In the academic world, it is often said to be important, yet in everyday academic practice, it is not always treated accordingly. In teaching, methodology is often a mandatory course. Usually, it consists of learning how to adopt several common approaches when doing research, and how to conceive a research design. Effective research methods are the tools by which information is gathered. Without the appropriate design and use of research methods, we are unlikely to gather quality information and as such create a shaky foundation to any review, evaluation or future strategy. The book Research Outlook, innovations and Research Trends in Social Sciences provides several examples to illustrate the concepts and points presented. Users will also note throughout the book the variety of examples in different areas of business—production, operations management, business policy and strategy, organizational behavior ,human resources management, information systems, marketing, accounting, and finance—cited to illustrate that research finds application in all areas of business. Above all, this book is aimed at students who working the field of Social sciences and to those who are specifically involved in the studies that concern the functioning, structuring, diagnosing, or changing of organizations. The goal is to offer them a preliminary guide to define and carry out various forms of research. Book excerpt: Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 0,74, , course: Master of Business Administration, language: English, abstract: The aim of this research was to evaluate employee engagement within Northlands Medical Group, Namibia and its potential impact on organisational performance. The company management made a realisation that there was a dearth of robust information regarding employees’ engagement levels, as well as their intentions to quit or stay, and factors influencing these. This was a quantitative survey study and a structured questionnaire was used to ascertain the factors affecting employee engagement. The survey was conducted telephonically to a study population of 80 respondents. The study population was randomly selected from the company database of all the employees. Employee performance and the nature of interaction with customers are critical in the service industry such as the health care industry. Employee engagement, a contemporary concept linked to employee job satisfaction and motivation, has been well recognised in the literature as being sturdily correlated with their performance, presentism, and advocacy and retention intentions. Therefore, organisations need to empirically and robustly measure employee engagement amongst their staff complement, and determine factors that may influence it, so as to take evidence-based remedial action. Findings from primary research pertaining to the factors affecting engagement levels of the employees at Northlands Medical Group revealed that there were 3 main factors that affect employee engagement namely emotional, cognitive/mental and physical energy factors. The majority of the Northlands Medical Group employees have been found to be actively engaged in all the three major factors that affect engagement. In relation to describing the relationship between employee engagement and organisational performance, findings revealed that there is a very strong connection between employee engagement and organisational performance. The primary research findings revealed that the majority of the Northlands Medical group employees were fully committed to their job, the organisation and they have great advocacy for the company to potential employees and clients. This could be a sign of active engagement and in turn, organisational performance thrives from that.

This comprehensive new book is unique as it brings together, for the first time, psychological and critical HRM perspectives on engagement as well as their practical application. Employee Engagement in Theory and Practice will familiarise readers with the concepts and core themes that have been explored in research and their application in a business context via a set of carefully chosen and highly relevant original and case studies, some of which are co-authored by invited practitioners. Written in an accessible manner, this book will be essential reading for scholars in the field, students studying at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, as well as practitioners interested in finding out more about the theoretical underpinnings of engagement alongside its practical application.

This book was released on 2008 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been a significant improvement in economic relations between the UK and India since the 2006 report from the Trade and Industry Committee (HC 881-I, 3rd report session 2005-06, ISBN 9780215029355), which urged greater engagement with India. Both Government and private sector bodies have worked to achieve this. The sizeable investments and deals made both by Indian companies in the UK and British companies in India are encouraging signs of a deepening relationship which should benefit both countries. The establishment of the UK-India Business Council is perhaps the most tangible manifestation of this. This new report welcomes the improved climate, but identifies areas for further work. India's economy has recently enjoyed growth rates of around 9 per cent a year; it is possible this will slow slightly in 2008 and 2009. India faces significant challenges, such as real poverty, poor infrastructure and public sector bureaucracy. But the Indian market is liberalising and has much to offer. Not all the barriers to a deepened relationship are on the Indian side. The recommendations in this report on education links, on visas, on the future of JETCO, on the work of UKTI and on trade negotiations need to be seen against this wider backdrop.

Book excerpt: Psychology has been interested in the well-being and performance of people at work for over a century, but our knowledge about both issues, and how they relate to each other, is still evolving. This important new collection provides new understandings on what it means to work productively while also feeling happy, socially related and healthy. Including contributions from a range of international experts, the book begins with a conceptual framework for understanding both concepts, before showing how a variety of different contexts, both organizational and personal, impact upon well-being and performance. The book includes chapters on specific job roles, from creative work to service positions, as well as the importance of HR policies and how the individual worker can determine their own well-being and performance. Also featuring a chapter on researching this fascinating area, Well-being and Performance at Work will be essential reading for all students and researchers of organizational or occupational psychology, HRM and business and management. It is also hugely relevant for any professionals interested in the productivity and well-being of their organizations.
