, however, show learning styles can play a very important role as a moderating factor between beliefs constructs and external variables. The results of the coefficients were not the same for each learning style, which may indicate that different learning styles moderate the relationships between variables involved in the research model (VLEAM). The people with the highest coefficients were those with the assimilator style compared to other learning styles, followed by divergent/accommodator convergers. This means that assimilators are the best target learners for VLE. However, the results show that female assimilators have more negative impact on PU, meaning that they regard VLE as being less useful. The parameters in the model may be altered for each learning style to get the maximum benefit from the model. From a theoretical and methodological perspective, it was found that TAM being a simple psychological model was not good enough to explain broader systems such as VLE and subsequently has not fully explained students' perceptions towards use. In the light of the findings, the study suggested that a study of adoption and acceptance technology should move from using a simple psychological TAM model to another form that is able to measure IS that contains complex functions. The outcomes of the study are beneficial to decision makers at the university level when making decisions about technologies that affect the teaching and learning process as well as assisting in institutional decision in regards to where to commit resources (technology, monetary, labour, etc.) to implement and maintain those systems.

Learning style inventory was used as an instrument for data collection which was centered on isometric projection. The outcome of the treatments was analyzed using Multiple Regression and Pearson Product Moment Correlation Coefficient. The findings revealed that kinesthetic learners scored higher in the isometric projection test conducted followed by visual learners and auditory learners came last. Hypothetically, the result shows a significant difference in the three learning styles (visual, auditory, and kinesthetic). However, teachers' poor understanding of students' learning styles seems to be a source of concern to many education experts in Nigeria. Hence, the study recommends teachers' proper understanding and consideration of students' visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles in a traditional learning environment in senior secondary schools in Nigeria.

The researcher investigated differences between the learning styles, as determined by the Kolb Learning Style Inventory, of students in courses taught face-to-face and students in matched courses that were taught asynchronously online. The data from this investigation was also examined to determine if a relationship exists between the online student's learning style and the student's engagement in the online course. For purposes of this study, this level of engagement was defined as the number of accesses a student had per area as displayed on the Blackboard course statistics page. Finally, the data from this investigation were used to determine if gender was a factor in the relationship between learning style of online students and the student's engagement in the online course. A quantitative research design was employed to address the research questions. Data were collected using the Kolb LSI IIa and the Kolb LSI 3, demographic data was gathered from university records, and learner engagement statistics were gathered from the course management system Blackboard. One-way MANOVA was used to analyze the 168 Kolb inventories that were completed by this sample. It was concluded from the analysis that there was a significant difference in the learning style of the online student and the student enrolled in the face-to-face course. Sixty-one online students completed the Kolb LSI 3. There were no significant correlations identified between the Kolb learning modes of the online student and the student's level of engagement as measured by the statistics for the number of accesses to the four areas of Blackboard. However, when the data set was divided by gender significant differences were identified for male students between the Kolb learning modes and the student's level of engagement, but no significant differences were identified for the female students.
