This book was released on 1994 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: CETTE ETUDE CONCERNE L'HYDRODYNAMIQUE ET LE TRANSFERT DE MATIERE DANS UN REACTEUR TRIPHASIQUE, DESTINE AU TRAITEMENT DES EAUX RESIDUAIRES URBAINES, OU LA MISE EN SUSPENSION DE LA PHASE SOLIDE S'EFFECTUE PAR BULLAGE. DANS CE TYPE DE REACTEUR, DESIGNE PAR LE TERME DE LIT TURBULENT, LE BULLAGE INDUIT LA MISE EN MOUVEMENT DES PARTICULES QUI CIRCULENT AINSI DANS L'ENSEMBLE DU REACTEUR. LES SOLIDES UTILISES ONT UN DIAMETRE COMPRIS ENTRE 1.5 ET 4 MM ET UNE MASSE VOLUMIQUE COMPRISE ENTRE 1028 ET 1038 KG/M#3. LES CONDITIONS DE MISES EN SUSPENSION ONT ETE CARACTERISES PAR LA VITESSE GAZEUSE MINIMALE CRITIQUE DE MAINTIEN EN CIRCULATION DES PARTICULES. UGC. IL A ETE MIS EN EVIDENCE QUE CETTE VITESSE DEPEND PRINCIPALEMENT DE LA MASSE DE PARTICULES PRESENTE, EVENTUELLEMENT RAMENEE A L'UNITE DE SECTION DE COLONNE, PLUTOT QUE DE LA RETENTION SOLIDE MOYENNE. L'INFLUENCE DU MODE DE DISTRIBUTION DE LA PHASE GAZEUSE (PAR POREUX, PLAQUE PERCEE OU MEMBRANE) A ETE MISE EN LUMIERE ET QUANTIFIEE. IL A ETE EGALEMENT MONTRE QUE LES VALEURS DE LA VITESSE GAZEUSE CRITIQUE DIMINUENT AVEC L'AUGMENTATION DU DIAMETRE DE L'INSTALLATION OU EN PRESENCE D'UN DEBIT LIQUIDE FAIBLE, COMPATIBLE AVEC UNE UTILISATION EN TRAITEMENT BIOLOGIQUE. LA HAUTEUR TOTALE DE L'INSTALLATION N'A PAS D'INFLUENCE SUR UGC, TANT QUE LA RETENTION SOLIDE TOTALE RESTE INFERIEURE A 25%. LES PARAMETRES SPECIFIQUES DU LIT TRIPHASIQUE: MELANGE AXIAL DE LA PHASE LIQUIDE, REPARTITION LOCALE DE LA PHASE SOLIDE, RETENTIONS GAZEUSES GLOBALES, ONT ETE DETERMINES DANS DES CONDITIONS OU TOUT LE MATERIAU EST SUSPENDU. LE MELANGE AXIAL DE LA PHASE LIQUIDE A ETE CARACTERISE PAR LE COEFFICIENT DE DISPERSION AXIAL, EZL, ESTIME A DEBIT DE LIQUIDE NUL. L'IMPORTANCE DU CHOIX DU DISTRIBUTEUR DE GAZ ET SES CONSEQUENCES SUR L'INTENSITE DU MELANGE LIQUIDE ET LA MISE EN SUSPENSION DU SOLIDE APPARAIT DE NOUVEAU. AU-DELA DE LA MISE EN SUSPENSION, LES PROFILS AXIAUX DE REPARTITION DU SOLIDE NE VARIENT PLUS, QUELLE QUE SOIT LA VITESSE GAZEUSE SUPERFICIELLE, ET IL PERSISTE UN FORT GRADIENT AXIAL EN SOLIDE. LES RETENTIONS GAZEUSES GLOBALES ET LES COEFFICIENTS DE TRANSFERT VOLUMIQUE D'OXYGENE K#LA, OBTENUS AVEC TROIS DISTRIBUTEURS DE GAZ DIFFERENTS, DANS DES CONDITIONS DE SUSPENSION TOTALE DE LA PHASE SOLIDE, SONT PROCHES DES VALEURS EN COLONNE A BULLES (90 A 95% DES VALEURS INITIALES).

