This book was released on 2013 with total page 18 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. This paper analyzes the role played by the Local Development Agencies to restructure mature tourist destinations of the Spanish Mediterranean coastline. It is performed analyzing some actions undertaken by the Calpe's Local Development Agency through the prism of the Michael Porter's theory of competitive advantage. The main conclusion is that Local Development Agencies must play an active role in restructuring of mature tourist destinations based on innovation and public participation. This will require a broader view of local economic development than led to its creation by local institutions.

Book Synopsis Estructura, economía y política turística by : Jesús Rivas García
Download or read book Estructura, economía y política turística written by Jesús Rivas García and published by Septem Ediciones. This book was released on 2014-10-01 with total page 321 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
Book Synopsis Tourism and Natural Protected Areas by : M. F. Schmitz
Download or read book Tourism and Natural Protected Areas written by M. F. Schmitz and published by WIT Press. This book was released on 2013-10-16 with total page 153 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yellowstone National Park spans the states of Montana, Wyoming and Idaho in the USA. It is famous worldwide. Since their creation in 1872, most 'protected natural areas' have been considered as probably the greatest achievement of nature conservation. Many countries have such spaces within their territories and many visitors, native or foreign, use some of their free time to get to know them. In this sense these spaces undertake to conserve nature and educate society and give us a kind of cultural tourism that has grown considerably in recent decades. Cultural tourism today specifically includes, along with cities, museums, monuments and rural traditions, the aim of 'getting to know nature'. Protected natural areas are ideal for this. The tourism industry has realised this and so the value of the landscape and natural resources is becoming increasingly recognised. This is a welcome development and represents a challenge for tourism management, for environmental education and for dissemination of nature and conservation. This volume of the series Tourism Today considers the evolving relationship between tourism and protected natural areas.
Book Synopsis Accessible Tourism by : Dimitrios Buhalis
Download or read book Accessible Tourism written by Dimitrios Buhalis and published by Channel View Publications. This book was released on 2011 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Inclusion, disability, an ageing population and tourism are increasingly important areas of study due to their implications for both tourism demand and supply. This book therefore sets out to explore and document the current theoretical approaches, foundations and issues in the study of accessible tourism. In drawing together the contributions to this volume the editors have applied broader social constructionist approaches to understanding the accessible tourism phenomena. Accessible tourism, as with any area of academic study is an evolving field of academic research and industry practice. As with other areas of tourism, the field is multidisciplinary, and is influenced by various disciplines including geography, disability studies, economics, public policy, psychology and marketing. "As one would expect from two scholars at the height of their academic abilities, Dimitrios Buhalis and Simon Darcy have delivered a timely and much needed contribution to the under-served area of accessible tourism. Harnessing the best conceptual developments on the topic, Accessible Tourism is a scholarly yet hugely readable collection and readily communicates the various contributors' passion for and command of their subject. This collection is a must have text for anyone engaged in the theory, practice and policy of accessible tourism and will be essential reading on undergraduate and postgraduate courses across a range of disciplines and fields. I cannot speak highly enough of this endeavour and I'm sure it will take accessible tourism and universal design debates into the mainstream of academic enquiry and industry practice." Book Synopsis Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development by : Amedeo Fossati
Download or read book Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development written by Amedeo Fossati and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 259 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many countries tourism is an industry of great economic significance; it is seen as a main instrument for regional development, as it stimulates new economic activities. Tourism may have a positive economic impact on the balance of payments, on employment, on gross income and production, but it may also have negative effects, particularly on the environment. Questions arise as to whether it is possible to keep on developing tourism in a certain area without negative or irreversible influences on the environment. Tourism and Sustainable Economic Development provides a theoretical framework for these problems, as well as practical illustrations on the following topics: the conditions under which specialization in tourism is not harmful for economic growth; the trade-offs, if any, between tourism development and economic growth; the need for government intervention and the various policy options and instruments available to policy makers. The book comprises two parts. The first part presents general views on tourism and sustainable economic development, and some opinions on the relationship between tourism and the environment. Some of the basic concepts implicit in sustainability are examined in relation to regional development, urban tourism, art cities, and rural tourism. The second part of the book concentrates on strategies and policy instruments. The purpose is to concisely define and bring together some policies which appear to be necessary, and whose implementation is required if we are to reconcile tourism development with the protection and conservation of the environment. Some analytical tools for policy making with regard to tourism and the environment are developed. As will become clear, there are many gaps in our knowledge that need to be filled if we are to be successful in controlling tourism in a way that puts this important industry onto a sustainable development path.

This book invites member states to promote full participation in community life by ensuring access to all areas of society, including the built environment, transport, products and goods, information, public service, education, employment and health care and implement universal design as a strategy to ensure equal and democratic rights in society for all individuals, regardless of age, abilities or cultural background, including persons with disabilities.--Publisher's description.
