Download or read book Financing and Charges for Wastewater Systems WEF MOP 27 : WEF Manual of Practice No. 27 written by Water Environment Federation and published by McGraw Hill Professional. This book was released on 2004-09-12 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Provides a general overview of the current practices and procedures that should be considered for financing and establishing rates and charges for wastewater collection and treatment systems. It updates the 1984 Edition of Financing and Charges for Wastewater Systems co-published by (American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and (American Public Health Association (APHA), then in its second edition, and serves as a guide to wastewater utility managers, municipal officials, engineers, accountants, and rate analysts. Because the material was updated using a more rigorous peer-review process, the publication is now classified as a Manual of Practice. This manual is not intended to provide a simplistic “cook book” or universal approach to cost allocation and rate making. Rather, it is meant to illustrate the various ways of analyzing and allocating the operating and capital costs associated with collecting and treating wastewater and developing rates and charges that reasonably and equitably reflect the cost of service. The manual stresses the complexity of the integrated considerations involved in developing wastewater system cost allocation and rates for services.

Download or read book Understanding Water Reuse written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-10-05 with total page 16 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In communities all around the world, water supplies are coming under increasing pressure as population growth, climate change, pollution, and changes in land use affect water quantity and quality. To address existing and anticipated water shortages, many communities are working to increase water conservation and are seeking alternative sources of water. Water reuse- the sue of treated wastewater, or "reclaimed" water, for beneficial purposes such as drinking, irrigation, or industrial uses- is one option that has helped some communities significantly expand their water supplies. Understanding Water Reuse summarizes the main findings of the National Research Council report Water Reuse: Expanding the Nation's Water Supply Through Reuse of Municipal Wastewater. The report provides an overview of the options and outlook for water reuse in the United States, discusses water treatment technologies and potential uses of reclaimed water, and presents a new analysis that compares the risks of drinking reclaimed water to those of drinking water from traditional sources.

Book excerpt: Half of the 36 municipal wastewater treatment plants GAO reviewed in 10 States were not raising sufficient funds from their user charge systems to cover operation and maintenance costs. Only 3 of 36 municipalities were setting aside funds to replace treatment plants when they reached the extent of their economical/technological life. Many municipalities indicated that they would return to the Federal Government for replacement funding. GAO is recommending actions to improve administration of the user charge program. GAO also believes the Congress should be consider who will be responsible for funding future treatment plant replacement. (Author).

Book Synopsis Pollutant Discharge and Water Quality in Urbanisation by : Yoshiaki Tsuzuki
Download or read book Pollutant Discharge and Water Quality in Urbanisation written by Yoshiaki Tsuzuki and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2014-03-26 with total page 103 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The main purpose of water quality monitoring may be seen as evaluating water quality conformity against water quality standards, especially for administrative purposes. Moreover, water quality monitoring data can be applied to estimate and evaluate pollutant loads in rivers. Chronological water quality fluctuations and vertical water quality profiles in water bodies are also important when taking into account the effects of land-based pollutants on coastal sea and estuary water quality. This book discusses the relationships between pollutant discharge and water quality, taking into account urban development and indicators like the pollutant load per capita flowing into the water body (PLCwb), an index used to evaluate the contribution of municipal wastewater pollutant discharge to pollutant loads flowing into ambient water bodies such as coastal zones, bays and lakes.