Book excerpt: L'ETUDE CONCERNE LA MISE AU POINT D'UN REACTEUR TRIPHASIQUE DESTINE A L'EPURATION DES EAUX RESIDUAIRES. DANS CE REACTEUR, LE BULLAGE INDUIT LA MISE EN MOUVEMENT DES PARTICULES SOLIDES; LA PHASE LIQUIDE NE PARTICIPE PAS DIRECTEMENT A LEUR MISE EN SUSPENSION. QUATRE SOLIDES DE DIAMETRE MOYEN COMPRIS ENTRE 0,375 ET 4 MM ONT ETE ETUDIES: DES BILLES DE VERRE DE MASSE VOLUMIQUE 2500 KG/M#3 ET TROIS MATERIAUX COMPOSITES DE MASSE VOLUMIQUE COMPRISE ENTRE 1015 ET 1180 KG/M#3. L'ETUDE CONSISTE EN L'ANALYSE DE L'HYDRAULIQUE DE LA MISE EN SUSPENSION DES SOLIDES ET DES INTERACTIONS BULLES/PARTICULES. QUELQUES DONNEES SUR LE TRANSFERT D'OXYGENE DANS DEUX REACTEURS ECHELLE SEMI-INDUSTRIELLE SONT FOURNIES. LE COMPORTEMENT HYDRODYNAMIQUE DU REACTEUR A ETE CARACTERISE PAR LA VARIATION DE LA PERTE DE CHARGE AU COURS DE LA MISE EN SUSPENSION DES PARTICULES SOLIDES, LA VITESSE CRITIQUE GAZEUSE DE MISE EN SUSPENSION DES PARTICULES ET LA RETENTION GAZEUSE. UNE ANALYSE BIDIMENSIONNELLE SUR L'ENSEMBLE DES RESULTATS ACQUIS A PERMIS DE DEGAGER UNE CORRELATION LIANT LA VITESSE CRITIQUE DE MISE EN SUSPENSION AUX DIVERS PARAMETRES DE FONCTIONNEMENT. UNE CORRELATION SPECIFIQUE AUX MATERIAUX COMPOSITES EST EGALEMENT PROPOSEE. LES RESULTATS SUR L'HYDRODYNAMIQUE ET LE TRANSFERT DE MATIERE ONT PERMIS DE DIMENSIONNER UNE UNITE PILOTE ECHELLE SEMI-INDUSTRIELLE ET DE REALISER UNE ETUDE D'EXTRAPOLATION

Book excerpt: CETTE ETUDE CONCERNE L'HYDRODYNAMIQUE ET LE TRANSFERT DE MATIERE GAZ/LIQUIDE D'UN NOUVEAU REACTEUR TRIPHASIQUE : LE LIT TURBULE INVERSE DONT L'APPLICATION PRINCIPALE EST LE TRAITEMENT BIOLOGIQUE D'UNE EAU USEE. LE LIT TURBULE INVERSE CONSISTE A METTRE EN SUSPENSION DES PARTICULES PLUS LEGERES QUE L'EAU PAR LA SEULE CONTRIBUTION D'UN ECOULEMENT GAZEUX ASCENDANT. L'ECOULEMENT DE LA PHASE LIQUIDE RESPECTANT LES TEMPS DE SEJOUR DU PROCESSUS BIOLOGIQUE ETANT TROP FAIBLE POUR PERMETTRE LA FLUIDISATION. LES SOLIDES UTILISES SONT DES PARTICULES EN PLASTIQUES DE DIAMETRE COMPRIS ENTRE 2.3 ET 4.5 MM ET DE MASSE VOLUMIQUE VARIANT DE 896 A 934 KG/M#3. LE COMPORTEMENT HYDRODYNAMIQUE DU LIT TURBULE INVERSE A ETE IDENTIFIE PAR TROIS VITESSES GAZEUSES SPECIFIQUES : U#G1, U#G2 ET U#G3 CORRESPONDANT RESPECTIVEMENT A LA REFORMATION DU LIT, A L'EXPANSION TOTALE DU LIT ET A LA REPARTITION HOMOGENE DU SOLIDE. CES VITESSES GAZEUSES DEPENDENT FORTEMENT DE LA QUANTITE DE SOLIDE PRESENTE DANS LA COLONNE, DES CARACTERISTIQUES DES PARTICULES ET DU TYPE DE DISTRIBUTEUR DE GAZ. LES PERFORMANCES DU REACTEUR ONT ETE EVALUEES PAR LA MESURE DU COEFFICIENT DE DISPERSION AXIALE DE LA PHASE LIQUIDE, DE LA RETENTION GAZEUSE ET DU COEFFICIENT DE TRANSFERT VOLUMIQUE K#L A DANS LES CONDITIONS OU TOUT LE MATERIAU EST SUSPENDU. LA QUANTITE DE SOLIDE PRESENTE DANS LA COLONNE MODIFIE FORTEMENT L'INTENSITE DU MELANGE AXIAL MAIS SON INFLUENCE EST FONCTION DU TYPE DE DISTRIBUTEUR UTILISE. PAR CONTRE, LES VALEURS DE LA RETENTION GAZEUSE ET DU COEFFICIENT DE TRANSFERT VOLUMIQUE NE SONT QUE TRES FAIBLEMENT MODIFIES PAR LA PRESENCE DU SOLIDE POUR DES VITESSES GAZEUSES INFERIEURES A U#G3. LES PHENOMENES REGISSANT LA FLUIDISATION DES PARTICULES LEGERES (LES CIRCULATIONS LIQUIDES ET LA VARIATION DE LA DIFFERENCE ENTRE LE SOLIDE ET LE PSEUDO-FLUIDE) ONT ETE MIS EN EVIDENCE. DES CORRELATIONS EMPIRIQUES, PERMETTANT D'ESTIMER LES DIFFERENTS PARAMETRES CARACTERISANT LE LIT TURBULE INVERSE, ONT ETE AUSSI PROPOSEES

