Book excerpt: Ce travail expérimental entend contribuer à la compréhension des phénomènes physiques présents dans l’écoulement autour d’un modèle générique de véhicule, le corps de Ahmed. Cet écoulement se caractérise par le développement d’un bulbe de recirculation encadré de deux structures tourbillonnaires longitudinales au voisinage immédiat de la paroi de la lunette arrière du modèle. Dans un premier temps, cet écoulement est étudié par méthode polarographique en canal hydrodynamique, cette méthode permettant l’accès au frottement pariétal instationnaire. Par l’utilisation de diverses méthodes d’analyse, nous mettons en évidence la présence d’instationnarités marquées dans l’écoulement qui participent fortement à la complexité de la dynamique des différentes structures tourbillonnaires. Un contrôle de l’écoulement au moyen d’un déflecteur est ensuite étudié. L’augmentation du bulbe décollé sur la lunette par le dispositif de contrôle permet, sous certaines conditions, une réduction de la traînée aérodynamique du corps de l’ordre de 9%. Nous mettons l’accent sur la compréhension des mécanismes physiques mis en jeu dans cette modification des efforts aérodynamiques, notamment par la caractérisation de l’influence du contrôle sur la topologie de l’écoulement. Nous montrons notamment que l’amplification imposée au bulbe de recirculation permet l’affaiblissement, puis la destruction, des structures longitudinales. Cette étude montre ainsi qu’il est nécessaire de prendre en compte toutes les structures tourbillonnaires autour de ce type de configuration tridimensionnelle afin de mettre en œuvre des stratégies de contrôle plus efficaces.
