Book excerpt: Researchers' attention has been drawn to blended learning (BL) methodologies during the past ten years because of their emphasis on combining traditional face-to-face learning with the use of technology. Numerous studies that study the effects of BL on teaching and learning have been undertaken, and many researchers have investigated the usefulness of BL. There hasn't yet been a case study that assesses how well BL taught Saudi Arabian students’ English medical terms. The goal of the study was to evaluate the impact of BL on an experimental group of students who were using WhatsApp and Jazan Jump Blackboard to expand their vocabulary as they prepared to pursue careers in medicine. Their learning was contrasted with that of the control group. Group, which only used face-to-face methods and one piece of technology (Blackboard). The current study looked at how various BL approaches affected attitudes, feelings of anxiety, and self-efficacy in both the controlled and experimental groups, as well as student engagement and self-efficacy. The study looked at how English medical terminology teachers behaved in relation to their teaching experience, prior usage of platforms like WhatsApp and Jazan Jump Blackboard, preferred teaching strategies, attitudes towards technology, constructivist beliefs, and understanding of digital self-efficacy. Four sources were used in the current study to gather data: interviews, questionnaires, and pre- and post-tests. Pre- and post-test results showed that combining in-person instruction with WhatsApp and Jazan Jump Blackboard can have a positive effect on student progress. Based on the findings of the experimental group, survey data, and data analysis, it was revealed that instructional, cognitive, and social presence in a hybrid setting had a beneficial impact on student engagement. Compared to medical students in a typical classroom, students who used WhatsApp and Jazan Jump were generally more capable, self-regulated, and suffered mild anxiety. Concerning WhatsApp and Jazan Jump, teachers observed low to moderate proficiency levels. Positive learning outcomes for students from BL with various electronic tools can inspire instructors with all levels of technological proficiency to adopt innovative learning techniques and technology into the classroom.

The importance of STEM education is well documented in the literature; however, many educators and researchers have expressed major concern regarding the present state of STEM education. To improve this situation, new pedagogies, such as blended learning have been proposed and researched. The last decade has seen an increase in the use of blended learning to support student learning and enhance engagement in STEM education; however, the effect of blended learning on teaching and learning remains unclear and often are mixed. The extant research has addressed the benefits and effectiveness of blended learning, as well as the impact of blended learning on academic performance, however, the findings suggest a lack of agreement on the nature of the relationship between blended learning and academic performance. Since the implementations of blended learning have become ubiquitous, it is imperative to understand their impact, especially on students' learning outcomes and achievement. To address these gaps in the literature, this dissertation, composed of three empirical studies, examines the relationship between blended learning and academic performance in a sample of pre-university CEGEP science students. Study 1 investigates the link between blended learning and academic performance-using a low-intensity blended context as a point of reference for the follow-on studies (Studies 2 and 3) in this multi-study dissertation. Study 2 examines the impact of frequent two-stage quizzes and peer formative feedback in blended learning situations on performance. Whereas study 3 examines the impact of asynchronous online video instructions with online homework & instant feedback in blended learning situations on performance. This research contributes to the literature by expanding on the understanding of how blended learning is linked to academic performance. The dissertation concludes with a discussion of the implications as well as avenues for future research"--

Blended collaborative learning increases the ability to understand and correctly recognize the meanings of words in eighth grade students. 2. Blended collaborative learning increases the ability of eighth grade students to comprehend and identify appropriate vocabulary to complete incomplete texts. 3. Blended collaborative learning increases the ability of eighth grade students to understand reading English texts. Among the statistical population of eighth grade male students in Birjand in the academic year 2021 which numbered 637 people, 30 students were purposefully divided into two experimental and control groups using the available sampling method. After taking the Oxford Placement Test and purposeful appointment of learners in experimental and control groups, a pre-test was taken. Students in both groups were trained in English text comprehension techniques and skills for 4 weeks. The difference was that the students in the control group were trained individually in blended method (n=15) and the students in the experimental group were trained in blended collaborative method (n=15). Two standard research tools were used to collect the data of this study. The first research tool was the concept comprehension test to determine students’ level of concept comprehension ability (OPT). The second research tool was a teacher-made test that was used as a pre-test, post-test and delayed post-test.

Fifty-one K-12 teachers who utilized blended learning participated in this study. Data was collected through the use of an online survey, open-ended questions, as well as through face-to-face interviews with 8 participants. The study identified (1) teachers' perceptions related to the impact of blended learning on student learning; (2) teachers' perceptions related to the impact of blended learning on teaching practices; and (3) teachers' perceptions related to their preparedness to teach in a blended learning environment. The results suggested that the participating teachers agreed that blended learning positively impacts student engagement, focus and attention, student motivation, individualized instruction, and opportunities for students to collaborate. Furthermore, the results of this study also revealed that teacher participants believed that blended learning positively influenced their teaching practices with opportunities to individualize and differentiate instruction, student feedback, technology enhanced lessons, time in planning lessons, and opportunities to monitor and adjust student learning. This study also acknowledged that support from building leadership, opportunities to collaborate with peers, and on-going and systematic professional development affected the success of students in a blended learning environment. The findings from this research revealed that teachers recognized a strong utility of blended learning as an instructional strategy, primarily in providing insight into student learning, teaching practices, and professional development.