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Expanding a port, deepening a navigation channel or creating new land for development, introduces changes to our physical, social, economic and political environment. Changes may result from events during the construction process, or relate to the nature of the completed structure. Changes can be positive or negative, short-term or long-term, and may affect the immediate vicinity of the project or a larger geographical area. Predicting and assessing all possible effects of a planned dredging activity in a scientifically-sound and reliable manner is essential, so that appropriate control measures can be taken to avoid or mitigate unwelcome impacts. This book provides guidance for a complete holistic environmental evaluation procedure and for the design and implementation of environmental control measures. The book is of particular interest to engineers, government agencies and port authorities, as well as civil engineering consultants and contractors involved in planning and designing dredging, maritime infrastructure and fluvial projects.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Whenever radioactivity is released to the atmosphere, for example by the detonation of nuclear weapons or the testing of nuclear weapons or from nuclear reactor accidents that fraction of it which remains airborne for more than a few hours is liable to be attached to aerosol particles. The resulting radioactive aerosols are carried by atmospheric mixing processes until they settle out or are scavenged by precipitation. The radiation exposure pathway of maximum concern to humans is by inhalation of aerosols and their deposition in the respiratory tract. In this context, it is important to note that radioactive aerosols are commonly of natural origin alos. In particular, the associated radionuclides can be of natural terrestrial origin, such as the decay products of radon gas, or they can e cosmogenic, such as beryllium-7. The exposure of miners of uranium and other ores and minerals to radon and its aerosol-borne decay products is of major significance. The book describes the formation of aerosols, their aerodynamic size distribution, their atmospheric residence time, their sampling and measurement, the range of radioactive aerosols found and studied thus far, including man-made nuclides and radon decay products and their interaction with man, including deposition in the lung and subsequent health effects. - Advanced level science handbook for researchers, scientists and academics - Covers all aspects of radiation exposure in humans, including subsequent health implications - Presents the latest findings and analysis in this highly topical area

Book excerpt: Pakistan is unlike most other countries in the emerging world. It is one of the two nations – the other being the state of Israel – founded on the basis of religion. Although it was created to provide a homeland for the Muslim community of British India, in its original form it was able to accommodate only about half of the people of Islamic faith who lived in the subcontinent. Pakistan’s birth in 1947 resulted in one of the largest movements of people in human history when some 14 million people left their homes, with 8 million Muslims leaving India for what is now Pakistan and 6 million Hindus and Sikhs moving in the opposite direction. This was the first large-scale incidence of ethnic cleansing the world was to witness. --

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In October 1982, a small international symposium was held at the Gesellschaft fUr Strahlen- und Umweltforschung mbH (GSF) in Munich as a satellite meeting of the IX International Conference on Analytical Cytology. The symposium focussed on cytometric approaches to biological dosimetry, and was, to the best of our knowledge, the first meeting on this subject ever held. There was strong encouragement from the 75 attendees and from others to publish a proceedings of the symposium. Hence this book, containing 30 of the 36 presentations, has been assembled. Dosimetry, the accurate and systematic determination of doses, usually refers to grams of substance administered or rads of ionization or some such measure of exposure of a patient, a victim or an experimental system. The term also can be used to describe the quantity of an ultimate, active agent as delivered to the appropriate target material within a biological system. Thus, for mutagens, one can speak of DNA dosimetry, meaning the number of adducts produced in the DNA of target cells such as bone-mar row stem cells or spermatogonia.

Book excerpt: Health Protection: Principles and practice is a practical guide for practitioners working at all levels in public health and health protection, including those with a non-specialist background. It is the first textbook in health protection to address all three domains within the field (communicable disease control; emergency preparedness, resilience and response (EPRR); and environmental public health) in a comprehensive and integrated manner. Written by leading practitioners in the field, the book is rooted in a practice-led, all-hazards approach, which allows for easy real-world application of the topics discussed. The chapters are arranged in six sections, which begin with an in-depth introduction to the principles of health protection and go on to illuminate the three key elements of the field by providing: case studies and scenarios to describe common and important issues in the practice of health protection; health protection tools, which span epidemiology and statistics, infection control, immunisation, disease surveillance, and audit and service improvement; and evidence about new and emerging health protection issues. It includes more than 100 health protection checklists (SIMCARDs), covering infections from anthrax to yellow fever, non-infectious diseases emergencies and environmental hazards. Written from first-hand experience of managing communicable diseases these provide practical, stand-alone quick reference guides for in-practice use. Both the topical content of Health Protection: Principles and practice, and the clearly described health protection principles the book provides, makes it a highly relevant resource for wider public health and health protection professionals in this continually evolving field.
