On board the first explorer sun ship, the Constantia, ty soon discovers that the failure of the enormous machine was no accident. Meanwhile, on his home planet of Pa'Kevutu, a simple act of defiance turns into a large scale revolution that threatens to change the oppressive corporate governmental structure. Hoping to distract the people from the message of the rebels, the corporate executives send the Constantia on a controversial mission to find much needed resources on a large asteroid. What Commander Wek and his crew discover is that the planet is the home of yet another human race but that fact does not dissuade them from their mission to rape the planet. With only a fleet of small defenseless orbiters and a great deal of determination, the inhabitants of the planet of Pa'Chol decide to defend themselves. The war for the control of the collection of asteroids known as The Milleran Cluster begins."--Back cover

Download or read book Good and Evil written by Edward Farley and published by Fortress Press. This book was released on with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What does it mean to be human in a world filled with tragedy? With creativity and insight Edward Farley, one of today's most respected theologians, here addresses this universal and haunting question of evil. Farley anchors his discussion firmly in interhuman (I-thou) dynamics as a key to unfolding the personal and social spheres of human existence. "It is," says Farley, "the corruption of elemental passions and the resulting contagion of the personal and social spheres that provide a total view of human evil and its redemptive possibilities."
Book Synopsis An Unamendable Constitution? by : Richard Albert
Download or read book An Unamendable Constitution? written by Richard Albert and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-09-03 with total page 389 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the subject of constitutional unamendability from comparative, doctrinal, empirical, historical, political and theoretical perspectives. It explores and evaluates the legitimacy of unamendability in the various forms that exist in constitutional democracies. Modern constitutionalism has given rise to a paradox: can a constitutional amendment be unconstitutional? Today it is normatively contested but descriptively undeniable that a constitutional amendment—one that respects the formal procedures of textual alteration laid down in the constitutional text—may be invalidated for violating either a written or unwritten constitutional norm. This phenomenon of an unconstitutional constitutional amendment traces its political foundations to France and the United States, its doctrinal origins to Germany, and it has migrated in some form to all corners of the democratic world. One can trace this paradox to the concept of constitutional unamendability. Constitutional unamendability can be understood as a formally entrenched provision(s) or an informally entrenched norm that prohibits an alteration or violation of that provision or norm. An unamendable constitutional provision is impervious to formal amendment, even with supermajority or even unanimous agreement from the political actors whose consent is required to alter the constitutional text. Whether or not it is enforced, and also by whom, this prohibition raises fundamental questions implicating sovereignty, legitimacy, democracy and the rule of law.
Book Synopsis Impossible God by : Hugh Rayment-Pickard
Download or read book Impossible God written by Hugh Rayment-Pickard and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-12-07 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Impossible God introduces Derrida's theology for a new generation interested in Derrida's writings and in the future of theology, and clarifies Derrida's theology for those already familiar with his writings. Derrida's theological concerns are now widely recognised but Impossible God shows how Derrida's theology takes its shape from his earliest writings on Edmund Husserl and from explorations into Husserl's unpublished manuscripts on time and theology. Rayment-Pickard argues that Derrida goes beyond both the nihilism of the 'death of God' and the denials of negative theology to affirm a theology of God's 'impossibility'. Derrida's 'impossible God' is not another God of the philosophers but a powerful deity capable of wakening us into faith, ethical responsibility and love. Showing how central theology has been to Derrida's philosophy since the beginning of his career, Impossible God presents an accessible study of a neglected area of Derrida's writing which students of philosophy and theology will find invaluable.
Book Synopsis The Shellman Story by : Henry A. Buchanan
Download or read book The Shellman Story written by Henry A. Buchanan and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2007-02-16 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: THE SHELLMAN STORY is the story of a Pastor and his Church locked in battle over the racial issue in the early fifties of the twentieth century because the Supreme Court had said black children could go to school with white children in Shellman Georgia, and the Pastor of the Shellman Baptist Church said it was the right thing to do. But the people of that little Church in that little town said they would not allow their Pastor to say such a thing because it was contradictory to their hallowed traditions. The Pastor insisted on preaching this new teaching, so they fired him, after the hanging in effigy did not convince him that he was wrong about what he believed was right. But there was a Remnant of the Church who stood by their Pastor and the Remnant is the true Glory of the Church. Here in THE SHELLMAN STORY Henry Buchanan has told how it all happened fifty years ago. But because it seemed so strange to the people who heard him and saw it all happen in Shellman Georgia, Buchanan has included some tales from his boyhood which show how the boy who grew up in a racially stratified home and community became the man would challenge the Southern Tradition of his own people, and be hanged in effigy for it, and in the end be fired by the Church he served as God's spokesman in a time of great crisis and turmoil because he believed he was Right.

Book Synopsis The Liturgical Cosmos: The World through the Lens of the Liturgy by : David Fagerberg
Download or read book The Liturgical Cosmos: The World through the Lens of the Liturgy written by David Fagerberg and published by Emmaus Academic. This book was released on 2023-01-26 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Church’s liturgy is an appropriate object for academic study, but it is first and foremost the object of the faithful’s participation in divine worship, the site of humanity’s deification by the Trinity. The liturgy is thus not just something that we can look at, but, like a window, it is also something we can look from, viewing other matters of Christian doctrine and practice—indeed, the entire created world—through the lens of the liturgy. In this collection of essays representing nearly two decades of writing and reflecting on liturgical theology, David Fagerberg sets out to explore the liturgical cosmos, attending to how the lex orandi of the liturgy illuminates and shapes the lex credendi of the Church’s faith and the lex vivendi of the Christian moral life. Addressing such topics as asceticism, beauty, Scripture, spirituality, sacrifice, and social renewal, The Liturgical Cosmos directs our gaze to the ways in which the abundant life that Christ came to offer—a life communicated sacramentally and celebrated cultically—is a life lived daily, and liturgically, as the Holy Spirit refreshes our world and conforms us to Christ, the image of the Father.
