Book excerpt: Cette étude s’inscrit en marge de l’élaboration d’un outil d’évaluation du bien-être des animaux en élevage. A partir d’enquêtes réalisées dans 82 élevages élevant des porcs à l’engrais (40 sur litière, 33 sur caillebotis intégral et 9 sur caillebotis partiel) une étude descriptive a été effectuée et les relations entre les différents critères d’étude du bien-être en élevage mesurés sur les animaux ainsi qu’avec les caractéristiques de leur environnement ont été explorées. Les corrélations entre les notations de l’état des animaux et les comportements étant faibles, elles ne permettent pas de proposer le remplacement d’un critère par un autre et donc de simplifier la méthode. Cette étude confirme que les facteurs liés au bâtiment et à la conduite d’élevage jouent un rôle important dans le bien-être des animaux d’élevage. Les relations analysées entre les critères environnementaux et les mesures relevées sur les animaux confortent l’importance du respect de la réglementation. Cela se retrouve, par exemple, dans l’expression des comportements positifs quand on augmente la surface du gisoir par porc ou encore la longueur d’auge par animal. A partir des mesures réalisées lors de cette étude, la méthode d’appréciation du bien-être animal sera mise au point et proposée à un panel d’experts pour la valider
