Book Synopsis An Introduction to Differential Manifolds by : Jacques Lafontaine
Download or read book An Introduction to Differential Manifolds written by Jacques Lafontaine and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-07-29 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an introduction to differential manifolds. It gives solid preliminaries for more advanced topics: Riemannian manifolds, differential topology, Lie theory. It presupposes little background: the reader is only expected to master basic differential calculus, and a little point-set topology. The book covers the main topics of differential geometry: manifolds, tangent space, vector fields, differential forms, Lie groups, and a few more sophisticated topics such as de Rham cohomology, degree theory and the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for surfaces. Its ambition is to give solid foundations. In particular, the introduction of “abstract” notions such as manifolds or differential forms is motivated via questions and examples from mathematics or theoretical physics. More than 150 exercises, some of them easy and classical, some others more sophisticated, will help the beginner as well as the more expert reader. Solutions are provided for most of them. The book should be of interest to various readers: undergraduate and graduate students for a first contact to differential manifolds, mathematicians from other fields and physicists who wish to acquire some feeling about this beautiful theory. The original French text Introduction aux variétés différentielles has been a best-seller in its category in France for many years. Jacques Lafontaine was successively assistant Professor at Paris Diderot University and Professor at the University of Montpellier, where he is presently emeritus. His main research interests are Riemannian and pseudo-Riemannian geometry, including some aspects of mathematical relativity. Besides his personal research articles, he was involved in several textbooks and research monographs.

Book Synopsis Electromagnetic Wave Diffraction by Conducting Screens pseudodifferential operators in diffraction problems by : Yu. G. Smirnov
Download or read book Electromagnetic Wave Diffraction by Conducting Screens pseudodifferential operators in diffraction problems written by Yu. G. Smirnov and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-03-23 with total page 127 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book covers the latest problems of modern mathematical methods for three-dimensional problems of diffraction by arbitrary conducting screens. This comprehensive study provides an introduction to methods of constructing generalized solutions, elements of potential theory, and other underlying mathematical tools. The problem settings, which turn out to be extremely effective, differ significantly from the known approaches and are based on the original concept of vector spaces 'produced' by Maxwell equations. The formalism of pseudodifferential operators enables to prove uniqueness theorems and the Fredholm property for all problems studied. Readers will gain essential insight into the state-of-the-art technique of investigating three-dimensional problems for closed and unclosed screens based on systems of pseudodifferential equations. A detailed treatment of the properties of their kernels, in particular degenerated, is included. Special attention is given to the study of smoothness of generalized solutions and properties of traces.

Book Synopsis Advanced Theory of Diffraction by a Semi-infinite Impedance Cone by : J.M.L Bernard
Download or read book Advanced Theory of Diffraction by a Semi-infinite Impedance Cone written by J.M.L Bernard and published by ALPHA SCIENCE INTERNATIONAL LIMITED. This book was released on 2014-07-11 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The mathematical problem concerning the diffraction by a semi-infinite cone with circular cross section for the Helmholtz equation, which has well-known solutions for Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions, is here considered for the more general boundary condition of constant impedance type. As previously stated by D.S. Jones, the problem then changes in complexity, beginning with the difficulty of obtaining the uniqueness of the solution. An exact analytical method is developed to reduce this problem to the determination of the solution of a well-posed non-oscillatory integral equation, of which the solution can be directly used to express the field in an integral form. Some generalization, in particular to the electromagnetic case, are also given.
Book Synopsis Generalized Method of Eigenoscillations in Diffraction Theory by : M. S. Agranovich
Download or read book Generalized Method of Eigenoscillations in Diffraction Theory written by M. S. Agranovich and published by Wiley-VCH. This book was released on 1999-07-29 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book presents a new method for solving various diffraction and scattering problems in acoustics, electrodynamics, and quantum mechanics. Each version of the method is based on the representation of the diffracted field in the form of a series in the eigenfunctions of an auxiliary homogeneous problem in which the spectral parameter is usually not the frequency. This allows one to treat problems not only in bounded but also in unbounded domains or in the entire space. For example, for the problem of diffraction on a metallic body, the homogeneous problem of the same form can be used with impedance as the spectral parameter. The transparency coefficient, the dielectric constant, etc. can also be used as the spectral parameter. The method is especially effective for the analysis of resonance systems, in particular, of open resonators and waveguides. The method permits one to represent the exact solution in unbounded domains in the form of a series (since the spectrum is discrete), without an additional integral with respect to the spectral parameter, and use the variational approach though the corresponding problems are usually nonself-adjoint.

Propagations libre et guidée - Cours, exemples et exercices corrigés written by Rabia Aksas and published by Editions Ellipses. This book was released on 2021-03-16 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
