Book excerpt: (Just About) Everything You Should Know about a Handgun stresses safety; you can never be too safe with your weapon. I have the heart of a teacher and sometimes I get to foot stomping - I can promise you, whether you have never touched a handgun before, or if you grew up with a handgun on your hip, you will learn something from this book. (Just About) Everything You Should Know about a Handgun tells first-time buyers how to choose a weapon, then it tells you to buy that weapon and then buy another one exactly like the one you just bought (don't worry, I explain why in the book). (Just About) Everything You Should Know about a Handgun explains necessary equipment for the range and a little of what to expect on the range (for your first time). In (Just About) Everything You Should Know about a Handgun we talk about murder, both justifiable and excusable. We also talk about deadly force, stand your ground, and duty to retreat. We even talk about flashlights! Bet you gun experts did not see that one coming! (Just About) Everything You Should Know about a Handgun explains how and when to clean your weapon and talks about storing weapons, cleaning equipment, and ammunition all together and separately. We discuss different kinds of ammo, what kind of ammo to carry, and what kind of ammo to shoot on the range. We even talk a little about loading (reloading) your own ammunition. (Just About) Everything You Should Know about a Handgun explains what Title 18 United States Code means to a shooter. We talk about revolver and semiautomatic handgun history, how to grip and draw your weapon, what different stances there are to shoot from, and we train to shoot with both hands. The state laws pertaining to carry either open or concealed for all fifty states and five territories of these United States are included in (Just About) Everything You Should Know about a Handgun. Additionally there are points of contact in each venue. We discuss operations of a revolver and a semiautomatic handgun. There is a pretty thorough review of holsters and ideas on how you might carry. (Just About) Everything You Should Know about a Handgun has a section I like to call Gun-a-Linguist (so I did). I was going to call it Gun Talk, but there are about 253 bazillion references to Gun Talk in Google, so I made up my own word, ergo, Gun-a-Linguist. And-of course-pictures, lots of pictures. My son told me, "Ya gotta have pictures, Dad!" To visit the author's website, please click HERE. To visit the author's Youtube channel link, please click HERE.

Book excerpt: In the late 1800s, John Muir made several trips to the pristine, relatively unexplored territory of Alaska, irresistibly drawn to its awe-inspiring glaciers and its wild menagerie of bears, bald eagles, wolves, and whales. Half-poet and half-geologist, he recorded his experiences and reflections in "Travels in Alaska," a work he was in the process of completing at the time of his death in 1914. As Edward Hoagland writes in his Introduction, "A century and a quarter later, we are reading ÝMuir's ̈ account because there in the glorious fiords . . . he is at our elbow, nudging us along, prompting us to understand that heaven is on earth--is the Earth--and rapture is the sensible response wherever a clear line of sight remains." This Modern Library Paperback Classic includes photographs from the original 1915 edition.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from California and Alaska, and Over the Canadian Pacific Railway In accordance with a time-honored custom, I must, at the outset, explain in a few words why this work is given to the public. In the winter of 1888-9, I determined upon taking a trip with my family across the continent to the Pacific coast, and from thence to the city of Mexico. A few friends were invited to accompany us on our journey. The intention was to be absent about three months and a half, and the 1st of March, 1889, was agreed upon as the starting-day. But the severe illness of my daughter, which began but a few days prior to our time for leaving, disarranged all our plans, and the day of departure was postponed until the first week in April. The more I thought of this proposed journey, the more interesting and important it seemed to me in the prospective. This book was released on 2016-03-01 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Alaska is the 49th and largest state in the United States of America. Separated from the rest of the country (the "lower 48") by Canada, Alaska lies on the Arctic Circle. It is still the least densely populated state in the union and for a long time was home to the lowest population. America's final frontier is the size of California, Texas and Montana combined, making it huge in comparison to the rest of the states! Alaska is also home to the highest point in North America and all of the top ten highest mountains in the USA. Across the Bering Strait lies the country of Russia and the continent of Asia. Most cities and villages in the state are accessible only by sea or air. The Alaska Marine Highway System also serves the cities of Southeast and the Alaska Peninsula. Cities not served by road or sea can only be reached by air, accounting for Alaska's extremely well-developed Bush air services-an Alaskan novelty. Alaska is huge. It actually spans what once were five time zones! So big in fact you probably won't scratch the surface of what it has to offer in terms of geography, wildlife, local flavor, or Alaska native culture. You might visit a couple of the regions of the state during your visit. It is quite possible to experience the ancient rainforest of Southeast Alaska, camp in Denali National Park, and kayak among icebergs in Prince William Sound on the same trip. Another option is to focus on a smaller (still huge) region of the state and spend enough time for a better look and then plan a return trip to explore a different region. Alaska does not have to be a once in a lifetime destination. Three weeks in the Inside Passage, traveling from town to town by ferry, is likely to leave you wanting more time if you enjoy hiking, sea kayaking, fishing, wildlife watching, scenery, Native culture, biking. The Kenai Peninsula, south of Anchorage, is another region worthy of an extended stay and is easily accessed from Anchorage. Plenty of public campgrounds make this an extremely affordable do-it-yourself destination if you have a few folks to share the cost of a rental car. An Anchorage, Denali, Fairbanks, Valdez driving loop also offers plenty to see and do for two weeks or more and can be quite affordable with camping and a shared rental car. There are many things to do when traveling to Alaska. If you are the adventurous type then Alaska will be a great place to go. You can go hiking, biking, kayaking, fishing, and expeditions to see the wildlife of Alaska like wolves, whales, moose, and bears. There are also month-long expeditions to the top of Denali. A journey on the Dalton Highway provides a very unique experience. The highway crosses mountains and tundra, the Arctic Circle, and 414 miles of pristine wilderness. Stay up late to see the midnight sun, it's fascinating to watch in the summer when daytime seems endless. Anyone traveling to Alaska should definitely make a trip to Denali; it is absolutely beautiful and the highest point in North America. You can see it from hundreds of miles away when there are clear skies. However, if you get the opportunity to take a trip to see it up close, do it. An ATV ride up the side of a mountain can be one of the most eventful experiences of your trip. On the way up the path, you will see vegetation and wildlife that you can't see anywhere else. Once you finally get to the top of the mountain, you will see one of the most beautiful sites in all of the United States. Digital cameras and photos don't do the mountain's beauty enough justice. The mosaic of blues, whites, grays, and greens will leave you absolutely astonished. Alaska travel guide Alaska guide book travel guide Alaska Alaska guide
