In particular, we examine the role of the heavy mesons B* and B[sub 0], via the process B[yields][pi](B*, B[sub 0])[yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup -][pi][sup 0], and their interference with resonant contributions in the[rho]-mass region. We discuss the inherent uncertainties and suggest that the effects may be substantially smaller than previously indicated.

The data set contains approximately 56 million B[bar B] pairs produced at the[Upsilon](4S) resonance and recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e[sup+]e[sup -] storage ring. The result of this analysis is[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] J/[psi][pi][sup+][pi][sup -])= (4.6[+-] 0.7[+-] 0.6) x 10[sup -5], where the first error is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition we measure[Beta](B[sup 0][yields] J?[psi][rho][sup 0])= (1.6[+-] 0.6[+-] 0.4) x 10[sup -5].

Book excerpt: We point out the strong correlation between the CP-violating asymmetries in the decays B{sup o} →?K{sub s} and B{sup o} →??− that is predicted by the Kobayashi-Maskawa model. This results in a very restricted allowed region for the asymmetries, and so their measurement will provide a powerful test of the standard model. To show how new physics may give very different results, we look at the predictions of a simple model where both the standard model and superweak contributions to the K{sup o} and B{sup o} mass matrices coexist. We find that, for possible values of the parameters, practically any values are allowed for the asymmetries.

Measurements of branching fractions for the quasi-two-body decays B{sup {+-}} {yields} {rho}{sup 0}(1450){pi}{sup {+-}}, B{sup {+-}} {yields} f{sub 0}(980){pi}{sup {+-}} and B{sup {+-}} f{sub 2}(1270){pi}{sup {+-}} are also presented. They observe no charge asymmetries for the above modes, and there is no evidence for the decays B{sup {+-}} {yields} {chi}{sub c0}{pi}{sup {+-}}, B{sup {+-}} {yields} f{sub 0}(1370){pi}{sup {+-}} and B{sup {+-}} {yields} {sigma}{pi}{sup {+-}}.

Book excerpt: The authors present a measurement of the dipion mass spectrum in the decay X(3872) [yields] J/[psi][pi][sup +][pi][sup -] using a 360 pb[sup -1] sample of p[bar p] collisions at [radical]s = 1.96 TeV collected with the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. As a benchmark, they also extract the dipion mass distribution for [psi](2S) [yields] J/[psi][pi][sup +][pi][sup -] decay. The X(3872) dipion mass spectrum is compared to QCD multipole expansion predictions for various charmonium states, as well as to the hypothesis X(3872) [yields] J/[psi]p[sup 0]. They find that the measured spectrum is compatible with [sup 3]S[sub 1] charmonium decaying to J/[psi][pi][sup +][pi][sup -] and with the X(3872) [yields] J/[psi]p[sup 0] hypothesis. There is, however, no [sup 3]S[sub 1] charmonium state available for assignment to the X(3872). The multipole expansion calculations for [sup 1]P[sub 1] and [sup 3]D[sub J] states are in clear disagreement with the X(3872) data. For the [psi](2S) the data agrees well with previously published results and to multipole expansion calculations for [sup 3]S[sub 1] charmonium. Other, non-charmonium, models for the X(3872) are described too. The authors conclude that since the dipion mass spectrum for X(3872) is compatible with J/[psi]p[sup 0] hypothesis, the X(3872) should be C-positive. This conclusion is supported by recent results from Belle Collaboration which observed X(3872) [yields] J/[psi][gamma] decay. They argue that if X(3872) is a charmonium, then it should be either 1[sup 1]D[sub 2-+] or 2[sup 3]P[sub 1++] state, decaying into J/[psi][pi][sup +][pi][sup -] in violation of isospin conservation. A non-charmonium assignment, such as D[bar D]* molecule, is also quite possible.

Book excerpt: We have performed a search for the decays B[sup+][yields] J/[psi]p[bar[Lambda]] and B[sup 0][yields] J/[psi]p[bar p] in a data set of (88.9[+-] 1.0) x 10[sup 6][Upsilon](4S) decays collected by the BABAR experiment at the PEP-II e[sup+]e[sup -] storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. Four charged B candidates have been observed with an expected background of 0.21[+-] 0.14 events. The corresponding branching fraction is (12[sub -6][sup+9] x 10[sup -6]), where statistical and systematic uncertainties have been combined. The result can be interpreted as a 90% confidence level (CL) upper limit of 26 x 10[sup -6]. We also find one B[sup 0] candidate, with an expected background of 0.64[+-] 0.17 events, implying a 90% CL upper limit of 1.9 x 10[sup -6].
