Book Synopsis The Effect of Test Machine Compliance on the Measured Shear Punch Yield Stress as Predicted Using Finite Element Analysis by :
Download or read book The Effect of Test Machine Compliance on the Measured Shear Punch Yield Stress as Predicted Using Finite Element Analysis written by and published by . This book was released on 2001 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In previous research involving the use of the shear punch test, it was assumed that the displacement of the punch tip was only slightly different than the crosshead displacement. The present work explores this assumption and its ramifications by simulating the shear punch test with finite element analysis (FEA). The simulations suggest that punch tip displacement is much less than previously assumed, and that for the test frames which have been used, crosshead displacement is over an order of magnitude greater than punch tip displacement. This difference in displacements is thought to be due to test machine and punch compliance, and a simple elasticity calculation of the compliance of the punch, the test machine, and a specimen gives a result which is in agreement with the FEA simulations. The effect of using punch tip displacement on the observed effective shear yield stress was evaluated using FEA simulated shear punch tests on several different metals. Yield was measured at several different offset shear strains with a 1.0% offset shear yield strength measurement providing the best correlation with 0.2% offset uniaxial yield strength. When using the 1.0% offset shear yield values, the previously observed material-to-material variability in the tensile-shear correlation all but disappeared. Based on this work, it appears that the material-to-material variations in prior correlations between uniaxial yield strength and shear yield strength is due to a combination of large test machine compliance and material-to-material differences in the work hardening exponent.

This book was released on 2002 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In previous research involving the use of shear punch test, it was understood that some compliance was present in the test frame and fixturing for a shear punch test, but it was assumed that this compliance would only affect the slope of the loading curve and not the perceived yield point on a shear punch test trace. The present work explores this assumption and its ramifications by simulating the shear punch test with finite element analysis (FEA). The simulations suggest that punch tip displacement is much less than previously assumed, and that for the test frames and fixtures which have been used, crosshead displacement is over an order of magnitude greater than punch tip displacement. This difference in displacements appears to be due to test machine and punch compliance, and a simple elasticity calculation of the compliance of the punch, the test machine, and a specimen gives a result which is in agreement with the FEA simulations. The effect of using punch tip displacement on the observed effective shear yield stress was evaluated using FEA-simulated shear punch tests on several different metals. Based on this work, it appears that the material-to-material variations in prior correlations between uniaxial yield strength and shear yield strength are largely due to an interplay between the large test system compliance and material-to-material differences in the work hardening behavior.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This handbook addresses the needs of those who are involved in inventing, developing, and testing implants and are concerned about the interactions between biomaterial and body tissue. The authors explore the physical, chemical, mechanical and regulatory considerations of synthetic materials used in surgical and implant procedures, and how these factors impact the latest developments and new approaches. This updated edition provides the biomaterials professional with necessary information on a range of issues, including bulk characterization, surface evaluations, toxicological evaluations, in vitro methods for safety evaluation, methods for evaluating materials in special applications, surgical considerations, systems implantology, soft and hard tissue history, regulatory aspects, and clinical trials.
Book Synopsis Miniature Shear Punch Test with On-Line Acoustic Emission Monitoring for Assessment of Mechanical Properties by : SK. Hotta
Download or read book Miniature Shear Punch Test with On-Line Acoustic Emission Monitoring for Assessment of Mechanical Properties written by SK. Hotta and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper describes the use of acoustic emission monitoring during the shear punch tests to reduce the error involved in the estimation of mechanical property data, especially in the yield strength and strain hardening exponent. Tests have been carried out on a range of materials including AISI type 304 stainless steel containing various amounts of cold work. These data from the shear punch test are compared with tensile property measurements on identical materials. The on-line monitoring capability of acoustic emission technique has been successfully utilized for accurate evaluation of mechanical property data from the shear punch tests.

Book Synopsis Evaluation of Seafood Freshness Quality by : J. R. Botta
Download or read book Evaluation of Seafood Freshness Quality written by J. R. Botta and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1996-12-17 with total page 200 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
