Book excerpt: CETTE THESE PORTE SUR LES APPROCHES CINETIQUES POUR LES LOIS DE CONSERVATION SCALAIRES MULTIDIMENSIONNELLES. ON APPLIQUE LA METHODE DE TRANSPORT-ECROULEMENT DE Y. BRENIER, (AUSSI T. MIYAKAWA ET Y. GIGA), ET D'UNE DEUXIEME METHODE CINETIQUE FORMULEE PAR LE MODELE DE B. PERTHAME ET E. TADMOR. DEJA DES RESULTATS DE CONVERGENCE ONT ETE OBTENUS PAR CES AUTEURS. ICI. ON CALCULE AVEC EXACTITUDE L'ERREUR DE CONVERGENCE ENTRE LA SOLUTION ENTROPIQUE DE LA LOI CONSERVATIVE ET LA SOLUTION APPROCHEE FOURNIE PAR CHAQUE MODELE CINETIQUE. POUR SE FAIRE, ON UTILISE LA METHODE ENTROPIQUE DE DE S. N. KRUZKOV ET N. N. KUZNETSOV. CETTE TECHNIQUE SE TROUVE AINSI GENERALISEE AUX DEUX METHODES CINETIQUES. L'ERREUR DE CONVERGENCE OBTENUE EST EN T POUR LA PREMIERE METHODE DE TRANSPORT-ECROULEMENT (OU T REPRESENTE LE PAS DE TEMPS LE LONG DE CHAQUE PHASE DE TRANSPORT), ET ELLE EST DE ( ETANT LA DISTANCE MOYENNE ENTRE DEUX COLLISIONS DE PARTICULES) POUR CE QUI EST DU MODELE DE PERTHAME-TADMOR. L'ESTIMATION D'ERREUR, GLOBALE EN TEMPS, EST OBTENUE DANS L'ESPACE L#1(R#N#X) ; CE QUI EST OPTIMAL, COMPTE TENU DE L'UTILISATION DE LA METHODE DE KUZNETSOV. LA DEUXIEME PARTIE DE CETTE THESE CONCERNE LES CONDITIONS AUX BORDS POUR LES LOIS DE CONSERVATION SCALAIRES MULTIDIMENSIONNELLES DANS LE DEMI-ESPACE, A PARTIR D'UN MODELE CINETIQUE DE PERTHAME-TADMOR. ON MONTRE D'ABORD QUE CE MODELE EST BIEN POSE DANS L'ESPACE L#(0,T ; L#1(R#+ X R#N#-#1 X R#V)), DES ESTIMATIONS BV, ET UNE INEGALITE D'ENTROPIE APPROCHEE. SOUS UNE HYPOTHESE SUPPLEMENTAIRE, ON OBTIENT DES CONDITIONS AUX BORDS POUR LA SOLUTION ENTROPIQUE. SOUS CETTE MEME HYPOTHESE ET DANS LE CAS D'UNE DONNEE MAXWELLIENNE, L'ENSEMBLE DES CONDITIONS AUX BORD ADMISSIBLES EST INCLU DANS L'ENSEMBLE DES CONDITIONS DE BORD DE C. BARDOS, A. Y. LEROUX, ET J. C. NEDELEC OBTENU A PARTIR DE PROFILS VISQUEX. POURTANT LES DEUX PROBLEMES DE CAUCHY AVEC CONDITIONS AU BORD SONT EQUIVALENTS.

This book was released on 2011-11-19 with total page 955 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Semidefinite and conic optimization is a major and thriving research area within the optimization community. Although semidefinite optimization has been studied (under different names) since at least the 1940s, its importance grew immensely during the 1990s after polynomial-time interior-point methods for linear optimization were extended to solve semidefinite optimization problems. Since the beginning of the 21st century, not only has research into semidefinite and conic optimization continued unabated, but also a fruitful interaction has developed with algebraic geometry through the close connections between semidefinite matrices and polynomial optimization. This has brought about important new results and led to an even higher level of research activity. This Handbook on Semidefinite, Conic and Polynomial Optimization provides the reader with a snapshot of the state-of-the-art in the growing and mutually enriching areas of semidefinite optimization, conic optimization, and polynomial optimization. It contains a compendium of the recent research activity that has taken place in these thrilling areas, and will appeal to doctoral students, young graduates, and experienced researchers alike. The Handbook’s thirty-one chapters are organized into four parts: Theory, covering significant theoretical developments as well as the interactions between conic optimization and polynomial optimization; Algorithms, documenting the directions of current algorithmic development; Software, providing an overview of the state-of-the-art; Applications, dealing with the application areas where semidefinite and conic optimization has made a significant impact in recent years.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive and pedagogical account of the various methods used in the quantum theory of finite systems, including molecular, atomic, nuclear, and particle phenomena. Covering both background material and advanced topics and including nearly 200 problems, Quantum Theory of Finite Systems has been designed to serve primarily as a text and will also prove useful as a reference in research. The first of the book's four parts introduces the basic mathematical apparatus: second quantization, canonical transformations, Wick theorems and the resulting diagram expansions, and oscillator models. The second part presents mean field approximations and the recently developed path integral methods for the quantization of collective modes. Part three develops perturbation theory in terms of both time-dependent Feynman diagrams and time-independent Goldstone diagrams. A fourth part discusses variational methods based on correlated wavefunctions, including spin correlations. The approximation schemes are formulated for fermions and bosons at eigher zero or non-zero temperature. Although the formalism developed applies to both finite and infinite systems, the book stresses those aspects of the theory that are specific to the description of finite systems. Thus special attention is given to mean field approximations, the ensuing broken symmetries, and the associated collective motions such as rotations. Conversely, some specific features of systems with infinite numbers of degrees of freedom (such as the thermodynamic limit, critical phenomena, and the elimination of ultraviolet divergencies) are deliberately omitted. Jean-Paul Blaizot and Georges Ripka are associated with the Centre d'Etudes Nucleaires de Saclay.
