Download or read book Over the Top written by Adrian Flanagan and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2018-03-08 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Only one person has ever sailed vertically around the world - Adrian Flanagan. Sailing horizontally is difficult enough, crossing thousands of miles of ocean only to get near land at the Capes and battle treacherous currents. However, hundreds of sailors have still managed it. Adrian became obsessed with the idea of sailing vertically around the world as a boy, before he even knew whether it was possible. Thirty years later he managed it. This is his own account of his remarkable adventure. It was an epic challenge, sailing through the perilous waters around Cape Horn and across the remote, hostile stretch of the Russian Arctic. He survived being washed overboard, capsizing, a close encounter with pirates, and also managed to treat not one but two dislocated wrists - all of this alone, a thousand miles or more from anyone who could help him complete his quest. It wasn't all high drama, however. Adrian experienced moments of awe-inspiring beauty - being accompanied by a pod of whales, and swimming with dolphins. This is a timeless and unique story, pacily written with a sense of humour, but which captures the zeal and determination required to accomplish something nobody else has ever done before.

Book Synopsis The Second Advocate by : Harry Seipel
Download or read book The Second Advocate written by Harry Seipel and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-11 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The Second Advocate," a work of fiction relates the story of a world engulfed in anarchy and hatred in the year 2041. The story begins in 1995 with the death of Paul Davies, a United States Marine General killed in Bosina. Paul has been chosen by the Creator to become the Second Advocate sent to Earth, to determine whether humanity is capable of joining the nations of the universe or should be destroyed to protect the common good. Forty-six years pass as Paul is prepared for his return by the greatest collection of minds in history to become an omniscient force to alter the path mankind has chosen that will lead to its destruction. His spirit is united with the body of Prince Abdual Aziz who was conceived at the moment of Paul's death in preparation for his return. The world is a different place in the year 2041. The United States has separated into three provinces, racially divided but still united under a central administration for the common good. Because of previous nuclear conflicts, the world is now divided into three political and military alliances. Islamic nations have joined into an alliance to eliminate all who do not believe as they do and are at war with nations comprising a European alliance. As Prince Aziz, Paul exerts his vast knowledge to gain the confidence of the Arab world, with the exception of Iran, Iraq, and Libya. He successfully confronts the American President and negotiates the removal of the American Fleet from the Mediterranean Sea by promising among other things to staunch the ongoing terrorist activities upon American interests. Detractors and would-be assassins of Prince Aziz find themselves eradicated either by military force or divine intervention. The Prince gradually reveals his identity as the Messenger of God, the Chosen One. While Islamic Countries readily accept his identity, other cultures require proof positive that he has divine guidance. A meteor shower over major cities at the Prince's command reinforces his claim. When the nation of India will not agree to Nuclear disarmament and join the other major alliances, their military bases are destroyed by earthquakes and buried deep in desert sands. Prince Aziz is ultimately successful at uniting the world and communicating the message that aggression and hate do not fit into the greater plan of the universe. A world Congress of Nations is formed to eradicate famine and guarantee the peaceful coexistence of nations. The writing combines elements of fantasy, religion, world culture, and politics and may be interpreted as a work of entertainment or creative social commentary. It may be of interest to a reader who appreciates fiction that embraces the supernatural. It is a timely work given the current state of world affairs and the threat of terrorism originating from the Middle East. This is a work of fiction. Names, characters, places and incidents are either the product of the Authors imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, events, or locales is entirely coincidental.
