Book Synopsis Tailored Metal Catalysts by : Y. Iwasawa
Download or read book Tailored Metal Catalysts written by Y. Iwasawa and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1985-12-31 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Well tailored metal catalysts are catalysts of the new generation resulting from scientific development at the boundary between homogeneous and hetero geneous chemistry. The main factors involved in making tailored metal catalysts are not those of traditional impregnation in which the chemistry is in general unknown and ill-defined, or of simple ion exchange which involves long-range forces with little control on the local structure through definite and special bond direction. Tailored Metal Catalysts thus has a rather different emphasis from normal review publications in the field of catalysis. Here we concentrate more on the distinct surface chemistry and catalytic properties of important established materials with well-characterized active structures or precursors, although at the same time providing a systematic presentation of relevant data. Many pioneering works have been undertaken in the field of tailored metal catalysts since the early research on polymer-attached homogeneous metal complexes by the British Petroleum Company Ltd. and the Mobil Oil Corpora tion around 1969; transition metal complexes attached on polymers by Grubbs (1971), Heinemann (1971), Manassen (1971), Pittman (1971), Bursian et al. (1972), Kagan (1973), Bailar (1974); transition metal complexes attached on inorganic oxides by Allum et al. (1972), Ballard (1973), Candlin and Thomas (1974), Murrell (1974), Yermakov (1974); metal carbonyls/polymers by Moffat (1970); metal carbonyls/inorganic oxides by Parkyns (1965), Davie et al. (1969), Banks et al. (1969), Howe (1973), Burwell (1975); metal carbonyl clusters/ polymers by Colhnan (1972); metal carbonyl clusters/inorganic oxides by Robertson and Webb (1974), Anderson (1974), Smith et al. (1975).
Book Synopsis Catalysis in C1 Chemistry by : W. Keim
Download or read book Catalysis in C1 Chemistry written by W. Keim and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 318 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Continuously increasing oil prices, a dwindling supply of petroleum, and the existence of extensive reserves of biomass, especially of coal, have given rise to a growing interest in generating CO/H from these sources. Catalytic reactions can 2 convert CO/H mixtures to useful hydrocarbons or hydrocarbon intermediates. 2 There is little doubt that petroleum will remain the backbone of the organic chemical industry for many years to come, yet there is great opportunity for CO as an alternative feedstock at times when it is needed. The loosely defined body of chemistry and technology contained in these areas of development has become known as C 1 chemistry, embracing many C 1 building blocks such as CH , CO/H , CO, CH OH, CO and HCN; still emphasis 4 2 3 2 rests on carbon monoxide. Academic research laboratories, oil and chemical companies are in the vanguard of C 1 chemistry. The Japanese Ministry of International Trade and Industry is sponsoring a seven-year program of 14 major chemical companies in C 1 chemistry aimed at developing new technology for making basic chemicals from CO and H2 . It is likely that C 1 chemistry will develop slowly but persistently and the future holds great potential.

Book excerpt: Carbon materials have, in recent years, been attracting attention as potential supports in heterogeneous catalysis. In 2006, the number of articles dealing with various types of catalysts supported on carbon approached 1000, however only a fraction of those were devoted to hydroprocessing catalysts, despite the fact that interest in carbons as supports for hydroprocessing catalysts began more than two decades ago. This unique book is a comprehensive summary of recent research in the field and covers all areas of carbons and carbon materials. The potential application of carbon supports, partic.
Book Synopsis Atomically-Precise Methods for Synthesis of Solid Catalysts by : Sophie Hermans
Download or read book Atomically-Precise Methods for Synthesis of Solid Catalysts written by Sophie Hermans and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2014-10-31 with total page 317 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is much interest in preparing catalysts with specific structures for a desired catalytic activity. Although there has been a great amount of research into correlating particles sizes and microstructure to catalytic activity, knowledge about practical catalysts still remain ill-defined. The current challenge is now to understand atomic control. Atomically-Precise Methods for Synthesis of Solid Catalysts provides an overview of recent developments in heterogeneous catalysts preparation which aim at controlling the microstructure of such catalysts at the atomic scale. Each chapter provides a different synthetic approach to achieve atomic-scale control along techniques to characterize the atomically-precise solids. Topics covered include bimetallic supported catalysts from single-source precursors zeolite-supported molecular metal complex catalyst, surface organometallic chemistry, atomic layer deposition and electron microscopy of catalysts. Edited by active researchers in the area, the book aims to bridge the gap between surface science and heterogeneous catalysis. The book is suitable for graduate students as well as researchers in academia in industry from various disciplines including engineering, inorganic/organometallic chemistry, surface science and physical chemistry interested in catalyst design.
Book Synopsis New Trends in CO Activation by : L. Guczi
Download or read book New Trends in CO Activation written by L. Guczi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1991-06-25 with total page 509 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The aim of this volume is to provide scientists with a comprehensive summary of new research areas in the activation of carbon monoxide, as one of the most reactive molecules, and in its applications. In order to understand the variety of the reactivity of CO, a quantum-chemical approach helps the reader to understand the binding state of CO to the solid surface (Chapter 1). The structure of the adsorbed CO can be better understood by examining its reactivity towards single crystals in the absence and in the presence of promoters (Chapter 2). The first approach in the reactivity study is that of studying catalytic activity of single crystals and structure sensitivity which are summarized in Chapter 3. One of the most prominent effects in the CO activation process is ascribed to the presence of additives, promoters which, in a real catalyst system, are far more complicated than on single crystal surfaces (Chapter 4). The original Fischer-Tropsch process applied fused iron or cobalt catalysts which were suitable for producing mainly straight chain hydrocarbons. The two most important processes involving CO activation, the new FT process and alcohol formation are discussed in Chapters 5 and 7. An important type of catalyst, the bimetallic catalysts, is discussed in Chapter 6. The role of hydrogen as one of the most frequently used partners in CO activation is discussed in Chapter 8. The field of production of specialty chemicals is an excellent example of the homogeneous catalytic activation of CO (Chapter 9). In Chapter 10 an overview is given of the industrial applications of CO chemistry and these are illustrated by working processes. The final chapter gives the reader some hints about future progress in the field.
