Book excerpt: No presente trabalho são relatados os resultados de um experimento realizado na Baixada Fluminense, com o objetivo de verificar o comportamento de cinco variedades de arroz ("Amarelão", "De Abril", "Honduras", "7-V-8" e "H-12-V-13") diante das seguintes épocas de início da prática irrigatoria: logo depois da germinação e a 10, 20, 30 e 40 dias após a emergência das: plantas. 0 sistema de irrigação empregado foi o de inundação ou submersão do solo, na modalidade contínua ou permanente. Nos primeiros quatro anos de trabalho (60/1, 61/2, 62/3, 63/4), as épocas estudadas apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significativas colocando-se em primeiro lugar o grupo formado pelas 1.a, 3.a . 4.' épocas e, em segundo, as restantes, não diferindo entre si as pertencentes a cada grupo. Nos dois últimos anos (64/5 e 65/6), não foram registradas diferenças significativas entre os tratamentos. A interação variedades x tratamentos mostrou-se significativa, indicando que a variedade "Amarelão" forneceu produções médias mais elevadas quando a prática irrigatoria teve início aos 20 e 30 dias depois da germinação; e a variedade "Honduras- comportou-se melhor diante do 3.0 tratamento. já a variedade "De Abril" forneceu rendimentos mais altos frente ao 1.' e 4.' tratamentos. Finalmente, as últimas variedades ("H-12-V-13" e "7-V-8") apresentaram melhores produções, em números absolutos, quando a irrigação foi iniciada, somente, 40 dias após a germinação. Entre variedades, a análise estatística revelou também diferenças altamente significativas. Em primeiro lugar colocou-se a ""De Abril", com produção média, nos 4 anos iniciais, de 5.816 kg/ha, e nos dois últimos, de 3.855 kg/ha. As demais apresentaram rendimentos bastante inferiores. Os dois primeiros tratamentos propiciaram um eficiente controle sobre as ervas daninhas, dispensando mesmo as habituais capinas. Nos outros três, tal não aconteceu, e o referido trato cultural se fez: necessário pelo menos uma vez. Nestes últimos, contudo, a economia de água decorrente do menor consumo hídrico e dos demais dispêndios indispensáveis à mobilização da água, foi suficiente para superar a vantagem, aparentemente atribuída aos dois primeiros, pela redução de despesas com as capinas.

Book excerpt: O objetivo principal do presente trabalho foi determinar através de testes de laboratório e ensaio de campo, a importância do peso das sementes de arroz (Oryza sativa L.). Utilizaram-se sementes das variedades Batatas, Pratão Precoce, IAC-120, IAC-435 e IAC-1246. Pela revisão de literatura, ficou evidente a importância do peso e tamanho das sementes em diversas espécies, com relação à germinação, vigor e produção. Entre os trabalhos consultados poucos se referiam ao arroz, sendo a maioria deles de origem estrangeira, justificando dessa forma a realização deste trabalho. Este foi conduzido no Laboratório de Sementes e em Terreno Irrigado do Departamento de Agricultura e Horticultura da Escola Superior de Agricultura "Luiz de Queiroz" , no período de novembro de 1973 a janeiro de 1975. As sementes das cinco variedades, foram separadas em quatro classes de peso específico em uma Mesa Gravitacional, tendo-se em seguida submetido cada uma das quatro classes à ação de ventilação controlada através de um assoprador. permitindo a separação de cada classe em três frações com pesos diferentes. isto ê. leve. média e pesada. Posteriormente. reuniram-se frações leves das quatro classes. para se formar uma única classe de sementes leves de cada variedade. procedendo-se da mesma forma com as frações médias e pesadas. As sementes leves. médias e pesadas. assim obtidas. foram armazenadas em câmara seca e laboratório e utilizadas nos experimentos de laboratório e de campo. Os testes de germinação e vigor (avaliado pelo método do Envelhecimento Rápido) foram efetuados em três épocas (março/abril. julho e dezembro de 1974). utilizando-se como delineamento experimental um fatorial 3 x 2, cujas variáveis foram três pesos e dois ambientes de conservação das sementes. com quatro repetições. O ensaio de campo foi realizado no período de outubro de 1974 a março de 1975 utilizando-se o mesmo delineamento experimental. porém, com três repetições. As análises dos dados e a interpretação dos resultados obtidos permitiram que se chegassem às seguintes conclusões: a) nas cinco variedades estudadas. a germinação e o vigor foram afetados pelo peso das sementes; b) as sementes pesadas e médias apresentaram uma maior porcentagem de germinação e também se mostraram mais vigorosas que as sementes leves em todas as variedades estudadas; c) este efeito foi menos intenso no caso das sementes das variedades Batatais e IAC-1246; d) o ambiente de câmara seca mostrou-se superior ao de laboratório para a conservação das sementes; e) o ensaio de campo não revelou nenhum efeito do peso das sementes sobre a emergência, numero de colmos férteis e produção de grãos; f) as sementes das variedades Batatais, IAC-120 e IAC-435 armazenadas em câmara seca deram origem a uma maior emergência de plântulas no campo, com maior numero de colmos.

Foram relacionados os dados referentes ao regime de chuvas, temperatura e radiação solar e os estádios fenológicos dos cultivares, afetando diferentes parâmetros ded esenvolvimento das plantas, a produção de grãos e a biometria dos mesmos.

The Seine basin is inhabited by circa 17 million people and is impacted by intensive agricultural practices and industrial activities. These pressures have gradually affected its hydrological, chemical and ecological functioning, leading to a maximum chemical degradation between the 1960s and the 1990s. Over the last three decades, while major water-quality improvements have been observed, new issues (e.g. endocrine disruptors, microplastics) have also emerged. The state of the Seine River network, from the headwaters to estuary, is increasingly controlled by the balance between pressures and social responses. This socio-ecosystem provides a unique example of the functioning of a territory under heavy anthropogenic pressure during the Anthropocene era. The achievements made were possible due to the long-term PIREN Seine research program, established in 1989 and today part of the French socio-ecological research network “Zones Ateliers”, itself part of the international Long-term Socio-economic and Ecological Research Network (LTSER). Written by experts in the field, the book provides an introduction to the water budget and the territorial metabolism of the Seine basin, and studies the trajectories and impact of various pollutants in the Seine River.
