This book was released on 2000 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: LES INTERACTIONS INTERMOLECULAIRES JOUENT UN ROLE IMPORTANT DANS DE NOMBREUX PROCESSUS TANT DANS LE DOMAINE DE LA PHYSIQUE QUE DE LA CHIMIE. L'ETUDE DE SYSTEMES DE PETITE TAILLE LIES PAR CES INTERACTIONS (COMPLEXES MOLECULAIRES) PERMET D'AVOIR DES INFORMATIONS TRES PRECISES A PARTIR DESQUELLES IL EST POSSIBLE D'ALLER PLUS AVANT DANS LA COMPREHENSION DES PROCESSUS QUI RESULTENT DE CES INTERACTIONS (MECANISMES DE PREDISSOCIATION, CHANGEMENT DE STRUCTURE DES COMPOSANTS DU COMPLEXE). POUR ETUDIER EXPERIMENTALEMENT LES COMPLEXES MOLECULAIRES DE PETITE TAILLE, NOUS AVONS ELABORE UN DISPOSITIF COMBINANT UN JET MOLECULAIRE PULSE A FENTE ET UNE DIODE LASER ACCORDABLE. CE DISPOSITIF NOUS PERMET D'OBSERVER LES SPECTRES D'ABSORPTION INFRAROUGES DES COMPLEXES A BASSE TEMPERATURE ET A HAUTE RESOLUTION AVEC UNE GRANDE SENSIBILITE GRACE AU SYSTEME DE DETECTION SYNCHRONE QUE NOUS UTILISONS. NOUS AVONS OBSERVE POUR LA PREMIERE FOIS LES SPECTRES D'ABSORPTION INFRAROUGE A HAUTE RESOLUTION DU MODE D'ELONGATION H-C1 DES COMPLEXES C 2H 2-HC1 ET C 2H 4-HCL PRODUITS DANS UN JET MOLECULAIRE SUPERSONIQUE A FENTE. LES RESULTATS FOURNIS PAR L'ANALYSE DE CES SPECTRES DE ROVIBRATIONS INTRAMOLECULAIRES (DEPLACEMENTS VIBRATIONNELS, VARIATIONS DES CONSTANTES ROTATIONNELLES) ONT PERMIS DE REMONTER A DES INFORMATIONS SUR LES INTERACTIONS MISES EN JEU DANS CES COMPLEXES (INFLUENCE DE L'EXCITATION VIBRATIONNELLE SUR L'INTERACTION, ESTIMATION DE L'ENERGIE DE LIAISON A L'AIDE DE L'APPROXIMATION PSEUDO-DIATOMIQUE). AFIN D'AVOIR UNE VISION PLUS GLOBALE DES SYSTEMES ETUDIES, NOUS AVONS COMPLETE NOTRE ETUDE EXPERIMENTALE PAR DES ETUDES DE CHIMIE QUANTIQUE. NOUS AVONS NOTAMMENT DEPASSE LES APPROXIMATIONS USUELLES DES CALCULS AB INITIO PAR UN CALCUL DU POTENTIEL INTERMOLECULAIRE SUR UNE GRILLE A DEUX DIMENSIONS. NOUS AVONS AINSI PU OBTENIR DES INFORMATIONS SUR LES EFFETS D'ANHARMONICITE, DE LA CORRECTION COMPLETE DE L'ERREUR DE SUPERPOSITION DE BASE ET DE COUPLAGES ENTRE LES MOUVEMENTS INTRA- ET INTERMOLECULAIRES.

Book excerpt: Safe and effective management of nuclear waste provides a broad range of challenges for materials science. Waste processing, waste form and engineered barrier properties, interactions between engineered and geological systems, radiation effects, chemistry and transport of waste species, and long-term predictions of repository performance are just some of the scientific problems facing modern society. This book, the 22nd in a very successful series from MRS, offers an international and inter-disciplinary perspective on the issues, and features developments in both fundamental and applied areas. Topics include: development and characterization of ceramic waste forms; ceramic waste form corrosion; glass waste form processing; glass formulation, properties and structure; glass waste form corrosion; spent nuclear fuel; performance assessment; repository backfill; flow and transport; natural analogues; container corrosion; metal waste form corrosion; radionuclide speciation and solubility; radionuclide sorption; microbial effects; radiation effects; cement waste forms and waste treatment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The most current guide to solid state polymerization Solid State Polymerization (SSP)is an indispensable tool in the design, manufacture, and study of polymers, plastics, and fibers. SSP presents significant advantages over other polymerization techniques due to low operating temperatures, inexpensive equipment, and simple and environmentally sound procedures. Combining fundamentals of polymer science, chemistry, physical chemistry, and engineering, SSP also offers many research applications for a wide range of students and investigators. Gathering and filtering the latest literature on SSP, Solid Solid State Polymerization offers a unique, one-stop resource on this important process. With chapters contributed by leaders in the field, this text summarizes SSP, and provides essential coverage that includes: An introduction to SSP, with chemical and physical steps, apparatus, advantages, and parameters SSP physical chemistry and mechanisms Kinetic aspects of polyesters and polyamides SSP Catalysis in SSP processes Application of SSP under high pressure conditions in the laboratory Engineering aspects regarding process modeling and industrial application Recent developments and future possibilities Solid State Polymerization provides the most up-to-date coverage of this constantly developing field to academic and industry professionals, as well as graduate and postgraduate-level students in chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, polymer chemistry, polymer processing and polymer engineering.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For several decades, polymer science has sought to rationalize the mechanical and thermodynamic properties of polymer networks largely within the framework of statistical thermodynamics. Much of this effort has been directed toward the rubbery rather than the glassy state. It is generally assumed that networks possess an av erage composition to which average properties may be assigned; from such a continuum view, a powerful analysis of such properties as modulus, swelling, birefringence and thermoelasticity has emerged. In the years following the rise of polymer characterization (the late 40's and early 50's), many scientists began to study ap parent relations between the properties of linear polymer molecules and the networks obtainable therefrom. This search was also stimu lated by the wide range of applications of polymer networks in com mercial elastomers, thermosets and coatings. Frequently, these data were confidently matched with curves obtained from statisti cally describable models of networks of ghost chains, uniformly distributed in space. More recently, it has become apparent that polymer chains in networks are not as ideal as assumed in the formulation of statis tical models, and there has been a shift in emphasis towards the less than ideal, perturbed and possibly inhomogeneous networks which are more frequently encountered in practice. The continuum approach, however, had to be developed before inhomogeneous systems could be described; the present volume, therefore, contains both views.
