Book excerpt: L’objectif de cette thèse est de réaliser un système de transmission optique bas coût en multiplexage temporel (OTDM), pour un débit global de 10 Gb/s. Le train de pulses optique nécessaire au système a été généré par modulation externe d’une source optique continue, avec une modulateur d’intensité. Les simulations ont été concluantes quant à la faisabilité du système étudié. Une étude théorique a permis de résoudre le problème lié aux interférences cohérentes dues à la nature de la source utilisée. Les performances du système de multiplexage expérimental ont été comparées pour deux sources optiques différentes. Le démultiplexage est réalisé avec un modulateur à électroabsorption (EAM). Des valeurs de TEB inférieures à 10-10 ont été obtenues experimentalement sur chaque canal extrait. Le système est adapté pour une combinaison avec la technique de multiplexage en longueur d’onde (WDM).

Dans ce contexte, la fibre optique plastique à saut d'indice (SI-FOP), avec son gros diamètre de câble (3 à 4 mm) et sa grande ouverture numérique semble être un candidat idéal pour la transmission du gigabit Ethernet à faible coût. Les avantages de la SI-FOP sont sa simplicité d'utilisation, sa connexion facile, l'installation à la portée de tous et sa longueur d'onde d'utilisation. Dans ce mémoire, nous déterminons un modèle mathématique réaliste de la SI-FOP dans un système à modulation d'intensité et détection directe (IM/DD) utilisant la modulation Discrete Multi Tone (DMT). Les caractéristiques du canal sont évaluées en déterminant la capacité théorique au sens de Shannon et la capacité pratique DMT avec les algorithmes d'allocation de bits (« rate adaptive bit loading ») comme le water-filling, les algorithmes de Chow et de Levin-Campello. Book excerpt: Les réseaux d'accès optiques passifs (PON) offrant un débit symétrique de 100 Mbit/s sont en cours de déploiement en Asie et aux US et sont au stade d'expérimentation pilote à France Télécom. Des groupes de travail sont en place pour normaliser la prochaine génération de PON qui permettra des accès de l'ordre du Gigabit/s. Dans cette optique, cette thèse porte sur les réseaux d'accès optiques exploitant le multiplexage en longueurs d'ondes (WDM). Le premier chapitre décrit de façon générale le réseau d'accès ainsi que la technologie du multiplexage en longueurs d'onde. Le second chapitre est un état de l'art des PON WDM. Les avantages et contraintes de chaque architecture et composant utilisés sont analysés. Le troisième chapitre présente deux architectures innovantes de PON WDM, qui ont été imaginées puis maquettées en laboratoire, permettant un débit global de 1 Gbit/s par longueur d'onde sur 20 km. Ces architectures sont basées sur un amplificateur optique à semiconducteur réflectif (RSOA) qui permet d'obtenir un module client achromatique bas coût. L'association du multiplexage en longueurs d'onde et du multiplexage temporel est expérimentée afin d'augmenter la mutualisation sur chaque PON WDM. Une étude sur la conversion tout optique de longueur d'onde de la bande O vers les bandes C et L, basée sur un modulateur à électro-absorption, a également été réalisée, dans le cadre d'une architecture de réseau d'accès étendu. Une étude théorique sur les limitations de la transmission bidirectionnelle dans une fibre a été effectuée dans le chapitre 4 afin d'évaluer en particulier les impacts de la rétrodiffusion de Rayleigh sur les performances des architectures étudiées.
