Download or read book Willie’S World written by Tom Smith and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2015-11-25 with total page 379 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Willies World is a collection of Christian puppet skits written to encourage young boys and girls to carry Gods Word in their hearts. By doing so, they will be better equipped to face those trials and temptations that will surely come their way. Each week Willie manages to find himself in one sort of dilemma or another. And, also each week, Gods Word comes to the rescue. Whether it be through Willies Grandpa, who shares with Willie the true meaning of helping others, or through the delightful Miss Pickles, who teaches her class the importance of always telling the truth. Week after week Willie learns (usually the hard way) that by applying the principles found in the Bible, a fella can spare himself a whole lot of trouble. Throughout these skits, children will be taught valuable lessons to help strengthen their faith and better prepare them for lifes long, and often difficult, journey. Lessons about trust, obedience, responsibility, forgiveness and honoring their mothers and fathers. Lessons about Gods love for them and lessons about how they can live lives that will be pleasing to Him. This can best be accomplished when making those life decisions in the light of His Word.
Book Synopsis As Mirrors Are Lonely by : Peter Guy
Download or read book As Mirrors Are Lonely written by Peter Guy and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2014-10-16 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Irish novel has demonstrated an ability to sample other forms and influences, to improvise and evolve in the light of changing circumstances. Peter Guy’s new study helps investigate the way in which Irish writers since the sixties have responded to these influences, re-examining their work through the theory of the French theorist Jacques Lacan. Focusing on the novelists John McGahern, Brian Moore and John Broderick in a simultaneous reading, and applying a psychoanalytical theory which centers in particular on gender and family relations, this new study also covers a number of other complex issues, issues which span the claustrophobic and repressive atmosphere of the 1950s to the secular ahistorical Ireland of today.
Book Synopsis A Life Worth Living by : Marvin Harvey
Download or read book A Life Worth Living written by Marvin Harvey and published by Walter Harvey. This book was released on 2014-11-24 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Marvin Earl Harvey was born on September 26, 1926 to poor sharecropper parents. A LIFE WORTH LIVING is the story of a depression-era country boy ‘who done good’. It is also the tale of the providence of God and how the great Creator wants to be a part of every life. Marvin met God at an early age and this chance meeting in an old one room Baptist church changed his world. He envisioned a better life for himself and his future family. He had no idea how to accomplish this but because of his faith as an eight-year-old boy, he fulfilled all of his dreams. It only took two prayers and six miracles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Yes, but later, when they speak of her, what do they say?” I asked. “Oh hell, I don’t know. I just fill the glasses. Man, this is the kind of talk that makes a barkeep like me goofy. Mostly, I keep the customers on the other side of the counter, but she, she can’t be stopped – comes over the top and just rips your spleen.” “Fill the glasses. Mop the bar. You probably know, they’re closing this place next month, and I’m out of work with no prospects, because the urban renewal wrecking ball is knocking down, not just this joint, but the whole Avenue, and, and all I’m doing is worrying what’s going to happen to Abby, but damn it, I can’t help it, this place connect her to Whitey, and all the rest of us to her.” “Ahhh ...” He let out a deep sigh, and then leaned over the bar and used his big whisper. “Ah, but this woman did it all ... And so they ... They tell of the things she did for Whitey. They tell of her exploits, of her saving his life, and her avenging his death – of her thrusting that heavy auger. And they make up things, sensitive, personal things – lavender baths, rose petal pillows – things no one could possibly know, but we all listen and nod our approval. And now the wrecking ball is coming. And now they ask what will happen ...” “Look, that’s her, she comes now. Just look at her. My, oh my,” he slowly shakes his head. “Ah, I’ll tell you what they, they ... they tell of her honor, grace, and beauty. See how she moves, how she takes that stool.” He stood to his full height and hurried down the counter to pour her drinks. I sipped mine, listening, waiting ....
Book Synopsis Listen to the Blues! by : James E. Perone
Download or read book Listen to the Blues! written by James E. Perone and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2019-02-15 with total page 258 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Listen to the Blues! Exploring A Musical Genre provides an overview of this distinctly American musical genre for fans of the blues and curious readers alike, with a focus on 50 must-hear artists, albums, and subgenres. Unlike other books on the blues, which tend to focus on musician biographies, Listen to the Blues! devotes time to the compositions, recordings, and musical legacies of blues musicians from the early 20th century to the present. Although the author references musical structure, harmony, form, and other musical concepts, the volume avoids technical language; therefore, it is a volume that should be of interest to the casual blues fan, to students of blues music and its history, and to more serious blues fans. The chapters on the impact of the blues on popular culture and the legacy of the blues also put the genre in a broader historical context than what is found in many books on the blues. The book opens with a background chapter that provides an overview of the history and structure of blues music. A substantial, encyclopedic chapter that focuses on 50 must-hear blues musicians follows, as does a chapter that explores the impact on popular culture of blues music and musicians and a chapter that focuses on the legacy of the genre. A bibliography rounds out the work.

Download or read book Abraham Polonsky written by Andrew Dickos and published by Univ. Press of Mississippi. This book was released on 2013-01-01 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abraham Polonsky (1910–1999), screenwriter and filmmaker of the mid-twentieth-century Left, recognized his writerly mission to reveal the aspirations of his characters in a material society structured to undermine their hopes. In the process, he ennobled their struggle. His auspicious beginning in Hollywood reached a zenith with his Oscar-nominated screenplay for Robert Rossen's boxing noir film, Body and Soul (1947), and his inaugural film as writer and director, Force of Evil (1948), before he was blacklisted during the McCarthy witch hunt. Polonsky envisioned cinema as a modern artist. His aesthetic appreciation for each technical component of the screen aroused him to create voiceovers of urban cadences—poetic monologues spoken by the city's everyman, embodied by the actor who played his heroes best, John Garfield. His use of David Raksin's score in Force of Evil, against the backdrop of the grandeur of New York City's landscape and the conflict between the brothers Joe and Leo Morse, elevated film noir into classical family tragedy. Like Garfield, Polonsky faced persecution and an aborted career during the blacklist. But unlike Garfield, Polonsky survived to resume his career in Hollywood during the ferment of the late sixties. Then his vision of a changing society found allegorical expression in Tell Them Willie Boy Is Here, his impressive anti-Western showing the destruction of the Paiute rebel outsider, Willie Boy, and cementing Polonsky as a moral voice in cinema.

Download or read book Strange Brew written by Victor Kennedy and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2013-07-26 with total page 145 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “Strange Brew” is the title of a 1967 hit song from Cream’s album Disraeli Gears, which featured the most psychedelic cover art ever. The song is what postmodern scholars, influenced by Fredric Jameson, would call a pastiche: its lyrics combine images of love, witchcraft, and getting stoned with a note-for-note rendition of Albert King’s traditional blues song “Oh Pretty Woman.” The song’s title is a metaphor suggesting that words and music can mix to become a kind of magic potion. Strange Brew: Metaphors of Magic and Science in Rock Music traces the evolution of psychedelic music from its roots in rock and roll and the blues to its influence on popular music today, shows how metaphor is used to create the effects of songs and their lyrics, and explores how words and music came together as both a cause and effect of the cultural revolution of the nineteen-sixties.
