Book excerpt: Cette étude s'intéresse à l'utilisation de matériel de rééducation orthophonique avec des enfants infirmes moteurs cérébraux (IMC). Lorsque l'enfant IMC est en mesure d'accéder à l'écrit, on constate fréquemment des difficultés, notamment dues à la présence de troubles neurovisuels associés. La maîtrise du langage écrit s'avère cependant importante. Actuellement, les orthophonistes notent qu'il existe peu de matériel permettant un travail de rééducation au niveau du langage écrit, qui soit adapté aux difficultés visuo-spatiales et motrices de ces enfants. C'est pourquoi il nous a semblé intéressant d'élaborer un matériel de rééducation répondant aux attentes des professionnels. Nous avons ainsi posé l'hypothèse que l'utilisation d'un jeu adapté aux difficultés des enfants IMC paraît bénéfique, aux yeux des professionnels, et aux yeux des patients eux-mêmes.La passation d'un test orthophonique et la consultation des dossiers de six enfants diagnostiqués infirmes moteurs cérébraux nous ont permis d'objectiver les difficultés typiques de lecture retrouvées dans le cadre de ce handicap. Nous avons présenté le matériel élaboré à des orthophonistes, des ergothérapeutes et une orthoptiste. Nous avons ainsi recueilli leurs observations, analyses et propositions de modifications, étayées par leur expérience au quotidien auprès d'enfants IMC. Nous l'avons également présenté aux enfants de notre population d'étude, afin d'établir l'accueil réservé à notre jeu sur le terrain. Nos résultats confirment notre hypothèse. En effet, d'après les entretiens réalisés et les réponses obtenues aux questionnaires remplis par les personnes rencontrées, il apparaît qu'un tel matériel présente un certain intérêt. Nous avons pu, d'autre part, établir les modifications à y apporter afin d'en donner une version plus cohérente, qui réponde mieux aux attentes des professionnels.

La première partie de ce mémoire traite de la déficience motrice, en la replaçant dans un contexte général. D'après la définition que donne Tardieu, l'Infirmité Motrice Cérébrale est la conséquence de lésion au cerveau avant, autour ou peu après la naissance, qui devient la cause de perturbations du contrôle moteur sur la posture et les mouvements du corps, à des degrés divers. Suivant l'étendue de leur lésion, les enfants présentent une quadriplégie, une diplégie, une hémiplégie... La spasticité, l'athétose et l'ataxie sont des troubles neuro-moteurs qui affectent les mouvements des membres et sont à l'origine d'une déficience motrice. Celle-ci place la personne qui en est atteinte en situation de handicap. Son autonomie étant soit retardée, soit impossible. Comment cette situation est-elle appréhendée par la famille? Comment s'établissent les premiers échanges, puis la communication? Comment se développe le langage des enfants IMC ? Les conséquences de l'Infirmité Motrice Cérébrale touchent surtout le versant expressif du langage: troubles de la parole (dysarthrie), troubles pneumo-phoniques, dyspraxies... Le développement du langage est ensuite particulier à chaque enfant. Je me suis intéressée dans la deuxième partie à la rééducation et notamment sur ce que les différents professionnels intervenant auprès de l'enfant pouvaient lui proposer, à lui et à sa famille. Travail éducatif, rééducatif, thérapeutique, portant sur la motricité, sur les fonctions cognitives, le langage, l'autonomie, tout cela se conçoit en équipe et après une évaluation globale de l'enfant. En orthophonie, deux approches ont été proposées aux enfants, elles allient des gestes, des massages, des traces de couleur, du rythme, des pictogrammes. .. pour soutenir et favoriser le langage. Les effets sont significatifs.

For example, decisions such as whether a child should attend a funeral or return to school are examined. The Bereaved Child contains over 550 citations in author alphabetized and abstracted form. Only English-written books and periodicals are represented. A quick glance will reveal that the bulk of the material is post-1960. This reflects the recency of in terest and study in the area of childhood bereavement. Literature across multiple disciplines was scanned and included. Psychology, medicine, social work, and education are heavily represented, while no theological, literary, or popular sources were examined.
