Book excerpt: Miniaturization of products is a current megatrend and it presents a wider range of opportunities to expand manufacturing markets. Micro device design and manufacturing is a growing area of scientific interest, for large number of industrial fields. This thesis work reports the characterization of different technologies to manufacture micro-channels in order to understand the behavior of process parameters when standard machines are used Results are obtained by evaluating dimensions, shape features and quality surface finishing. Additionally, economical considerations have been evaluated and cost estimation model has been developed. Materials used were aluminum, steel and copper with a hardness of 21 HRB, 88 HRB and 72 HRB respectively. The use of coolant in micro-milling is found to be a relevant factor in improving micro-channel achieved dimensions and surface finish. In general, micro-channels in aluminum were found to achieve better quality than those in cooper. Findings suggest that micro-milling is a suitable process for manufacture micro- channels with standard milling machine. Micro-channels by micro-edm not achieved dimensional quality due to tool wear effects that play a critical role in this technology. Micro-laser milling technology needs further improvement.
